The Academy - part II

You've been teaching at the Novel Academy for what feels like eons (see The Academy quest here ). While it's a great honour you've become a bit bored. The Principal Mage just announced that there's an opening in the exchange program and you're eager to jump on the opportunity and teach at the Witches and Honourable Banshees university for the next semester. To get the job you have to prove that you're a Goodreads expert and know your way around without a map.
Complete the requirements to apply successfully for the new teaching job. You do not have to complete the requirements in order.
Note: Books need to be read after announcement of the quest. Books used in these tasks are still available to be applied towards other quests. These are participation tasks.

Requirements:
1 Visit the Goodreads blog: News & Interviews & check out at least 3 of their articles. (link to the articles you read & report on the most interesting one in The Local Tavern)
2 Pick out and read a book based on News & Interviews recommendation (list the book and link to the article that features it)
3 Check out the books that won Goodreads Choice Awards & read a book that has either won or been nominated for this award (any year will do)
4 Check out New released books listed on Goodreads: Click on Browse>New Releases > "By authors" and/or "By Genre". Pick at least one book and add it to your "Want to read" GR list. List the book.
5 Find the answer to this question on Goodreads: "What do I do if I can't find a book using search on Goodreads?". (Either link to the answer or "copy & paste".)
6 Find your GR Reading stats and put down how many pages you read last year (hint: search under "My books").
7 Go through your "Want to Read" list and delete all the books you're no longer interested in reading. List the number of remaining books.
8 Go through your "Read" list and shelve at least ten books that have no tag other than "read" (if all your books are already shelved, you deserve a "task complete").
9 Set up a new shelf on "My books" page, either for unfinished/abandoned books or any other genre/tag that you've been missing. List the name of your new shelf. (if your shelving system is perfect as it is, you deserve a "task complete")
10 Go to Recommendations, select recommendation by shelf or by genre and read at least one book recommended to you and mark at least one book as "not interested". List those books.
11 Go to Listopia and vote for your favourite books on at least three lists (link to the lists).
12 Check out GR Popular Quotes and "like" at least three of them. Copy & paste your favourite one and post it to the Theatre thread.
13 Ask your friends and the Goodreads community what you should read next. Use a Goodreads feature to do that.
14 List how many GR groups you are a member of, which one is your favourite and how many comments have you made in that group so far.
15 Find at least three GR Groups that are interested in your favourite genre or author or reading activity (e.g. challenges), link to them (you don't have to join them).
16 Check out your GR Profile, Account & Emails settings and update them if needed.

The Queen calls you in and since it is the Queen you of course drop everything and rush to the castle. When you arrive, she pulls you aside and confesses her current disaster. "I'm set to go on another date with Prince Archer and I have nothing to wear!" Alarmed at the emotional distress of the Queen, you assure her that you'll work on the problem right away. As you start to back away, she pins you with a glare. "And I've heard about what those swindlers did to that Emperor who wanted new clothes, so don't think you'll be getting away with that scam." You stammer a response and then flee to investigate new fabrics and ribbons.

You look back at the poster, then at the furry thing, then at the poster. Finally you head off in search of a ladder, wondering the whole time who would name a dog "Kitty".Form a ladder by overlapping the end of one book with the beginning of the next book. At least 3 letters must overlap or your ladder will be too weak to rescue Kitty. Use 3-5 books to complete your ladder. Count back through your adventures. 10 sewer rat deaths (since the start) will put this man in his place. You also need to commemorate this most prestigious occasion. Reading 1 book with the letters R, A, T in the title will get you your trophy and earn you an extra 2 boasting experience. (Example: Orphan Train train has t, r, a). The Tavern is looking to expand its culinary offerings and asks you for help procuring the latest delicacy: Smoked Sewer Rat. You cringe a little at the name but agree to help deciding that they probably know more about gastronomic delights than you do. You head out for awhile then bring back 4 cuts of sewer rat, a pile of logs and some seasonings. Smoked Meat with Reduction is on the menu.... You ponder the meaning behind "meat".
Kill 4 sewer rats or greater sewer rats, these rats must be fresh kills to not poison the tavern patrons with spoiled meat. Read 1 book from the list of banned books for burning. Read 1 book with a seasoning or herb in the title. Completing the delicacy will net you 6 XP.

Robin Hood has lost his hood! You never thought you'd see the day, but some bandits on the road got the best of him and that place way down low got frozen over. You can barely stand to see him looking so sad and miserable. A local tailor offers to help but needs some leather to form into a new hat.
Provide 4 bat wings for leather and read a book with 6 or less characters in the title to provide a thin string of thread for sewing them all together. Receive 5 XP for re-hooding Mr. Robin.

A Fairy Odd Path

Faeries travel through thinning in the veil called in-between. Three small fairies have gone missing in the in-between. Find them before they're eaten by the Gothere Monster.Read 3 books that are in-between series numbers. i.e. #6.5 or #2.1 in a series. May be part of a collection of stories but the whole collection must be over the 100 page minimum (a collection will only count towards one of the numbers). Fairies are forgetful but always thankful and after you remind them they provide you a Heal Potion and 2 XP for the rescue.

The tavern has heard rumours of a food critic in the area. The owners want to create a new specialty. They've heard of something called a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich being served over in Wintershaven. They ask you to check it out and bring back the parts to start making them.
Read a book where the author or a character has the initials PB. Read a book that starts with the letter J (indefinite article may be ignored). Then spell out the word BREAD using spell-it-out rules. Finally assemble it using a knife by reading a book from a series that starts with I. Earn 12 XP when the sandwich is complete.

Novel Kingdom is dangerously close to entering a time of deflation. Queen Skye has been advised that she wants a nice healthy rate of inflation around 2% to maintain price stability and maximum knight employment. She is worried that if the kingdom falls into deflation everyone will hold onto their gold since it will be worth more tomorrow than it is today. She's even heard that there is novel hoarding going on! Help Queen Skye inflate the kingdom!

On the edge of town there is a strange house. Sometimes you wander past and ponder if some wizard drank too much mead and accidentally cast a growing spell on an old boot. The lady who lives inside is frantic because her cats have gone missing. She would like you to find all 7 of her missing cats.
To find a cat, find a mention of a cat in a book and quote the sentence where the cat is mentioned. Cats are individual creatures and there can only be one found per book. (Find Items Potion works for this quest.) Receive 5 XP and 1 Heal Potion for finding all 7 cats.

New Gang in Town

There's a new gang in town and they're moving in on your territory! Never mind that you aren't actually in a gang for them to move in on but it's the principle of the matter! Do whatever you need to so you can win back your town.
Check the last 9 books you read before May 1st, 2015. If there have been more male authors then your target is the new female gang. If there has been more female authors then your target is the new male gang.
Read new to you authors of the appropriate gender to chip away at the rival gang. Gender should be the real life gender of the author and not their pen name (unless unable to find).
Reduce the rival gang by 3 to gain 4 XP.
Reduce the rival gang by 2 more to gain 4 additional XP.
Eliminate the rival gang by reducing 3 more to gain 4 additional XP and 1 Heal Potion.

The local librarian (a powerful political position in Novel Kingdom) is walking around looking frazzled in the tavern. You gently take the book out of his hands and notice it's a dictionary. You ask him what the problem is. "I just can't find the word I'm looking for! Property of something or other!" You calm him down and assure him that you'll help find the word he's looking for.
Read a book where the plot, a main character, or other large aspect of the book reflects the words definition.
• Ubiety - the quality or state of being in a place
• Perpetuity - the state or quality of lasting forever
• Palatability - the property of being acceptable to the mouth
• Acceptability - the quality or state of meeting one's needs adequately
• Isotropic - having a physical property that has the same value when measured in different directions

Novel Kingdom is having some problems with geographical dissenters. The rogue group is calling themselves Novelarian Flat Page Society. They believe that all of Novel Kingdom exists on a single sheet of paper in a single book in the Great Reader's library. The head of the geography department is beside himself. Help him map out the world and prove that Novel Kingdom actually rests on the cover of a book laying on the Great Reader's coffee table.
Receive 12 XP and 1 Major Heal Potion after helping the geography department.
• Read a book set in country where you live or come from.
• Read a book set in a foreign country.

