Hmm interesting Peggy, I just read your review. I'm even more interested to read it now. There are mixed reviews, rated highly by some in YLTO and my other friends have rated it 5 stars. Generally I find the reviews of our members have good taste, and I really enjoy books our group has read. I can't wait!

I agree Sarah. I also tend to really enjoy the books that other YLTO members have rated highly. I bought a book the other day that I might not have picked up if it wasn't for the high ratings of YLTO-members.

Based on the ratings it seems I'm the odd one out with regard to the All Souls trilogy. You will probably enjoy it a lot, like most people :)

What ebook did you buy? There are some really good books our group reads =D

I also rated it 3 stars and didn't go on to read the next book, even though I bought it assuming I would love the first one. My friend reviews on this are split, a lot of 1 and 2 stars as well as 4 and 5 stars. I'm curious to see what others in this group think of it.

Sarah - yes, I did read all three books. All of them a number of times for different reasons. I blasted through the first two and then had to wait for the third for so long. I started on the third and stopped because I thought I missed something in the second. I re-read the ending of the second and decided to re-read both again before I started on the third again.

The first book remains my favorite, followed by the second. I know many people who had issues with the first book, but I loved the characters and the concept of the story and the story line. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the third book. The first half was good but I was disappointed by the conclusion.

Sarah, thanks again for the reminder! I had totally forgotten. Will pick up from the library next week. Then to juggle books I have to read, so I can fit this one in. Some are just going to have to be returned unread!

@ Cherie - Oh haha, many times reads them then. I'm glad you enjoyed them, I've just read a trilogy of 'Daughter of Smoke and Bone', and I feel like that too, the first 2 books were really good. But the last seemed too long and a bit disappointing with the ending.

I started it last night; I read 4 chapters and so far, I like her writing.

I read 5 chapters and I agree I like her writing too, very descriptive =]

I'm read 9 chapters now. Seems interesting so far, I like (view spoiler)[that you get to see Matthew's side of things too. It does seem like a charming vampire, I like the sound of 'The Old Lodge' I'd love to go there and do yoga, sounds awesome =]

I'm very intrigued about this manuscript and that Diana doesn't use her magic yet she emits power, I worry that she is in more danger than she realises, not just because of the vampire, but all the supernatural beings wishing to get their hands on the manuscript. (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to chapter 5. I'm really enjoying her writing too so descriptive.

Also the world is interesting with the daemons witches and vampires. I hope to learn more about Matthew soon and the reason he wants the manuscript. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you guys .. But I really hate it that even though (view spoiler)[ evrybody told her how important the manuscript is, and yet she's still acting like its just another work of someone and its not that important! Come on, just use your magic for ones for a good reason! (hide spoiler)]

I enjoyed this book. I had a little bit of trouble getting through the second one, but did finish it. I haven't tried the third yet. Hope you enjoy it!

Even so, I like the double point of view, I guess I will be a bit more useful later.

I will read it until tomorrow, then I'll read for the toppler next week and I still have to read Rebecca for the end of the month, so I won't have much time to finish it, I'll finish it in March I guess. But now that I'm in the story, I don't want to put it down ;)

I'm up to Chapter 15 now and I'm starting to get a little iffy, I like the descriptiveness of things BUT I'm starting to feel there is perhaps too much build up including perhaps some unnecesary things. I'm finding it rather slow going and still got hundreds of pages to go, so I'm hoping it picks up soon but I'm worried it won't.

(view spoiler)[I started reading this with an adult book in mind, but some of it feels Young Adult to me, like the feelings parts. I agree Ariane, I don't like that Matthew admits his feelings quickly.

Finished.. I gave it 3 stars
It wasn't too bad but it wasn't really great. There were parts of the magic elements I liked but other parts I really didn't like much of at all.

My proper review is here: (view spoiler)[I was expecting to really enjoy this book, I love magical books, anything to do with vampires and witches and I'm usually bound to like it. But I'm half and half with this book. I didn't really like the main character Diana, she was supposed to be a professor but she seemed more like someone in her 20s (although at some points in the book I felt like this was a YA book). Matthew was typical of a vampire and his character and the times he lived through interested me, but I wasn't so keen on how he so quickly acknowledged his feelings about Diana.

The story line seemed rushed in the sense that the story panned out over the course of 4-5 weeks and they managed to move around a lot, fall in love, (view spoiler) and Diana's magic is in abundance all of a sudden.

I mainly like the other characters of the book such as Ysabeau and Marthe, I wanted to read more about Hamish, and I'm intrigued about Diana's mother. I think I may continue on with the books as I'm interested in the time-travel, but I'm not a big fan of soooo much detail. I generally like the picture painted of course, but this seemed a bit excessive, it felt like too much building up to not really get very far. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm wondering what Gillian is gonna do now after threatening Diana. The pictures that she received were probably from Gillian. And what is Knox capable of?

I'm really enjoying the descriptions of Matthew's work and how the creatures DNA shows their differences. Also how they are evolving. I wonder what Diana's bloodwork will show. What's up with the blue fire and will she be able to control it?

I'm also enjoying the talk of alchemy and it's history. (hide spoiler)]

I don't know what chapter I'm on (I'm at work right now), but I agree that the writing is good, although the plot seems a bit too predictable for me. In spite of that, I'm fairly reeled in. The descriptions of some things seems a bit too much for me, but that's ok... it hasn't slowed down too much for me.

I'm only getting a few chapters read every day, but I'm still hanging in there. Does seem slow at times, but even though I predicted it right from the start, I'm intrigued by the budding relationship between Matthew and Diana.

I'm thinking (view spoiler)[ the DNA test results show that Diana is actually an incarnation of the goddess Diana of the Hunt. Also, I found the concern that all supernatural creatures are becoming extinct an interesting plot point. (hide spoiler)]

I read people's comments about Diana's age. I remember reading she started college when she was 16... don't know how old she is now, but she did start college young.

I'm getting a few chapters read every day its slow going but I'm still enjoying it. I'm at 65% don't know the chapter right now.

I finished and actually enjoyed it quite a bit; enough to have ordered the next 2 from my library. It was a bit predictable. I've read other books with a similar plot, but there was enough about this one that was unique to keep me interested.

I finally finished and really enjoyed it. I loved the all research and the descriptive writing. The glimpses of Matthew's family's past were very interesting. I've just got the next book on audio since the ebook was so expensive. I'll probably read it next month.

That is what I really liked about the book, too, Delitealex. I liked the 2nd book and much of the 3rd, but was let down at the end.

I had to put the book down for a while, but sure will get back to it by today, and I hope to finish it soon ..
