Here's a place to keep in touch between reads, or about topics that diverge from the book's discussion.

I hope everyone is enjoying a lovely day today!

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Good idea, Jeanette. RA does tend to get me off topic somehow. Talked to someone today who hasn't seen North and South. Converted her on the spot by showing her the kissing scene.

Had a lovely day, church, great lunch and now basket ball, The Spurs are playing.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

You showed her the end? lol

message 4: by Judith (new)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Yep, just the kissing clip from You Tube...it won't spoil it for her, but had to get her interested!! Didn't tell her it was the end, just said it was the best kiss in the history of kisses.:)

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

It would certainly get me interested.

message 6: by SarahC (new)

SarahC (sarahcarmack) | 9 comments Hi, Jeannette and all. I hope you had a nice Easter weekend.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Sarah! We had a lovely weekend. I hope you and your family did, too.

Today is my baby girl's 20th birthday. We shopped all morning and then had lunch. She's all grown up!

I've never seen North & South either, and now I know the ending...

message 9: by HJ (new)

HJ | 300 comments PS I'm just messing with you. It's true that I've never seen North & South, but I don't know who kisses whom at the end, do I?

message 10: by SarahC (new)

SarahC (sarahcarmack) | 9 comments Jeannette, that is so nice. I know you enjoyed your lunch with your daughter. Tell her Many Happy Returns of the Day for me.

The mom kissing her baby! ;)

Thanks, Sarah! I will. :) We need to chat via PM one of these days, and catch up.

Hannah (hannahr) | 405 comments Aww, Jeannette, this must be a bittersweet day for you - your baby turning 20. I know you must be thinking: where did the time go?

Happy Birthday to Lea and best wishes to her mom (and dad) who did such a fine job raising her! Enjoy the day with your wonderful girl :D

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you, Hannah! She's not a teen anymore. She started her day at the foot doctor; she had to have part of an infected toenail removed. (8am appointment!) She's napping right now. We had fun shopping. I'll pass your wishes, and compliments along.

message 15: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahr) | 405 comments Yikes - what a way to start off her 20's! Hope her toe heals well.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

The doctors says that this will fix it! ;)

Happiest birthday to your baby girl! 20 felt like SUCH a big deal, didn't it? :) Hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, Ashley! I made her favorite dessert for dinner, and I'm ready to go to sleep. She's playing a video game right now that she got for her birthday.

Me too! I can't resist a good kissing scene. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in The Lake House, anyone? (You can find this one on YouTube too--search for the dance scene.)

message 20: by Cryssa (new)

Cryssa | 22 comments Love the Lake House! It's a great twisty story and that scene where she loses all hope at the mailbox, just before he's there, still gives me chills.

Are you kidding?!? Just the ads for it gave me nightmares! I know, I'm a big baby.

message 22: by Judith (new)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Happy belated bd to your daughter. Oh to be twenty again!

You tube has tons of kissing final scenes from Jane Austen films...IMO none of them as good as the North and South one. I attribute this to RA's understated acting talent and the great chemistry between the two actors. I saw an interview where she says they had to do it a bunch of times, and that he is a great kisser. In another interview RA says that scene still gives him tingles when he sees it. Oh my.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, my! I think you're right; it's the best of it's kind from the scenes that come to mind.

Thanks for the bday greetings! We're having a party on Sunday. :)

LOL. Really, The Lake House isn't that scary or creepy. I loved how it played with the notions of time (the magic mailbox that lets the MCs communicate with each other two years apart in time) and the issues they have when they try to find each other in real life. That plot device doesn't hold up under really close scrutiny so you just have to kind of roll with it, but it's a very romantic story. :)

Well, I just judged the movie by its ad, didn't I? Maybe I'll have to give it a try, because I do love Sandra Bullock!

Hannah (hannahr) | 405 comments Karlyne,
Tadiana is right, TLH isn't scary at all. It's very bittersweet and romantic and personally it's the only time I've ever liked Keanu Reeves in a movie - lol!

Do give it a try and let us know what you think if it.

message 27: by Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽, Moderator (new)

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1090 comments I have to say I really liked Keanu in "Speed." He looked very hot in his buzz cut.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure!! *most excellent*

message 29: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 1107 comments My daughter laughed at me when I said that I thought The Lake House looked scary. She said, "Mom, it's a love story." Corrected on all sides stands I!

haha! Well, the person who really needs to be "corrected" isn't you, but the editor who put the movie trailer together that gave you nightmares when you saw it!

message 33: by Judith (new)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments That's so funny! I loved The Lake House. Keanu has a very interesting face. I don't find him conventionally handsome, but he is very appealing, sometimes he looks tough, other times vulnerable. I loved him in Matrix as Neo and in A Walk in the Clouds.

Good news on the carpet front...full refund, and we ordered the new carpet which should be here in a week or so. What a relief! House is still a mess, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! I can't imagine having all my stuff in the wrong rooms for so many weeks.

message 35: by Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽, Moderator (new)

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1090 comments Judith, we should have a virtual party for you when you finally get the right carpet in. :D

message 43: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 1107 comments Wow! That's weird! I have a friend whose email account is constantly getting hacked, and they sound rather like that- except that they invariably ask for money and not books.

Tadiana wrote: "Well, he might be harmless. I'm just not certain."

He PM'd me the same message he sent you, Tadiana (about where he works, sorry if he disturbed me, etc.) and later sent a friend request. Seems like he just wants to friend people and work on his English. Probably OK to just ignore.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

It looks like he convinced you that he's okay?

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1090 comments Well, I'll give him a chance, until he asks for money or something. I figure being a GR friend doesn't hurt me since (at least for now) my page is still public.
