I have only read the first Odd Thomas and liked it. I have so many series I need to get back to. If only I could stop trying new authors. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, lol.

I do that a lot, start a series, then pick up something new.

I just finished Odd Thomas and I already owned the third book, so I figured I'd pick up book 2. Then, when I looked, book 4 was only 6.95, so I thought I might as well. Then, I noticed that they offer a bundle, Odd Interlude, plus books 5 & 6, all for 1 credit, so I had to get that too. I ended up with the whole series except for the last book.

Lisa (ylisa7) | 208 comments I have done really well. I downloaded two books that I have been waiting for to go on sale:
Trail of Broken Wings
and
The Perfect Son

And then…I stopped at two thrift stores today. One had 25 cent books which I thought was good but the other one had 10 cent books which was better. For $2.20 I got:

The Time Traveler's Wife
Seabiscuit: An American Legend
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
Finding Laura Buggs
Eat, Pray, Love
One Summer
The Last Time They Met
Spider Bones
The Poisonwood Bible
The Blind Side
Caught
Cannery Row
and
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind(this is for a friend)

Hey Janice....sorry! I just saw your reply! I am an oil field paramedic and was out working on an oil rig deep in the woods in northern Canada. The job got cut short, so I am back now and have a couple of days of local work now! :)

Things aren't good up here with the patch right now, are they? I have a friend who ran an oil field paramedic outfit. A little over a year ago, she got rid of all but a couple of trucks and just rented them out. I think she may have sold them all now though.

Jacynthe Hinderyckx | 3 comments Hahahaha....my bad!! I totally forgot that you are here in GP! Yeah...things are crazy bad. Husband was laid off start of Dec and didn't even work in oil. Now he is in Fort Mac. I have been crazy slow (this time last year I had worked 3 months with only a few days off....now I am lucky if I get 1 week a month in total....and that's with a major pay cut. I am working 2 provinces and working on a third....but the licensing fees/travel costs are prohibitive to say the least. I am sorry for your friend....a lot of good people and companies are suffering bad.

Hi Booked! Welcome to YLTO. :)

message 169: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I bought 3 books in the recent "first in series" sale:

The Sword of Shannara
Leviathan Wakes
The Last Kingdom

Like I need more series to start!

One I can justify. I have book 2 of the Original Shannara Trilogy , The Elfstones of Shannara, and I've been keeping my eye open for book 1.

message 170: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19192 comments I currently have 8 in my cart for that sale and I'm trying to decide which to get. Four of them I definitely want and 4 I'm having difficulty passing up at $5 each.

message 171: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I can relate, Kristie. I had 4 in my cart and narrowed it down to 3, but I keep thinking I should go back and check what I might be missing. I think I need two 12-step programs. One for buying books, and the other for buying series books.

message 172: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19192 comments I think I would have to join that program with you!

message 173: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19192 comments Ok, so I ended up with 6, more than I need, but I started with 13 that interested me in my cart to go through.

Child 44
A Drink Before the War
The Yard
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
Angelfall
NYPD Red

Apparently, I am in a mystery/thriller mood.

message 174: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I really enjoyed The Yard. I got Angelfall a few months ago but haven't had listened to it yet.

message 175: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19192 comments I almost didn't get Child 44, but my GR friends rated it very highly. I have no idea when I'll get to it. I have a hard time passing up sales because I always think there is eventually going to be a theme or challenge where it will come in handy.

message 176: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really liked The Yard and Child 44 so some good choices there Kristie. I think you'll enjoy Leviathan Wakes, Janice. I bought The Last Kingdom and Angelfall the other day too and I still have the original Shannara trilogy on my bookshelf unread.

I hope it's good. It sounded a bit like the Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon.

message 188: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11274 comments I got it too, Janice. Thank you. Sound good.
One more series. :)

Caecilia Saori @Lisa // very nice! I have never read anything by him, but heard only good things about his works :-)

message 192: by Caecilia (last edited Feb 15, 2016 03:59AM) (new)

Caecilia Saori yay! my latest book order has arrived.

This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz

was one of the books ordered. I am so looking forward to this one. Have seen Diaz books on bookstagram many times and have heard only good things about his works.

curious me has sneaked into the beginning of the book & it appears to be one easy-to-jump-in kind of novel. so well-written, crisp and refreshing. starts off as if it's going to be one of the best ever books on relationships (except for gone girl, of course) ... let's see ;-)

in particular this one, has been recommended to me many times. perhaps, once I have done "the road" and other must-reads first :-P I might come back to it, too. - argh! our days really should be extended to 30 hours ;-) with enough time for reading after work.

message 195: by Lisa (last edited Feb 15, 2016 04:47AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments 30 hour days still would not be enough ;) There are just too many good books out there.

message 198: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I bought:

The Ballroom The Ballroom by Anna Hope

The Shadow of the Wind The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (I already have a copy but I couldn't resist this 10th anniversary edition. It's so pretty and shiny!)

message 199: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I like it Lisa!

message 200: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I know what you mean about Shadow of the Wind, Lisa. I read a library copy but had to get my hands on my own after reading it. Good find! :)
