Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments Anyone doing the GoodReads challenge? What are your reading goals for this new year?

message 2: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Radley | 735 comments 200 though I will most likely go over :P

message 3: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 670 comments I set my goal at 100, I'm hoping to get a bit more writing done this year but I'm very excited to read a bunch of new books too!

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments In 2015, I didn't do a good job of keeping track of my reads, but I really enjoyed the freedom of reading without having a challenge number to keep track of. I think I'm going to do the same thing this year. I'm going to set it at like 10 for tracking purposes, but I just want to read for the sake of reading and when I feel like without feeling pressured to keep up with the challenge.

I also want to read more books I own. I'm getting married this year and I have to move into my fiance's small condo, which means I need to do some purging. :(

congratulations for wedding bells this year :) but commiserations in having to purge your books, I know how that feels I had to that last year and by god was it tough :P but get yourself a kindle and then you wont have to worry about throwing books away or putting books on shelves that means trying to squeeze a book into non existent space and its easy to take on trains or on holiday :)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments Thanks, Zoe! I actually have a Nook, but I still like to hoard books. Getting reading done in any format is an addiction for me. :) I've gotten better (banned myself from library book sales) and already made a "get rid of" pile. We do plan on buying some more shelving for his condo, so it shouldn't be too bad but I don't want to carry more books than necessary.

I set my goal for 125 books this year. I joined a challenge group to try something new. My twins spend a lot of time at various appointments which means mom spends a lot of time reading in waiting rooms.

Lariela | 167 comments Set my goal at 100 books. Planning on reading a couple series on the TBR list.

I find that if I set the goal too high, then I avoid reading longer books so I will set it at 50 and then what happens.

message 10: by Erica (new)

Erica | 416 comments Jolene...that's the exact same as me. I usually set me reading at a reasonable amount that I know is definitely achievable and will allow for a few chunksters. It's particularly important this year as I want to read more of the Outlander series and Ken Follett's Century trilogy (I think that's what it's called)

message 11: by Erica (new)

Erica | 416 comments ...so I've allowed I've set me challenge at 50 books. I read 60 this year.

message 12: by NayNay (new)

NayNay Last year I set my goal to 400 books, and just made it, I had to read a handful of novella's or I would have not reached my target.

This year I set it for 352....I usually read a book a day (some times two) but this year my hubby and I are doing a lot of travelling, sooooo I thought I better lower it for 2016

message 13: by Cheryl A (new)

Cheryl A | 1059 comments In 2015, I had set my goal at 250, but had to adjust it down to make it. In 2016, I'm setting it at 250 again, but will set aside those books that aren't really holding my interest. I forced myself through The Girl on the Train, spending a whole week on a book I didn't like, along with a number of others. Not this year!

message 14: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 260 comments Last year, I went way past my goal of 100 so this year I'm aiming for 150.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I read 54 of 90 books this year so I am going to keep my goal of 90 books the same.

message 16: by Cecilia (new)

Cecilia (cecilia-reads) I plan to read 52 books this year! I can't wait to try!

message 17: by Laura K (new)

Laura K | -32 comments For 2016, my official GR goal is 40, and I'm good with that. :-)
Ideally, I like to go for 52 books (theoretically a book a week). In recent years I've not attained that mark, so I've lowered it to 40 and end up reading a few more than that.

message 18: by Viji (new)

Viji | 229 comments I set a goal of 140 books last year but I found that I have read 182 books. This was mainly due to HF's Seasonal Challenge and HFU challenge 2015 B.A. and M.A. I am yet to complete the HFU 2015 Ph.D. Challenge. So, I set the goal as 140 this year also!

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris | 555 comments Going to up my goals by 2 this year for a total of 58

message 20: by Linda (new)

Linda Bridges (lindajoyb) | 849 comments I'm going for 120. I'm in another group that has a challenge to read books over 500 pages so don't know if this goal is reachable or not, but I'm going to try.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I am doing the goodreads challenge.

message 22: by Erica (new)

Erica | 416 comments Haha Eric I lowered my goal last year top for the exact same reason...this year I want to try and get to both remaining books in the trilogy.

message 23: by Carol (new)

Carol Bell (carolbell) Wow! Y'all are voracious readers! Last year was the first year I actually tracked my books and I did pretty well surpassing my measly goal of 12. This year I decided to double my goal to 24. I'm in a real life book club, so that and this group should help me meet my goal easily.

message 24: by Jackballoon (new)

Jackballoon (platogleon) | 5478 comments Last years goal of 100 was met! (109). I'll try fr 110 this year. What fun!
