1. Yes the word the counts as a word so those books would be 2 word titles. 2. I would think it could count as person or place because Tiffany is also a name but check with Cait. 3. Nightmare is a noun but the others are fine. 4. Yes homecoming would be fine.

Tracy Cosgrove (mum24children) | 30 comments Could I read The Ressurectionist as a thing for the noun challenge? Is a ressurectionist a thing?

message 605: by Tani (new)

Tani | 108 comments Hi, Cynthia. I'm wondering if Bear Daughter by Judith Berman would count toward the Native American Heritage task. It's fantasy, but based very strongly on Native American mythology, and with characters who appear to be Native Americans (although this isn't explicitly stated). I'm torn because I'm not sure how much influence the fantasy element has and how much is actually based on the Native American mythology, and where you want the line to be on this one.

Heather | 384 comments For the "watch a movie/read a book" task, would New Moon work if I didn't claim the points until after the movie comes out in Nov. and I get to go see it?

Heather in KS

message 607: by Heather (new)

Heather | 384 comments Donna Jo, I have a question for you. I want to use Stephen King/Joe Hill for the author relationship task. I have The Journals of Eleanor Druse My Investigation of the Kingdom Hospital Incident in my TBR pile and it's been there FOREVER! Would it count as authored by Stephen King? He is listed on Goodreads as the author, but I thought I would see your opinion on this before I added it to my challenge list. Thanks!

hey this conversation sounds familar LOL

we did this a while ago on another thread, according to dictionary.com there is no singular form so adding S we get

res⋅ur⋅rec⋅tion⋅ist  /ˌrɛzəˈrɛkʃənɪst/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [rez-uh-rek-shuh-nist:] Show IPA
Use Resurrectionists in a Sentence
See web results for Resurrectionists
See images of Resurrectionists
–noun 1. a person who brings something to life or view again.
2. a believer in resurrection.
3. Also called resurrection man. a person who exhumes and steals dead bodies, esp. for dissection; body snatcher.

Hey — If anyone is still trying to figure out what they're going to watch/read, I just had one approved by Candace yesterday: Just Like Heaven (2005) and the book it was based on, If Only It Were True by Marc Levy (2000)

Literally Jen (vampsita) For "Terrifying Titles", may I use "Soulless"?

Was it ever officially determined if "Hunger Games" could be used for science fiction or alternative history? I want to use the sequel somewhere in this challenge, possibly for one of those two tasks.

Could I use "The Last Dickens" for CAIT'S TASK? Or would it have needed to be "Charles Dickens" rather than just Dickens?

Soulless is fine.

Hunger Games is fine for Science Fiction but not Alternative History as it takes place in the future and is therefore not history.

Dickens would be a last name so that is fine.

message 620: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) Thanks, Cynthia! I've already started on "Soulless" so that is excellent news!

I can't wait to read "Catching Fire"!

I have a review due for "The Last Dickens" for luxuryreading.com, so that is also perfect timing.

message 621: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) Cynthia, for the adoption task, would it be ok to use one of the books from the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay? Dexter Morgan was adopted. The story doesn't focus on adoption, but more on Dexter's internal struggle with his inhuman desires. However, his adopted father had a huge impact on how Dexter deals with his need to kill.

message 627: by Literally (new)

Literally Jen (vampsita) I'm sure it does. I'll try and find a page quoting it when I read it. The TV series constantly mentions he was adopted. It's been awhile since I read the first book, but it's the same there as well.

Just a warning though --- I've found this site to be VERY addictive. :-) I now have even MORE books on my TBR shelf than before I joined, and I am haunting used book stores more than ever before. I'm looking for books that I want, and books that other members have put on their 'Wish List' on the site so I can get more credits for my account.

Hi Kathryn: 1 credit = one free book from the website. (Audiobooks cost 2 credits)

I'm happy to talk about this more if you'd like. You can send a note directly to me. I think this is a great website.

Hey Just Like Heaven is a great choice: a fun movie (total chick flick w/ great views of San Francisco).

DJ--I even own the DVD. Still, either Marie Antoinette or The Solist is fine by me. So many choices...

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 260 comments Task 5.9 (coming of age or senior citizen main character) says novel, but would a memoir work? I'd like to use An Open Book: Coming of Age in the Heartland.

If not, would The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks count as a senior citizen main character?

Barbara - (hi mom!) you can read a cookbook, or a do-it-yourself book. Maybe you could check out a book on what to do when you are retired? or how to kayak? or something like that? Or a computer program manual?

There is a whole thread dedicated to help for Diane's task. Lots of great books were mentioned there. It may spark more ideas for you. It's labelled 'Diane's Task' in the TASK HELP folder.

Here's the link:

I was going to suggest a cookbook too. Also (and you might have to get this ok'd by Diane), maybe
1001 Books for Every Mood A Bibliophile's Guide to Unwinding, Misbehaving, Forgiving, Celebrating, Commiserating or Book Lust Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason. I think they would count, since they're designed to help you expand your reading horizons.

Im not sure if anyone asked this yet, but can I read Man in the Dark by Paul Auster for my alternative history book? At some point, the main character wakes up in a world where civil war has broken out in the US after the Supreme Court decision after the 2000 election.

This book would be fine and it fact it gives you 2 options (assuming your talking about using task option 2 not the audio option) - you could either watch/play soccer because there are soccer players or watch/play tennis as they play tennis at least I gather as much from the Amazon description.