Tournament of Alka

The Queen is sending a contingent of riders to the The Alka Tournament of Sinj. You bravely step forward when the Queen asks for volunteers and proclaim in a loud voice that you are the best horse rider and alka stabber in all of Novel Kingdom. The Queen quickly agrees with you and sends you off to represent the Kingdom.
To compete in the tournament you need to have a horse. If you do not have one you may read a book with a horse on the cover to borrow one.
You also need a 3m long spear (read a book that's 300-399 pages or a book that has something spear-like on the cover) and alka (read a book where the author's initials (all listed) can be found in ALKA)
To spear alka roll a dice and read a book that is that number in a series.
For competing in the tournament receive 5 XP and 1 Heal Potion.

The local fool is wandering around town speaking in riddles... or at least you think they're riddles. He keeps talking about wanting a cup of joe, but you can't figure out how Joe (the 300 pound farmer down the road) could fit in a cup. Then he told you to eighty-six the moldy bread and you told him who would want eighty six pieces of moldy bread... Then he started talking about having a field day with the new rat stew recipe in the tavern but he wasn't even in the field that day. You really must help him regain his sanity so he doesn't keep spouting off gibberish.
Read 5 books that contain different idioms to help the fool (whoever he or she may be) learn to speak correctly. Earn 7 XP and 1 Minor Heal potion for achieving enlightenment.

A Nap is Always a Good Idea

You've been questing for months, in fact it might be almost a whole year now. You're tired. The rats are cutting into your Sunday rest day. The goblins are gobbling up your weeknights. The bats are battering your psyche. Even the rocks are causing your day to get a bit rocky. You need a nap. But first, the perfect nap spot!
First you find 2 trees near each other with a book with at least 2 trees on the cover.
Then construct a rope ladder with 5 goblin bones and 12 rat tails to bind them together.
Finally, weave together 10 bat wings to form the perfect hammock.
Afterwards take a wonderful nap for a full heal and 10 XP.

5,000 Leagues Under the Sea

You've never been one to try to outdo everyone else. No one really needs to go a whole 20,000 leagues under the sea when 5,000 is plenty. You're quite sure after traveling 5,000 leagues that there's really nothing more that would surprise you down there. You've seen all the fish, sunken ships, sharks and mermaids that you could ever care to see in the sea. Just make sure to take some pictures so you can have a few rounds bought for you at the Tavern after you've returned.
Travel 5,000 leagues and take pictures! Reserve a wonderful spot at the tavern for all your stories.
Leagues may be travelled by reading books. To determine the amount of leagues travelled by a single book, round down to the nearest 100 pages, then calculate 2 to the power of the number of hundreds of pages. (Hint: use the xy button on the calculator)
Examples:
512 page book -> 5 hundred pages -> 2^5 = 32 leagues
1072 page book -> 10 hundred pages -> 2^10 = 1024 leagues
Reward: The tavern owner was so impressed with the number of additional customers your stories brought in he has provided you 2 Greater Heal potions for your effort. You also gain 5 XP for your travels.

Read a book first published in each of the following years: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. Each year completed will earn 1 XP. Complete all years to earn 1 Time Walking Potion.

Nick the Necromancer finally has his huge pile of bones. He starts trying to cast spells but they keep fizzling. Trying again to avoid having an angry necromancer on the loose, you suggest that maybe his antique hour glass might be a few grains short of an accurate time piece. You offer to make him a brand new clock for timing his spells, even though you are starting to wonder at the wisdom of having a somewhat inept necromancer working magic in your town.
Read 12 books, each one initially published in a different month. (Example: January: Uninvited published Jan 2014). +1 XP for each book read. +1 Damage Potion for completing the clock and unleashing the necromancer on your town. (Bonus 2 XP if all the books are from the same year.) (Find Items Potion works for this quest.)

You're not entirely sure what he's talking about but you figure that with the condition he's in, he would accept anything resembling the right answer.

He bought me chrysanthemum instead of roses!" You venture over to Sir Quinn and inquire if you can help though you're unsure as to if you should also offer your sympathies.

An important step in any young knights life is his first horse. Actually, once you get a horse you don't take nearly as many steps. So maybe it's really that the beginning of the end of steps is acquiring a horse. No matter what, it's a good thing to do.
To acquire a horse you must have perseverance, persistence, perspicacity, performance, perfume and various other per related things.
Find all the items to receive your very first horse.
1) Gold to Buy Horse - Read a book with a mainly gold cover or one set in an era where gold is used as the main currency.
2) Riding Clothes - Read 3 books under 200 pages.
3) Horseshoes - Read a book with horses as a main part of the story or one set on a farm.
4) Horse Armor - Read a book over 600 pages.
5) Saddle - Read a book that has 2 d's in the title.
6) Sugar for Treats - Read a book that's sweet (chic lit, romance, cozy mystery, etc.)
7) Apples for Treats - Read a book with a mainly red cover or one featuring a teacher.
8) Carrots for Treats - Read a book where someone dangles a reward to get someone else to do something.
9) Hay for Feeding - Read a book with the title starting with the letter H.
10) Bribe for the Stable Master to allow you to pick your horse - Read a book where someone takes or gives a bribe or where the main character is a thief.
You may choose 1 of two horses. You may also name him as he is now your horse.
Horse 1 is a American Quarter Horse built for speed. He will speed up your common monster respawn time by 1 day (6 days instead of 7).
Horse 2 is a Baroque Horse built for attack. He will give you 1 extra attack to both your weapons.

You sit pondering this statement for awhile and conclude that that probably explains some of the gender ratio of the realm. Blinking a few times you clear your head and decide you should probably help maintain the ratio and charge in to help Lord Alex escape certain lunch.
Find the direction words north, south, east and west each in a book or book title (one per book). Lord Alex gladly pays you 10 Gold for helping him escape. He also promises to buy you a round at the local tavern but you're understandably wary after hearing about his last joke where he put the magic frog powder in Lady Tea's drink and turned her into a frog for a week.

After hard day hunt, you enter into the Tavern looking forward to some cool ale and maybe some nice stew you know that's simmering in the back. After all it was you who brought rat meat for it. You're sitting at your table, drinking ale and thinking about quests that are waiting for you tomorrow, when you hear sniffle behind you. You turn around trying to find where the sound came from, but only Lady Kelly is sitting in that direction. You're little scared to approach her, after all she's the Master here, but your kind heart can't say no to a damsel in distress. As you start approaching Kelly, you hear her muttering "They are gone. They are all gone. What am I supposed to do now?!" and she starts crying again. You sit beside her, offer her your not so clean handkerchief and ask her what's wrong. Through tears you find out that someone broke into her room and stole all her future quests.
"All future quests?! But how's that possible? There are no thieves in Novel Kingdom! I'll help you Lady Kelly. Don't worry, you'll have your quests back!?" you yell and storm out of Tavern to find a thief.

The local theatre offers an open practice session to allow Novelarians the chance to see free performances and the actors the chance to practice in front of a live audience. You saunter in to get out of the sweltering heat outside and start to eat your giant turkey leg and side of tomato. Lady Rachel is up on the stage facing a grubby little trained pet goblin when she trips over her skirt and falls backwards. The director yells at her, "You're supposed to kill the goblin! Not the other way around!" Both Lady Rachel and the goblin stare at the director. Seeing the opportunity to help, you jump up (spilling your turkey leg and tomato onto the floor) and announce that you know how to make a great goblin sword that can easily pretend to smite a pet goblin. Running out of the room you go and search for the materials.
Gather 3 goblin bones, then read a book with a grey cover to gather the metal, then forge the metal and goblin bones together with a book that has fire (exact word, though, may be part of a larger word) in the title or series. The director will gladly pay you 10 gold for setting the show back on track.

Wind is blowing in your feathers. You can see so far away and you are free to go where you want." You look again at those dots in the sky, not really thrilled with Zee's idea. You really prefer standing on firm ground. "Oh, and do you know what would be even better?!" Zee looks at you, eyes shining with excitement. "Just when you reach that perfect speed and perfect height, you stop. No flapping your wings or anything. Just let gravity do it's business. Oh it would be such great rush!" You smile at Sir Zee patronizingly and hoping she doesn't notice you turned little green at her great idea.

Is it time already? You won't believe what happened. At last moment I remembered I forgot to purchase something for dinner and went to the market just to figure out I forgot my key. Again! We can't get into the house!"

"Spit them out!" said the white horse. "But they are so tasty." "Spit them out!" All of the sudden, Lady Shanna's nose started turning purple. "What is happening to me?" yells Lady Shanna while continuing turning purple and starting to grow round. "I told you to spit them out. Everyone who eats them fresh ends up as blueberry and nobody knows why."

