The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
First book in the Raven Cycle Series

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

Brandy | 2535 comments I just started, little strange so far. on the plus side it will fit into the creature challenge nicely under Ghosts or Psychics.

I just finished this one, it is strange but it gets better and more interesting. Another first in a series that makes me want to read the next one.

So I read this one last year some time and I didn't really care for it.. I'll have to try again.

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 15 comments Picked it up from the library yesterday and have just started it, it's an ok idea so far.

message 9: by Nicola (new)

Nicola I'm still waiting for my copy to come in at the library. Sounds like it has mixed reviews!

Brandy | 2535 comments I think it is funny that Sara rated it 1 star and Brie 5 stars. So far I am somewhere in the middle. I am on Chapter 24. so I am doing the audio version, I have a harder time following when there are a lot of characters, and this book has a lot of characters. I need a name/flow chart to keep track of who is who with all the aunts and raven boys.

I think that's why I gave it such a low rating.. I had the audio version as well. Maybe I need to try reading it instead of listening this time around.

I found that as the book went on I was able to keep track better but yes allll the characters get introduced fast and at once so I had a bit of trouble in the beginning. I liked it because it was left open ended and those are my favorite, keep me wanting more.. (view spoiler)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 15 comments I'm just over halfway through & things are starting to look exciting... I'm glad I know this is a series else I'd be really worried about the speed of this book ;)

ETA: I am now finished - it got so intriguing that I stayed on my sofa & just kept reading. However I have been left with questions that now mean I need to pick up the next book from the library asap!

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 15 comments Next in the series not available until 26th Jan :(

message 15: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments I have a couple hours left in this book. Hopefully it will be slow at work so I can finish.

But holy crap I didn't see this coming (view spoiler)

I'm not sure what you mean by that Hayley? It looks like we should be good. I think the 4th book comes out in April so I have the 2nd, 3rd and 4th book scheduled for Feb, March and April for us.

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 15 comments Sorry, was referring to my post directly above that one... as I said I was going to get the next one from the library asap... and asap is 26th Jan.

Brandy | 2535 comments I hate being a responsible adult! I was hoping to be able to finish this book up yesterday while at work but I got busy. dang it!

Right?! I didn't see that coming either, well played.

message 20: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments DONE! Well if someone would rate this 2 stars we could have the whole cycle here. Sara 1, me 3, Hayley 4 and Brie 5 stars.

So I liked the book enough to continue, maybe I will do whyspersync so that I can read and listen.

message 21: by Nicola (last edited Jan 28, 2016 06:09AM) (new)

Nicola The people that have this checked out at the library here are hoarding on to it! I'm next in line so hopefully I'll get a copy soon.

The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater

Second book in the Raven Cycle Series

If you could steal things from dreams, what would you take?

Ronan Lynch has secrets. Some he keeps from others. Some he keeps from himself.

One secret: Ronan can bring things out of his dreams.

And sometimes he's not the only one who wants those things.

Ronan is one of the raven boys—a group of friends, practically brothers, searching for a dead king named Glendower, who they think is hidden somewhere in the hills by their elite private school, Aglionby Academy. The path to Glendower has long lived as an undercurrent beneath town. But now, like Ronan's secrets, it is beginning to rise to the surface—changing everything in its wake.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

3rd book in Raven Cycle Series

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

Should we stop reading this series? It appears no one has read any for a while now.

message 25: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments I am good either way. I think I will eventually finish, especially with the other goal about finishing series that I have started but I think this one went inactive.
