Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments What was the last movie to make you cry or what movies make you cry?

I rarely cry at movies however, these never fail to turn on the waterworks:

*minor spoilers*

A Walk to Remember- last 30 mins basically
Homeward Bound- Sassy in the river, the finale
Anne of Green Gables- puff sleeves scene, and "I love my little girl. I'm so proud of my little girl"
Toy Story 3 - nuff said
St. Vincent- choke up at the kid's speech
Cabaret- got choked up when Sally breaks down over her father's rejection. Amazing acting from Liza, she really moved me here. And of course, the final number, "Cabaret". Just the power of her vocals and talent made me tear up.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Last movie I remember crying at was A Single Man starring Colin Firth.

It's a wonderful romantic tearjerker and really opened my eyes about the validity of homosexual relationships.

Hi Rebecca

Just moved to the right general folder !

Well watched Hotel For Dogs, I cried, loved the film, although I know corny, child films, but I love a happy ending.

But I cry through most films, happy or sad endings, my wife stays dry eyed !

message 4: by Karin (new)

Karin Corneau (steveburtonfan29) | 11 comments Hmm...the more appropriate question for me is what movie DOESN'T make me cry?? But, most recently I watched THE HOLIDAY. One of my favorite Christmas movies, and I definitely blubbered a few happy tears. Been watching a lot of action movies lately though, which definitely don't make me cry :)

message 5: by Samuel (new)

Samuel | 263 comments I suppose it's not the last film that's made me tear up, but the ending of On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the few spy films which gets me every time. Seeing James Bond, government assassin, a man who has gambled against death and the odds, and cheated them every time to save the world, go into flat out denial at what he's seeing and then beginning to sob as he finally realizes what has happened to Teressa Bond, that's what always gets me when I watch that film.

message 6: by Samuel (new)

Samuel | 263 comments Most recently, I'd say it was "Curtain" starring David Suchet. Damn, that was a bloody accurate adaptation of perhaps my favorite Agatha Christie novel. Only this time, unlike in the book, we get to see Poitrot kick the bucket in all its heartbreaking detail. That moment, when he's trying to beg God for forgiveness as his medical condition goes in for the kill was gut-wrenching.

I agree, Samuel, it was very moving. I think I've watched almost every episode of Poirot, though not in order. Apparently the current Agatha Christie airing now on the BBC has gone down a storm. I'm looking forward to watching it.

I see. I recently saw the trailer for "And then there were none". Looks very good. Will need to see it.

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments Awesome answers, guys! Keep them coming! :) I'll have to check out some of these movies.

Although I didn't exactly cry, The final exchange between Katharine Hepburn and her father in "The Philadelphia Story" made me melt.

Also, how could I forget "No One is Alone" from "Into the Woods"?

Marilee (hatchling) | 37 comments I am not a sentimental person, but every time I watch Gladiator, I bawl at the end. And yes, I've watched in many times.

message 11: by David (new)

David Freas (quillracer) | 558 comments It didn't make us cry, per se, but the opening of Up had my whole family teary-eyed because the couple were dead ringers for my parents.

Darkslyric | 117 comments Just went to the theater last week and watched Miracle on 34th Street for the first time. I cried at the end. Very good movie, sorry I waited so long to view it.

It's A Wonderful Life !

and as above

the original Miracle on 34th Street

Cried like mad with the classic

The Yearling with Gregory Peck...

Ghost !

Great ending make me cry

Sad endings make me cry

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) Star Wars

I cried because I spent so much money to see a weak rehash of the original. Not much force here.

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments Yes! The original Miracle on 34th Street. Especially when Kris Kringle sings with the little Dutch girl. Beautiful! :)

Leah Labbe | 104 comments Armageddon - when the character played by Bruce Willis dies.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - when Dumbledore dies - even though I knew it was coming.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow - Dobby
Where the Red Fern Grows - they made us watch this in school. I had to leave and go to the bathroom because I was crying so hard.
American Sniper

and Pretty much any movie where an animal dies

message 19: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments Leah, we watched Where the Red Fern Grows in school as well and everybody was sobbing too. I agree, any movie with an animal is an automatic heartbreaker.

In high school, we watched Schindler's List and the teacher had to pass out tissues to everyone.

message 21: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh The last scene of Fast 7, it's a tribute to Paul Walker who died before finishing the movie,(His brother helped in some scenes later) for some reason it made me remember the death of my cousin.