Lady Dani and you walk down the lane. Every now and then she stops and picks pretty stone for her collection. After a while you see old man coming towards you. "Hello there strangers! Oh, what pretty stones you have there my lady. I have something that will make your collection even prettier" and he pulls from beneath his cloak smallish stone with gold flecks on it. You are all excited (because it's gold!) but Lady Dani knows her stones and asks to look it closer (because everyone knows that those gold flecks are probably pyrite). She examines it closely and is pretty sure it is real gold. "Where did you find this stone?" "Not far from here. There is abandoned gold mine not many knows about. I could give you map for small price - all your pretty stones." Lady Dani doesn't really want to give her stones, but opportunity to find more gold is huge. She agrees and gives her stones to old man and gets map for them. Two of you follow directions on the map and soon come to big hole in the ground. Since Lady Dani is expert here, you agree that she should go down and explore while you keep guard. Lady Dani goes in and starts going down the many halls. Left. Right. Left. Right... Until she comes to the main chamber and sees gold vein in the wall. Lady Dani is very happy and turns around to go to you and share her news, but then she finds out that she's actually lost.

Find 2 books that have something that can bounce on the cover to make the sling.
Construct the slingshots by reading a book with a handyman or carpenter as a main character.

A small little boy named Arrow lives on the outskirts of town. He was a bright boy. Quick as an arrow was the description from all the townspeople. Though he grew up poor, he always had a smile for his neighbors and would stop and help whenever he could.
Sadly upon his 8th birthday, he was dared by a group of the local boys to climb the tallest tree at the end of Mulberry lane. He had made it halfway up when he heard a snap. The next thing he remembered was blinking in the harsh light of the local healers house.
The local healer has done all she can for Arrow. He is almost completely healed now and able to move on his own, but he has not been able to speak since the accident. His parents have asked for your help to assist in letting Arrow speak again.
Read 3 or more books. The first word of each of the books (main body of the text, including any prologue) should be put together to form a grammatically correct sentence. The sentence may be in any language, and the word may be translated directly from one language to another.
For helping young Arrow, his parents bestow unto you a magical arrow endowed with the power that you have restored to their son. This arrow can be used one time (ever) and will hit with damage equal to twice the amount of words (books, up to a maximum of 10 books) that you have provided to Arrow.

3) Gather Wood - Read a book mainly set out in the woods.
4) Gather Nails - Read a book with something pointy on the cover (knife, nail, stiletto, etc.)
5) Create Frame - Read a book where someone is framed for a crime.
6) Create Walls - Read a book where someone is closed off from the world either mentally or physically.
7) Add a Door - Read a book where someone moves houses.
8) Add Windows - Read a book with Glass, Window, Clear or See in the title.
9) Paint - Read a book where the cover is mainly (<70%) one color.
10) Garden - Read a book with flowers on the front.
Pick one of the following houses to add to your possession.

A sensible solution seems to be to install a kitchen in your house. You're not quite sure how to actually cook anything but some of the people over in the Queens kitchen seem a little dim so it can't be too hard.

Though you should take it with a grain of salt, his salt is especially fine and salty. He likes to taunt you that you're not a good enough chef for his salt and he really rubs salt in that wound. Prove to him that you're not below the salt and become the great chef you know you can be! Only to do that... you need some salt.

She tells you a sad story about the loss of her home to a terrorist uprising. You decide that you might be able to evict some of those squirrels and reclaim their nuts to add to your own sense of sanity.

Lady Sonia is in town to celebrate her birthday with Queen Skye. She brought along her beloved pet falcon named Beta Test. Beta left hunting this morning but never returned. Lady Sonia is beside herself with grief and asks for you to help return her falcon to her.
First you must track the falcon. You decide to follow the trail of mutilated, eaten mice. Spell out the word MOUSE using spell it out rules.
Then you must set a falcon trap. You need some netting and a lure. To make the netting read 3 books with a net on the cover or set at sea. To get the lure read a book about fishing or one with a rodent or bug on the cover.
Finally read a book with a bird on the cover to capture Lady Sonia's falcon.
Lady Sonia is so happy with the return of her falcon that she gifts you one of the falcons eyasses. Your baby falcon will return with 1 piece of mouse meat every week on Sunday.
To cook Mouse Meatballs: gather 1 mouse meat, grind, form into ball, sprinkle with salt. Bake 1 hour.

The boy sniffs and holds out his teddy bear with an arm ripped off. You decide that you can fix this particular problem. Rummaging around in your pocket, you find an egg that some lady handed you in the Tavern. Shrugging you smash the egg on the ground, grind up a goblin bone and spit in it. You smear the mixture on the bear and stick the arm back on. It instantly seals to the bear stronger than ever.
The boy gingerly takes the bear back and whispers "Thank you."
Mix: 1 Egg, 1 Goblin Bone and 1 Book with a main character whose first or last name starts with S.
Reward: 1 Book Glue. Glue 2 books together to make a bigger book with the combined total of pages.

Decorate the palace
More than anything the Queen wants a fabulously decorated main hall, with banners and lights and - of course - a beautiful tree!
Tree
First, find a tree, by spelling out SPRUCE (must use NEW books, read after you start the quest, to avoid premature needle-drops)
Next, wrestle it into a pot by spelling out POT
Finally, make sure it's nice and straight by reading a book with a tree on the cover
On completion of all three parts, you get 10 XP
Now the tree is positioned, it's time to decorate it and the hall! Go crazy here, finding books with things to hang from the tree or on the suits of armour and weapons around the hall.
Colour scheme:
you can use: up to 6 books with colour covers to set the colour theme. You get 1 XP for each book you use (to a maximum of 6 XP), You can choose to have as many different colours in your scheme as you like but for each different colour you use you LOSE a point. So, if you have 6 books with 6 different colours you will get a total of 7 XP; if you have 6 books all in the same colour you will get a total of 12 XP
- 1 colour = 6 XP
- 2 colours = 5XP
- 3 colours = 4 XP
- 4 colours = 3 XP
- 5 colours = 2 XP
- 6 colours = 1 XP
For the purposes of this, use TinEye, and the colour cover must be 60%. No debate over what TinEye says, however wrong you feel it to be!
Decorations:
In addition to books for the colour scheme, you can hang up to 10 items on your tree / around the hall, using items on the cover, 1 XP for each item hung (i.e. maximum 10 XP). Feel free to be creative, and to brag about your tasteful / gaudy decorations in the Tavern!

An interactive, immersive performance of the famous poem.

"not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse" - guests make sure no mice are stirring by poking rat bodies! You'll need to catch (kill) 4 sewer rats
"stockings were hung by the chimney with care" - let the guests hang up the stockings: read a book with a stocking (or sock) on the cover
"Mamma in her kerchief and I in my cap" - provide guests with hats to wear: read a book with a person wearing a hat/head covering on the cover
"eight tiny reindeer [...] he called them by name" - guests must match the antlers to the reindeer: provide name tags by spelling out one of the reindeer names (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen)
"a little round belly /That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly" - just in case they can't imagine it, guest can feel the quivvering of the jelly - read a book tagged Humor (at least 1 tag)
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" - the cheerful ending will have guests waving to "Santa" as the curtains close. In the absence of Santa you will have to press into service a Yeti (kill either Big Heart or Snowflake Heart)

Uncommon Monster: Snowflake Heart
A large silvery Yeti that only shows up during snowy holidays. It has 6 limbs and icy armour. In order to start fighting it you will need to throw a Phoenix Feather at it (uses a turn - it will attack you first). You can throw a Phoenix Feather as your attack, for 20 damage. (Population: 6)

- 8 ingredients in books of 201 - 499 pages
- 4 ingredients in books of 100 - 200 pages

Look!' and she pushes torn ad into your hands. You look down and see advertisement for troupe called 'Men in Tights' that are going to preform their version of Robin Hood. Looking at the image below the title you see that all actors are male. 'This should be interesting' you think remembering Robin Hood story. 'I know! And there is a prize! If you can answer the quiz question, you get to meet the actors behind the stage! Don't you think that would be great? But, I can't figure out the answer. I looked everywhere but I can't find what are the actors names.' She looks at you sadly and you decide you'll try to help her.
To figure out actors names you need to read 2 books written by male authors and two books where author uses only his/hers initials instead of full name. Lady Teresa will pay you 10 gold for backstage pass.

