Literary Fiction by People of Color discussion

As the year comes to a close, what was your favorite book of fiction by an author of color read in 2015? For me it was The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin.

My favorite was Under the Udala Trees byChinelo Okparanta.

My favorite read this year by an author of color was Americanah. My favorite read this year that infinitesimally edged out Americanah was The Poisonwood Bible not written by a person of color, but about the Congo. Both novels were so good!! My goal for 2016 is to read more fiction by (and/or about) people of color.

It's not new to 2015, but Adé: A Love Story, Rebecca Walker.

Looking at my list of books read in 2015 there are not that many people of color on it :(

I guess my favorite read in 2015 by a POC author would be REBIRTHS OF TAO by Wesley Chu. (The book also came out in 2015.)

My favorite read of 2015 was probably WORLD OF TROUBLE by Ben Winters. Closely followed by THE PROVIDENCE OF FIRE by Brian Staveley and NEMESIS GAMES by James Corey.

My favorite fiction read of the year was The Buried Giant. Delicious Foods was up in my top 3 or 4 as well. Both excellent books that I have recommended left and right.

I am in the library queue for Under the Udala Trees. I hope to get it by mid-January.

Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson

The best book and the one that affected me the most this year!

I really enjoyed The Turner House by Angela Flourney.

Me too. It exceeded my expectations.

I've answered this question in a couple of different groups I belong to and each time it always comes up a different book in my head...this time though it's Oreo by Fran Ross. It's been a great reading year for me.

In nonfiction, probably the book that affected me the most was On The Run: Fugitive Life in an American City by Alice Goffman. I highly recommend it.

You will be glad to know that Book 2 in the series 0 The Obelisk Gate will be released Aug. 16, 2016