Aymen Ben cheikh yeah Perri , I loved the fact that they didn't kill the character, at some point in the movie I thought they would, but they chose to keep him alive, keeping his memory alive.

message 25: by Juliana (new)

Juliana | 333 comments Marley and Me I just cry buckets with this film

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments LOL I just looked at this when it popped up in my feed again and realized it looked like I said I hadn't cried at a movie since 1985!!! Hahah I'm dying. I meant I just watched this childhood oboe again this week for the first time in years and cried, this week! Hahah anyway, I'm sure nobody else will think that's as funny as I did!

@Aymen I've literally been avoiding Fast 7 for that reason. I literally sob so I try avoiding things that I know for sure will upset me but always get to them eventually. Sorry that you lost your cousin. I lost mine four years ago too and she was like my sister since we were both only children. One never gets over it, only through it. :):

I couldn't possibly list what I cry at. I can cry at a tv commercial. Ridiculous!!

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I'm with you there, Janet! Two days ago it was a miscalculation performance that moved me. LOL I looked at my spouse, laughing through tears and was like how do you put up with me. It's funny the things I don't cry at and the things I do, actually.

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments Another I would like to add is, pretty much any Robin Williams film. The ending of Mrs. Doubtfire and Aladdin mostly. But also, Patch Adams. But that's always made me tear up lol

message 30: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) West Side Story always makes me cry.

message 31: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments That's a good one too!

I'm a little ashamed to admit I welled up at the new "Annie". Mostly at the final Tomorrow reprise. That song just means so much to me as I grew up with the original film and that was my very first live theatre experience.

message 32: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Justice Loftis (debbiejusticeloftis) I am not into romance movies or books, but many years ago I saw "Bridges of Madison County". I guess I should mention this is the only movie I have seen in a theater in the pass 35 years. It just touched my heart. I am sad when other people are sad.

message 33: by Erica (new)

Erica | -3 comments I watched BBC Masterpiece Bleak House over the holidays. It is based on the Charles Dickens Saga of the same name. its a tearjerker.

message 34: by Aymen (new)

message 38: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Was it good, Jean? It looks like it must be. I think I'd like to see that movie Carol with Cate Blanchett. Has anyone seen that yet? I'd also like to see the movie version of Room.

message 39: by Jean (last edited Jan 03, 2016 06:28PM) (new)

Jean | 2384 comments Yes,Kirsten based on a real person, and while not 100% accurate, of course, I thought that it was sensitively done. 4 of 5 stars

Carol hasn't come here yet.

message 40: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
I'm interested in Room, don't know whether to do book or movie.

message 41: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments Janet,
The book is awesome! Very well written and clever. I haven't seen the movie but plan on it as soon as it's on DVD or On Demand. :)

Patricia | 1266 comments American Sniper - bawled and sobbed in the theater.

message 43: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (autumnmemory80) Inside Out. I openly wept. It was not a pretty cry either, an ugly cry.

message 44: by pics&books (new)

pics&books (cori3books) | 403 comments St. Vincent - we watched it on Christmas night and everyone was crying. My husband "had someting in his eye" - hahaha! I loved this movie - if you haven't seen it, give it go. Melissa McCarthy and Bill Murray are both excellent!

message 45: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Amiss (rebeccaamiss) | 476 comments St. Vincent is awesome!!! I can't get enough of that movie! :)

Last night, I watched Liza With a Z and yet again, got teary when she sang Cabaret. She just owns that song. I always get chills. Such a wonderful performer.

I also watched The Sterile Cuckoo the other night, and while I didn't cry, I really felt for Liza's character in that movie. She really knows how to pull at your heartstrings.

Jean | 2384 comments Well, J., your guy Sly won a Golden Globe last night.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

The last movie that made me cry was "The Big Short" oddly enough.
It was during the time when they showed the tent cities of people who lost their homes. The few men who made millions because of it weren't celebrating at all. Quite the opposite, sickened by the dirty money and corruption.

message 49: by Rory (new)

Rory (thefauxpoe) | 21 comments The Green Mile, great movie.

Olivia "So many books--so little time."" | 51 comments The last movie I recall that made me cry was Notebook. It's based on a book but it's so sad I don't want to read the book.