Still high from her great performance in Theater, Ser Rebecca strolls into the Tavern where she saw some strange man sitting. 'There she is! Star of the night. Please take a sit and we'll have a little chat. Actually I have little business proposal for you.' 'Um, business proposal?' 'Yes, I'm looking for unique talents and your performance was brilliant. If you say yes, you'd travel all over the Kingdom or even wider. I even heard Queen Skye would like private performance.' Ser Rebecca starts to think private performance! Traveling all over the world! No more monster that attack when you least expect... 'Where so I sign?' 'Not so fast, my knight. First I'd need to hear few more songs to be certain that you are talented and that your performance wasn't just beginners luck.' Ser Rebecca runs back to Theater to get her goblets and finds knights, that were before in the audience, around her cart spilling water and smashing her goblets. 'What is going on?' she asks you. 'Well, after your performance someone started selling mulled wine that was poisoned. Now they are afraid that everything here is tainted.' 'What am I going to do now?' asks Ser Rebecca as her dream of fame and fortune falls apart.
As we all know, you are very tenderhearted so you decide to help Ser Rebecca. Read 1 book where character is involved in music, 2 books with body of water on the cover and 1 book that has object in what you can keep/gather water on the cover. Lady Tea is out walking and sees a rabbit darting through the woods. Thinking it may be one of the magical egg laying bunnies she sets off in pursuit. The rabbit darts into a hobbit hole on the edge of town. Never one to turn down a hobbit hole, Lady Tea pursues the rabbit. As soon as she steps inside she falls down a deep hole. She sees a tiny door and a bottle named "DRINK ME". She shrugs and downs the unknown concoction then starts to shrink to a tiny size! Looking around she sees a piece of cake labelled "EAT ME." Growing wise, she pockets a piece of it and heads through the door. On the other side she munches on the cake and returns to her previous size.
After stumbling around for awhile she sees the rabbit sitting at a table with a tea party set out. Smiling to herself she sits down deciding that tea is much better than what else may lay in this crazy world. Lady Tea hopes that others will be told about where she's lost.

Making Pasteis de Nata is not an easy task. First you need to keep your hands cold for the puff pastry to be smooth and perfect. That means having a bucket of water with lots of ice nearby to keep dipping your hands in. Then is spending hours by a low fire stirring to get the perfect custard. Next comes the wait for them to bake, and the worst part is to avoid eating them while they are fresh from the oven. After conquering this mighty task, Lady Eni only needs some cinnamon sticks to ground and some icing sugar. Easier said than done since some mice had a late night party and now the icing sugar bag has a nice hole in it and is spilled on the floor. Also the cinnamon sticks are all chewed down. Oh no! Lady Cait has been hanging out around the tavern and is on a streak! She's so nervous about breaking her streak that she can't stop talking about it. Unfortunately, the tavern is loud and those nearby can't hear her very well. An old man wanders up to her and tells her that if she has a streak on her clothing she can get it out with the soap that his wife sells. Another younger, more attractive man comes up and says that Lady Cait can streak anytime she wants. Lady Cait's eyes go wide and she mumbles something about the wrong kind of streaking. Finally, a shady looking man walks up and says the only foolproof way to maintain a streak is cheating by magic. Lady Cait looks at them all in disgust and storms off. You catch her right before she leaves and offer to help.

As it usually goes, after few ales and delicious drop bears steaks, it's time for scary stories. After a couple of pretty tame stories, Sir Angel thinks it's time to share her adventure... "...and then I entered the woods following Ser -- tracks. Luckily moon was full so I could see almost everything otherwise I'd have to wait till morning. I heard sound away from the path and when I looked that way I saw a man. It had to be Ser -- so I went toward him calling his name. I guess he didn't hear me as he continued walking and at one point I lost him as there was huge tree on the way. When I got to that tree, I froze." You look around and all heroes are sitting on the edge, listening carefully. "On the ground were Ser -- clothes, but he was nowhere to be seen. And going away from the clothes I could see paw tracks. Big paw tracks. And then I heard it...." You start biting your nails. "Howl! But not normal wolf howl. This one was terrifying! It made my blood run cold." Silence. "Don't you see?! It's obvious, Ser -- is shapeshifter!" Everyone (but you) starts laughing hard.

Every hero ran to library to find dictionaries and tried to learn all those obscure words so they can win a prize (a jar of honey). Only Lady Gesa didn't do anything. After all, she grew up speaking German and who could forget all those nice words like Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz. The day has come and the heroes go up on stage. Lady Gesa, full of herself, just smirks at other heroes trying to cram in that last word before show-time. The local librarian goes from hero to hero and lets them pull the words out of a hat. Words like tomato, peanut, pancake, hamburger start coming up and Lady Gesa remembers she didn't eat anything that day. Her stomach starts to growl. The librarian is getting closer and closer and Lady Gesa's stomach is getting louder and louder. Lady Gesa is afraid she'll die of mortification if this doesn't end soon. Finally the librarian calls for a break and Lady Gesa looks at you to help her out and bring her something to eat.

"Ahh the potion that I want to try first is a delicate blend of boar liver, scat of mongoose and tree sap."
Cringing a bit you agree to look for the items.
Boar Liver may be found in books containing a boar or pig (dead or alive).
Scat of Mongoose may be found in any book taking place in Africa.
Tree Sap may be found in a book with a tree on the cover.
You give these all to The Alchemist and receive 1 Weakening Potion.
Weakening Potion - Reduces your attack power to half of normal for both sword and staff (rounded up).
"Oh my.... that's not what I wanted it to do."
You feel a bit woozy and have to sit down for awhile.
"Don't worry dear Chap. This one is foolproof! I just need a vial of duck feathers and 3 eyeball of newts."
A vial of duck feathers may be found in books where there is a swamp or wetlands.
Each eye of newt may be found in a book with an O anywhere in the title.
You give these all to The Alchemist and receive 1 Transmogrification Potion
Transmogrification Potion - Transforms 1 dropped item from a common monster into any other dropped item from a common monster.
You glance at The Alchemist. "Well...", you say. "It's certainly interesting. Though I'm not sure I need my goblin bones to be bat wings...."
The Alchemist sighs. "Don't worry. This last one will work for sure! All we need is all the vowels."
Find books that start with A, E, I, O, and U to provide all the vowels to The Alchemist.
For giving the Alchemist all the vowels, receive 1 Pet Plus Potion.
Pet Plus Potion - Doubles the effects of any pets of the hero for one week.

Acquire 5 pebbles to receive your very own Rocky the Rock pet. Rocky will subtract 1 attack point of any creature.
You may use another 5 pebbles to paint on a face and give Rocky real pet status. Rocky will then heal you 1 HP at the end of every battle.

Everybody Lies

You have a terrible rash.... well everywhere. It's itchy and scratchy and is stopping you from your love of murdering small fuzzy smelly sewer rats. You've been to Dr. Trowel over in Papeville and Dr. Winchester over in Novelette and even visited the local healing mage Mr. Smile. None of them were able to help. At your wits end you go over to The Academy Teaching Hospital to visit Dr. Cottage the best diagnostician in the region.
Dr. Cottage comes to the door, sneers at you and lets you in. You fumble with your hat then step inside.
"Ummm... Dr. Cottage.... I was told you would be able to help me with my rash. I haven't done anything to cause it!"
Dr. Cottage tells you to sit then storms out of the room. You look over to a whiteboard in the room with the words "signa, causae, curae" scribbled across the top.
Awhile later a young lady comes out and says "Hello, my name is Twelve... I mean Miriam. We think you have too much blood in your body. We're going to suck some out with leeches."
Treatment 1: (treatments must be completed in order)
Spell out the word LEECH by using Spell-It-Out Rules and read a book about blood sucking vampires.
Receive 2 Healing Potions for trying the leech treatment.
The last leech pops off with a *pop* after filling it's belly with blood. Shuddering you look at your skin and sadly you are still covered with rash but now have additional leech bites. Twelve comes back into the room. "Well... that wasn't the issue but we read your horoscope and you need some Gillyweed extract."
Treatment 2:
Gillyweed is a magical plant native to the Mediterranean Sea. Read a book set in a country that borders the Mediterranean Sea to find some.
To make the extract read a book on the list of crush books.
Finally, drink a lot of water to account for your new gills. Read a book where a large part of it takes place at sea.
Receive 1 Major Heal Potion for trying the Gillyweed treatment.
After recovering from your bout of fishiness, Twelve comes in again. "I'm sorry, we've narrowed it down to your brain having too much evil and it trying to seep out of your skin. We're going to need to perform a trepanation. It's a simple procedure where we bore a hole in your skull to let the evil spirits out." Your eyes go wide. "Ummmmm" you reply. "Could we maybe just try the marigold rub I heard about?" Twelve sighs, "Ok, we can try that first but you're risking your life by leaving all that evil inside."
Treatment 3:
Read a book where the cover is bright yellow to collect the marigolds.
Then read a science book to bring medicine into the 15th century.
Finally rest a week to recover your health. (Resting one week prevents the adventurer from participating in battles but battle wait timers will still tick and quests may still be turned in.)
After receiving treatment 3 you're cured! Gain 8 XP and restore your HP to max.

Smokey the Bear would be having a fit! The gentle rolling pages of gnarled hill are brown and brittle. The peaks of Binding Mountain are so dry they're blowing away. It's ripe for a terrible book fire and no one wants books to burn, even the terrible ones.
Throw one terrible book on the fire to appease the book gods. You hate to do it but messing with book gods is an even worse fate. (A terrible book should have less than 2 stars on GoodReads. It must be rated at least once by someone other than you.)
Then water everything down to make it grow by reading a book with a body of water on the cover or one set at sea.
Finally, make Smokey calm down by giving him a bucket of berries by reading a book with a mainly blue and purple cover.
For saving Novel Kingdom receive 1 Heal potion and 3 XP.

A Hero deserves some stress relief to take his or her mind off of the troubles of the world. That's where your pets come in. Why else have them? Their ability to combat monsters, find hidden treasures and seek hidden creatures is nothing on their ability to calm the troubled soul.
Play with your pets for some much needed stress relief. You must have each pet to be able to play with it.
Note for find items: Each type of item must have it's own potion and can be acted on individually by an item requirement reducing item.
Puppy:
• Make a tug toy with 2 rat tails and 1 bat wing. (Find Items Potion works for the rat tails.)
• Read a book where someone goes on vacation or a trip.

You feel a tug on your hook. Quickly, you jump up and reel it in as fast as you can and... an old smelly boot.

Queen Skye is enjoying the lovely April weather. Spring flowers and fall leaves all flowing around like a crazy whirlwind of unknown hemispheric origin. She asks her most trusted adviser Fred the Magician what the meaning of such randomness in life is. Her adviser is very upset with such a question. He tells you that "Randomness is the lack of pattern or predictability in events." But how can such randomness have meaning!
Help out poor Fred by finding meaning in the randomness.
Generate a random book. Record that book, it will be your reference for the rest of the quest. (You may generate up to two random books to choose between but have to use one of them to complete all the tasks.)
• Read a book with the same first or last name as the author of the random book.
• Read a book with the same top genre as the random book. (If no genre, guess the main genre and read from there.)

A scrawny little bird hops along the pathway. Hop, hop. It looks ridiculous. Almost all of it's feathers are gone, it's tiny and hungry looking.
You look back to your lunch and sigh. This bird needs your last bit of sandwich way more than you do. You take the last little bit of bread and toss it out in front of the bird. He looks startled, then grabs the tiny morsel, gobbles it up then flies away.
You look behind and see a beautiful Bird Feather lying behind where the bird was. This gives you an idea.
Befriend the poor bird by feeding him bits of sandwich. Each meal must be at least a week apart from the last.
To feed the bird, read 1 book with food on the cover and 1 book with a bird on the cover.
Feed the bird 3 times to befriend it. (No feathers are obtained until the bird has been befriended.)

Larry the Salesman is spectacular. He's in town and doing one of his famous infomercial sessions. Last time he was in town you bought your very favorite vegetable spiraller, which you admit would be better if you had vegetables to spiral with.
You're giddy with excitement for the big day. Larry steps up on stage, places a cutting board in front of him. A lumpy object is covered by a shimmering cloth.
Larry clears his throat. "Welcome! Ladies and Gentleheroes! I am here tonight to show you something extraordinary! This object I have before me can produce giant food out of tiny little pellets. It can be used to soothe wounds and heal skin. It can be used to assist in walking or in enhancing the look of your home. This is truly remarkable."
He whips off the cloth and everyone stares at.... a clump of dirt. At least you think it's a clump of dirt. Since Larry is selling it, and Larry is awesome, it must be something more. You hesitate but take your money up to the front and hand it to Larry. He gives you back your very own Clump of Dirt.

All of a sudden a small white rabbit darts across the field and disappears down the next row. You think that this is rather odd and it gives you a vague sense of déjà vu. You hurry quickly after it (what else are you to do really).
You round the corner and stop, eyes going wide. The rabbit is there sitting on a small chair. A table sits in front of him with a large orange carrot. He delicately slices the carrot into fine pieces and pops them into his mouth, chewing furiously.
You inquire as to where he found such a lovely carrot. He responds that Old Friar Tuck grows them in his garden.
You leave pondering such gardening feats. You head back to your house, though sometimes you feel it's just an empty plot of land. A patch of land on your property seems to glow with the light of future veggies.

You use the soup spoon to attack the bread, tear into your Merely Kat steak with all the grace of a starving ogre, and punctuate the meal with a loud, appreciative belch.
Your date, eyes wide and clearly traumatized, escorts you home with a polite smile and a vague promise to “catch up sometime.” The next morning, the post delivers a package: a pristine copy of The Ladies' and Gentlemen's Books of Etiquette and Manual of Politeness. “It’s not fair!” one tiny protester declares, stomping their foot. “Why don’t our little books count for quests? They may be short, but they’re full of big adventures!”
The head librarian looks frazzled, but before you can retreat unnoticed, the children spot you.
“An adventurer!” a bespectacled child exclaims. “You’ll help us, right? Show everyone that tiny books matter just as much as big ones!"
The children cheer as you accept the quest, and one particularly small warrior wields their little book like a shield. “Good luck, adventurer! Don’t let anyone underestimate the power of tiny tales!”
To champion the cause of tiny books (50-99 pages), complete the following tasks:
• Link tiny books by their titles. The last letter of the first book must be the first letter of the next book. Complete 3 pairs of title-linked tiny books. (The, A, An do count for this task)

1/ Read a book that has Winter, Christmas, Holidays, Mistletoe or Santa in the title.
2/ Read a book that was first published in December (any year).

Wearing an oversized pair of roller skates and a feathered hat far too fancy for a bird of his size, he glides around the stalls chirping, “Why pay full price when you can CHEEP your way to glory?”
Sir Bargainbeak has a dilemma, though. His “Library of Legendary Steals” has grown so large he can no longer remember which books were acquired where. Was The Tome of Forgotten Tales a bargain-bin find, or did he win it in a high-stakes poker game against a squirrel?
“Help a humble bird out!” he squawks, flapping his wings. “Fetch me proof of how you scored your books on the cheap, and I’ll make it worth your while. Oh, and one more thing—any book featuring a skate is just... well, chef’s kiss. Consider it a bonus!”

A cheerful gnome with glasses perched on the tip of his nose pops up from behind the counter.
“Ah, a fellow book lover!” he exclaims. “Welcome to my humble shop of duplicates, doppelgängers, and downright strange coincidences. I specialize in books that share the exact same title but couldn’t be more different in story, genre, or tone. Fascinating, isn’t it? Two tales, one name! I call it... book twinning!”
“Care to join me in celebrating the beauty of title twins? Find pairs of books with the same title, read them both, and marvel at how wildly different they can be—or how surprisingly similar! Complete my challenge, and I’ll reward you with something truly unique.”

Spell Quest - Part 2
Digging for Relief
(view spoiler)[A dreadful drought had swept across the Novel Kingdom, leaving the land as parched as a librarian caught without her tea. The townsfolk, understandably alarmed, turned to you—a person of action (or, at least, a person who owns a shovel). Of course, this is easier said than done. Digging a well isn’t just a matter of poking the ground until it gurgles apologetically. No, it will take brains, brawn, and perhaps a touch of bibliomancy. Once complete, the well will stand proud, its wooden pail swinging merrily and its mechanism creaking with rustic charm.
To make it happen:
• You’ll need to dig deep—read a book where "deep" and/or "depth" appears at least 40 times, because nothing inspires a hard day of shoveling like a little literary repetition.
• Spell out PAIL using standard spell-out rules, because apparently, water-hauling technology demands strict orthographic integrity.
• To securely attach the pail, you’ll need to craft a chain by reading five books, each published in consecutive decades—because the past is always full of links.

Plague Prevention

Queen Skye has been very happy to see an increase in the number of heroes in her realm who are helping manage the monsters who were starting to get out of control. She’s realised that the increased movement through the country has resulted in more people catching the plague and becoming unwell. She’d like your help to stop the spread.
Her team of advisors have developed a simple plan to follow to do this. There are 4 steps:
Mask Up - cover your mouth and nose
Keep your distance - 6 ft ideally (length of a lance if in doubt).
Wash your hands - in any water source you can find in the realm.
Help develop and give the vaccine

Thaddeus vs. Gravity
(view spoiler)[In the snowbound hills of the Novel Kingdom, Thaddeus the Slightly Less Mad spent his days inventing ways to cross snow without walking—a pointless chore inflicted by gravity, in his opinion. First came the Icebound Chariot, which hurled its rider downhill at “terminal enthusiasm.” Next were the Fence-Feet, inspired by fence planks and the idea that “snow isn’t slippery enough,” gliding their users straight into trees. Finally, Thaddeus unveiled the Snow Surfer that combined speed, balance, and confusion about where to sit.
When asked why he created such bone-breaking contraptions, Thaddeus replied, “One day we’ll need to flee downhill from dragons.” The townsfolk let him be, watching from a safe distance as Thaddeus hurtled past, laughing manically and bouncing like a badly thrown sack of potatoes. In the end, his inventions didn’t quite replace walking, but they did provide endless winter entertainment, and the hill where he tested them was later named Bonebreak Bluff in his honor.
To honor Thaddeus' bold inventions and questionable survival instincts read 6 books:

Equinox Shenanigans and Solstice Silliness
(view spoiler)[In the Novel Kingdom, the equinoxes and solstices weren’t just dates—they were excuses for unmitigated chaos. During the vernal equinox, villagers held the Great Balance Games, where they balanced eggs on spoons and occasionally on their heads, while claiming it aligned perfectly with the day-night harmony. The summer solstice, however, was the time for Runaway Sun Day, a festival where everyone blamed the heat for their bad decisions, including Sir Horace attempting to joust a sunflower. The autumn equinox brought Leaf Wars, with teams hurling armfuls of colorful leaves at one another, claiming it was an ancient tradition (though no one could agree who started it). Winter solstice, naturally, was the Festival of Shadows, where villagers competed to cast the longest shadow before sunset—unfortunately, last year’s winner had been a tree.
Queen Skye declared that every festival must include a story, quipping, “If we’re absurd, let’s be literary about it.”

Potion Quests - Part 5
The Great Easter Egg-scapade!
(view spoiler)[Spring has arrived in Novel Kingdom, and Queen Skye’s subjects are eagerly preparing for the most egg-citing celebration of the season—Easter! The festival promises grand egg hunts, chocolate feasts, and a special appearance from the Easter Bunny himself. Even the local rabbits have rehearsed a festive dance to welcome their beloved holiday hero.
But just as the final decorations are placed on the Golden Egg Display, disaster strikes. A notorious gang of mischievous chickens, known as the Peep Bandits, has stolen every single Easter egg—including the legendary Jewel Egg of Infinite Yolk. Without these sacred eggs, the Easter celebration cannot proceed.
The kingdom needs a hero—a sharp-witted, book-loving champion with a fondness for bunnies. That means you!
Your mission: Recover the stolen eggs, outwit the Peep Bandits, and restore Easter to Novel Kingdom.
Quest Rules:
- Complete each part in order. No skipping ahead—this isn’t a shortcut through a hedge maze.
- Use books from your Tote of Infinite Books that were read or first published in March or April, or select fresh books (read after the publication of this quest).
- To earn the final reward you need to complete all parts of the quest - that includes confronting the mastermind behind the heist (in Part 5).
Part 1: Crack the Case
The kingdom is in chaos. The eggs are missing, people are panicking, and local chocolatiers are in despair. To solve this mystery, you’ll need to gather clues and act fast.
1. Interview the Witnesses – The royal guards reported suspicious figures lurking near the Golden Egg Display last night. Someone must know something.
• Read a book featuring an investigation, whether it’s a detective story, conspiracy unraveling, or sleuthing adventure.
2. Consult the Town Gossip – Every kingdom has someone who knows everything. Here, it’s Madame Whispermouth, who only speaks in riddles and half-truths.
• Read a book where secrets or rumors play a major role in the plot.
3. Inspect the Crime Scene – In the Royal Egg Vault which under normal circumstances houses the Jewel Egg of Infinite Yolk, you find colorful feathers, candy wrappers, and a cryptic note. To gather the clues:

Part 2: The Great Egg Hunt
Using your newly gathered information and detective skills, you pinpoint the hiding places of the stolen eggs. It’s time to track them down.
1. Recover the Chocolate Eggs – The Forest of Fiction is filled with hidden chocolate eggs, but some are booby-trapped. (Ever stepped on a melted chocolate egg? Disgusting.)
• Read a book with two or more Ts in the title (for trees) to search the area.
• To disarm the boobytraps, read a book where a bomb either explodes or somebody manages to neutralize it in time.
2. Rescue the Sugar-Coated Hostages – In the village of the Marshmallow Peeps, you discover that some of the townsfolk have been kidnapped by the Peep Bandits. They must be freed before they go stale.
• Read a book with a pink cover.
• Read a book that is heartwarming or sweet, such as a romance or fairy tale.
3. Look for the Jewel Egg of Infinite Yolk – The most powerful Easter artifact (or at least the shiniest) must be hidden somewhere high above, possibly on Cloud Nine.
• Read a book with the word "sky," "star," "cloud," or "moon" in the title or a book that is the ninth in the series.
Despite your best efforts, you recover only half of the stolen eggs and the Jewel Egg of Infinite Yolk is amongst those still missing. Queen Skye, however, appreciates your bravery and rewards you.
Reward for completing Part 2: 6 XP, 3 Find Item Potions.
Part 3: Prepare for Battle
The Peep Bandits will not surrender without a fight. You’ll need to gather supplies, form a strategy, and prepare for the final confrontation.
1. Gather Your Gear – A true hero is only as strong as their resolve (and their equipment).
• Read a book with a traditional weapon (sword, dagger, or gun) on the cover. No umbrellas, even if they can be wielded creatively.
2. Form an Attack Plan – The Peep Bandits are quick, fluffy, and fueled by sugar. You need to be prepared.
• Read a book where the main character wins a physical fight.
• To practice, defeat 20 Common monsters (!Timed monsters don't count!). All battles must take place after completing Part 2.
• To plan this complex operation, read a book featuring a character in a significant role who is a high-ranking officer, such as a colonel, general or admiral.
3. Prepare for the Sugar Rush – Battles require energy, and you’ll need plenty of it.
• Read a book with food on the cover to stock up on essential battle snacks.
Reward for completing Part 3: 6 XP, 6 Carrots (they might come in handy later).
Part 4: The Final Egg-Straction
The Peep Bandits’ secret hideout is revealed—a colossal chocolate fortress in the heart of Candy Cane Canyon. It’s time for the final showdown.
1. Infiltrate the Candy Fortress – The entrance is guarded by five rabbits kidnapped from the Forest of Fiction and brainwashed by the Peep Bandits to do their bidding. The best way to both cure their condition and sneak past unnoticed is to use carrots as bait. Your mum was right—carrots can cure a plethora of complaints.
• Read a book where the word "carrot" or "carrots" appears at least five times.
• Read a book where the main character sneaks, spies, or infiltrates a location.
2. Confront the Egg Thief – Deep within the fortress, you face the leader of the Peep Bandits gang, Sir Peepington III, a giant, fluffy, ill-tempered chicken in a tiny top hat. He has long resented Queen Skye’s favoritism toward bunnies and chocolate, and he plans to ruin Easter to make his point.
• Read a book with headwear on the cover to identify him.
• Read a book where the villain is exaggerated or over-the-top to distract Sir Peepington by placating his huge ego.
3. Recover the Remaining Eggs – With Sir Peepington distracted, you seize the Jewel Egg of Infinite Yolk and the rest of the stolen eggs and make your escape.
• Read a book where the protagonist is a runner—either an athlete or someone running from responsibility.
Reward for completing Part 4: 6 XP, 3 Heal Potions.
Part 5: Defeat the Egg-Napper Extraordinaire
Just when you think the mission is complete, Sir Peepington consumes a Jellybean of Doom and transforms into his ultimate form: Sir Peepocalypse
1. Defeat Sir Peepocalypse
Stats: 33 attack, 99 health.
This huge marshmallow-padded chicken uses its inherent special ability, Sugar Crash, against you. It overwhelms you with sugary sweetness, muddling your mind and rendering magic and advanced weaponry useless. Your primary weapon's base attack is reduced to one third of its original power (e.g., sword LVL 15 hits for 5 AP + 2 weapon bonus + pets + inventory and other bonuses). Magic and other weapons don't work against this hopped-up-on-sugar menace at all.
Tactical tip: To reduce Sir Peepocalypse's attack power, throw a carrot at him at the beginning of each turn. This offsets the sugar overload with something healthy, reducing his attack by 10 AP.
2. Return all the eggs to the Royal Egg Vault – So that the Kingdom might prepare the celebration in time for Easter.
• Read a book with an egg on the cover or "Easter" in the title.
3. Celebrate your victory!
• Announce your victory in the Local Tavern thread.
Reward for completing Part 5: 15 XP, 3 Duplication Potions.
Final Celebration
With the stolen eggs safely returned, the kingdom rejoices. Queen Skye proclaims you the official Easter Champion, and the Easter Bunny himself acknowledges your heroic deeds. As a token of gratitude, you receive an additional reward: 5 XP and 3 of the Easter Bunny’s finest decorated eggs. Your name is forever etched in the annals of Novel Kingdom’s history, and Easter is saved once more.

If her kingdom was to remain at peace, her people had to understand war—not just its battles, but its causes, its costs, and the scars it leaves behind. Your quest is to uncover the tales of war and share your findings so that others may also learn. For if enough people understand war, perhaps fewer will choose to wage it.
So, grab your books, sharpen your wits, and embark upon this noble quest. After all, history has a habit of repeating itself… unless, of course, someone stops it.

What's in a name? (Enough to start a royal debate, apparently.)

The court is abuzz with preparations, and even the squirrels in the royal gardens are arranging their nuts in celebratory patterns (or possibly just in patterns, as squirrels are wont to do). But there’s one small hitch—the Queen cannot decide on a name for the future heir or heiress.
Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to help expand Queen Skye’s baby name list by drawing inspiration from the finest tomes of the land.
To do that:
• Read five books with a first name in the title. Each name must be unique—no trying to sneak in two books about someone called "John," even if one of them is wearing a magical hat.
• Post your name list in the Tavern thread so that the patrons can guess at which one our queen will pick for her baby.
For suplementing the Queen’s baby name list with 5 bookish names, you earn 8 XP.

The Emperor’s New Nonsense
(view spoiler)[In the Kingdom of Lexomere, Emperor Thumble has taken to strolling the streets in what he claims are “robes of refined intellect.” Alas, they are nothing but air and ego, stitched together by two swindlers who promised garments only the wise could see. His citizens, not wishing to seem dim, cheer his breezy fashion sense while pretending not to wince.
Only one child dares to say, “He’s wearing nothing at all!”—and is immediately shushed for being "unpatriotic" and possibly allergic to velvet.
Queen Skye, well-read and well-dressed, remembers this tale from her storybooks. What began as a chuckle quickly became concern as Thumble’s nonsense spread: rewriting schoolbooks, replacing judges with yes-men, and claiming the moon as part of his personal real estate portfolio.
Now the Queen turns to you, bold reader! Not to hem trousers or design capes, but to unravel delusion with the sharp scissors of truth. Read bravely. Think clearly. And for the love of literacy, help the Novel Kingdom resist the rise of royal ridiculousness!
Complete the following tasks in pursuit of truth and clarity::
1. The Invisible Fabric Test - The Emperor insists that certain topics are “too controversial” for polite conversation. How convenient!

6. Chronicle The Truth - so that others may benefit from your hard-won wisdom.

Fred’s Fiery Fiasco
(view spoiler)[Fred the Magician, in a dazzling display of poor judgement and overconfidence, has once again set part of the castle ablaze—this time incinerating half his beginner spell scroll collection. It might have been avoidable had he not stored them next to a mountain of Phoenix Feathers and a barrel clearly marked “Definitely Not Flammable (Probably).”
To help salvage the situation—and prevent Fred from “testing fireproofing spells” on the castle drapes—you’ve been asked to assist in reconstructing the lost scrolls. The information can still be found, scattered across spellcasting manuals, old wizard memoirs, and books teeming with magical mayhem. Restoring the scrolls will aid future adventurers… and buy time while someone discreetly relocates Fred’s half-built fire golem to somewhere with fewer curtains.
Search for the lost knowledge in:
1. Spellcasting manuals: Read a book where a main character chants, sings, or recites a poem.

Potion Quests - Part 6
A Royal Flush
(view spoiler)[Queen Skye had many concerns—border disputes, economic stability, the occasional dragon—but few things troubled her more than the stench permeating the kingdom’s streets. The Novel Kingdom was grand and glorious, but it had one fatal flaw: an absolute disaster of a sanitation system. The streets reeked, the rivers ran suspiciously brown, and the castle’s moat had gained a rather unsettling reputation (the less said about the glowing green sludge, the better).
Some said this was simply the way of things. Others, usually after an unfortunate slip in something unmentionable, insisted that something must be done. Queen Skye, being a forward-thinking ruler (and also quite tired of holding her breath while walking through the city), declared that you should be the one to fix the mess.
Thus begins your most noble and revolting quest yet!
The Steps to Sanitation:
1. Prepare yourself – No hero should enter this "battle" unaware of what awaits them.
Spell out the word STENCH using standard spell-it-out rules.
2. Brave the Depths – The kingdom’s sewers await. Abandon hope, all ye who sniff.
Read a book where the main character must navigate an underground location.
3. The Rat King’s Dominion – The sewers have a ruler of their own, and he’s not pleased to see you.
Read a book featuring a crime lord (or a mafia boss) to help drive the Rat King out of his smelly domain.
4. The Source of the Problem – Ah, the blockage. A horrifying combination of waste, lost treasures, and things best left unmentioned.
Read a book where a treasure is discovered (hopefully, it's worth the smell).
5. Clear the Pipes – With heroic determination (and probably a very long stick), you set things right.
Read a book with a shovel, a bucket or a spoon on the cover.
6. A Cleaner Kingdom (Mostly) – The filth is flowing freely again! Er... to the river. That’s future-you’s problem.
Read a book that contains the word “ecology” in the text.
Success! While you haven't solved all of the kingdom’s sanitation problems, you've tackled the worst of them—the blocked sewers. The noblemen still grumble about stepping in dung on the streets, but honestly, you're not a magician. Let everyone clean up after their own pets.
Queen Skye, now able to walk through her city without pinching her royal nose shut, bestows upon you a well-earned reward.

Alchemy That! Part II: The Spectral Brew

Bill the Alchemist greets you with a suspiciously enthusiastic grin as you return to his laboratory. “You’re back! Fantastic! I’ve been working on something revolutionary—something that will change the way we deal with monsters forever! Imagine bringing them back to life, but, uh… more dangerous. I call it The Reanimation Potion! Just think of the rewards! The glory! The academic papers! All I need now are a few… minor… ingredients.”
You eye the cluttered lab nervously, noting the bubbling cauldron that seems to be emitting a faint scream. “Let me guess,” you mutter, “I’m collecting the ingredients?”
“Oh, of course, dear hero. But I assure you, this one will work perfectly. No side effects. Probably.”
Pre-requisite: You must complete Alchemy That! quest before attempting Part II (if you haven't already).
The Alchemist is asking for fresh ingredients as he brews the potion.

1. The Essence of Past Battles
“First, we’ll need the essence of a worthy adversary. Read a book featuring a duel, battle, or fight scene—it must really make you feel the adrenaline rising.”
(“Perfect! The potion's starting to look dangerous now.”)
2. Ghostly Whispers
“Next, I need something spooky—a whisper from beyond the grave, if you will. Read a book with a ghost, spirit, or other spectral being in it. And no, that romance novel with the ‘hauntingly handsome hero’ doesn’t count.”
(“Ah, now it’s bubbling! A good sign!”)
3. Shadowed Memories
“This step requires an emotional touch. We need the memory of loss. Read a book where a character mourns, grieves, or faces some kind of profound personal loss. The potion feeds on sadness, you see. For, uh, scientific reasons.”
(“Excellent work! The potion’s gone black. That’s totally normal, right?”)
4. The Spark of Life
“Now, we need something bright—a spark to reanimate the spirit. Find and read a book with lightning, storms, or electricity in its pages. Kudos if someone yells ‘It’s alive!’ but that’s optional.”
(“Aha! It’s glowing now! …Wait, is it supposed to move?”)
5. An Unwilling Sacrifice
“Lastly, we need… oh, you’re going to love this one! We need a book that’s been neglected. You know, the one collecting dust on your physical or virtual bookshelf for the minimum of 3 years. Sacrifice it to the cause by actually reading it.”
(“Brilliant! The potion is complete! And it only singed my eyebrows a little.”)
You hand over the final ingredient, and the Alchemist triumphantly raises the potion into the air. It glows ominously, and you feel an unsettling chill in the room.
“Behold! The Re-animation Potion is ready! Soon, every rare monster in the Novel Kingdom will have a ghostly counterpart—and I’ll be rich! Uh, I mean… science will thrive!”
He sends you off with a sample to present to Jack’s Store, where the potion is immediately stocked for purchase (at a very steep price). As thanks for your efforts, Jack tosses you a free sample.
Reward: 1 Re-animation Potion. Moreover, the Potion is now "unlocked" for purchase - it means you can buy it at Jack's Store if you can afford it. Mind that as a highly advanced potion it cannot be duplicated by the Magical Pumpkin.
Re-animation potion
- Resurrects a defeated rare monster (including rare magical ones) as a ghostly version of its former self. Works only on monsters you originally defeated longer than a year ago. This ghost is far more dangerous than the original, with both its attack power and health doubled.
Upon defeating the ghost, you receive the same amount of XP and regular loot (such as potions, potion tokens, mercenary coupons, and gold) as you would for slaying the original creature. Any monster-specific items (such as gems, orbs, or body parts) will appear as the "shadow" of the original, and can be used only once before they dissipate permanently (e.g., the Shadow of the Orb of Fire grants +3 AP to your magic staff for a single battle).
Each rare monster can be reanimated only once, and the process does not work on Halloween Monsters, other Event Monsters, and zombies, as they’ve already been reanimated once before. The Rare and the Rare Magical Monsters eligible for reanimation will be revealed in waves (stay tuned for announcements in the Notice Board thread). You must defeat all the monsters in one wave before you can start reanimating those from the next. Detailed stats and rewards for each Ghost of [Monster] can be found in the Ye Olde FAQ thread.

The Royal Tapestry Room is in a bit of a cheerful mess. Spools of thread are scattered everywhere, magical bobbins are tangling themselves into knots, and someone (probably a sprite) left jam on the edge of the warp loom.
“It’s supposed to tell everyone’s story,” says Pip, the youngest weaving apprentice, peering at a section of the cloth. “But we noticed… well, some colors are missing.”
They hold up a bundle of shimmering rainbow thread. “Would you help us stitch in the ones we forgot? We need stories full of love, discovery, pride, adventure, and joy—especially the kind that’s been left off the page for far too long.”
And just like that, you’ve joined the Weaver’s Circle.
To weave in the colors of rainbow into the Royal Tapestry:

Kindlecorn Soup for the Spiritually Knackered

Battling monsters is all well and good, of course, but even the bravest adventurers eventually run out of sheer spite and mediocre swordplay. After your latest clash with the forces of unpleasantness, you glance at your party and realize they look like overcooked noodles—wobbly, pale, and only upright thanks to strategic leaning.
This simply won’t do. So you drag the lot of them to Dr. Cottage, eccentric herbalist, field surgeon, and soup theorist. He hops closer, using his trusty cane, peers at your companions, sniffs loudly, and mutters, “Spiritually knackered. Only one thing for it. You’re cooking Kindlecorn Soup.”
Of course, he won’t just give you the recipe. That would be far too easy. “It’s a sacred broth,” he insists, “reserved for moments of true crisis… and mild social inconvenience.”
Time to prove yourself worthy of soup.
You must have a Kitchen at least LVL 1 to begin.
Part 1: Equip Your Kitchen (Non-repeatable)
To even attempt Dr. Cottage’s restorative cuisine, you need proper tools. He refuses to let his sacred soup touch anything “chipped, cursed, or emotionally fragile.”

Part 2: Earn Dr. Cottage’s Trust (Non-repeatable)

• Cook 1 Drop Bear Steak to prove your culinary competence. (You must complete the Drop Bear Feast quest first if you haven't already.)
• Read a book with a pen, pencil, or quill on the cover to show you’re ready to copy down the recipe into your personal grimoire.
• Bribe—ahem, supply—Dr. Cottage with 3 Minor Heal Potions. (You’re not proud to encourage his tonic addiction, but desperate times call for mildly unethical measures.)

• You must have a cauldron and the recipe.
• Gather 5 Tree Branches to fuel the fire.
• Gather 5 Phoenix Feathers to ignite the fire with a flourish.
• Follow Dr Cottage's recipe and cook 1 cauldron of his delicious soup for your mercenaries.
Reward: 1 Cauldron of Kindlecorn Soup – Doubles your hired mercenary’s strength for 1 battle.
(Note: Radagast, a staunch vegetarian and soup snob, will politely decline your meaty masterpiece.)
Important Notes:
• To cook the soup, you must use only superfresh ingredients—that is, books read within the past month. For example, if you're making the soup on July 15th, only books finished on or after June 15th will count.
• You can only cook 1 Kindlecorn Soup per calendar month.
• The soup spoils 30 days after being cooked.
• The Magical Pumpkin cannot duplicate Kindlecorn Soup.

The Curse of the Crystal
(view spoiler)[A dreadful calamity has befallen the Novel Kingdom! The villainous wizard Forever Everly, a man whose primary motivation appears to be an unhealthy surplus of spite and pointy hats, has cursed our beloved Queen Skye. In a particularly petty act of magical mischief, he has stripped her of her most prized possession: her memory of every book she has ever read. A queen of a kingdom built on stories, suddenly bereft of her literary treasures. It’s not just a catastrophe—it’s a travesty with footnotes, appendices, and a badly scrawled index. Naturally, Everly has scuttled off to his hideout atop Mount Sapientia, a brooding and windswept peak where ominous things happen on a strictly hourly schedule. There, guarded by foul monsters and an unusually high number of ominous doorways, lies the Crystal of Knowledge—the only artifact capable of undoing the queen’s bibliographic amnesia.
To claim the Crystal of Knowledge and restore Queen Skye, you must complete the following steps:
1. Defeat the Rare Monsters of the Land - Before you may approach the foot of Mount Sapientia, you must rid the kingdom of the rare monsters that terrorize its people. Only then will the path to the mountain be clear.
• Kill all the rare monsters that are roaming around the realm at the time the quest is published (6/22/25), that icludes The Evil Godmother.
2. Ascend Mount Sapientia - The climb to the summit is long and arduous, requiring not only physical endurance but the wisdom found in weighty tomes. With each book, you ascend higher, braving the thin air and the dangers of the mountain trail.
• Read 5 books of 400+ pages each.
3. Breach the Lair of Forever Everly - At the peak of the mountain lies the wizard's lair, fortified by ancient wards of dark magic. Breaking through requires immense strength of mind and spirit.
• Read 5 books of 500+ pages each. These mighty tomes will grant you the knowledge needed to shatter the barriers and enter the lair.
4. Defeat the Villainous Wizard - Within his lair, the foul wizard awaits, protected by his mastery of arcane spells. To best him in battle, you must arm yourself with the greatest of literary weapons.
• Read 5 books of 800+ pages each. Every page strengthens your resolve and hones your power, until you can strike the final blow and end his tyranny.
5. Claim the Crystal of Knowledge - Though the wizard is vanquished, your greatest challenge remains: seizing the Crystal of Knowledge itself. The artifact is guarded by unbreakable wards that can only be undone by the mightiest wisdom.
• Read 5 books of 1,000+ pages each. Only these monumental works will grant you the insight to unlock the Crystal's power.
6. Restore Queen Skye - With the Crystal of Knowledge in hand, you must undertake one final act of devotion to cure your queen. To restore her memory and her love of books, you must offer a profound collection of stories from a single mind.
• Read 5 different standalone books by the same author—all books must be different titles, no series allowed (strictly standalone books). These tales will heal her spirit and awaken her love for literature once more.
Triumph is sweet—sweeter than a freshly baked pie stolen from a windowsill. Once Queen Skye is restored to her regal glory, her gratitude is as boundless as the kingdom’s library stacks. As she surveys her realm with clear eyes once more, her gaze falls upon the Crystal of Knowledge, still glowing faintly from your heroic deeds. With a radiant smile (and a flair for the dramatic), she presents it to you, noble knight, as a token of her appreciation and a testament to your courage.

If you have not applied your books towards the completion of a quest you may re-apply them to another purpose if you are unable to complete the quest.
