What did you think of it? Favorite or least favorite characters? Favorite or least favorite part?

message 2: by Di (new) - rated it 3 stars

Di I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't written by. Mead! I've come. To expect too much from her and this book just didn't deliver enough of anything for me. Disappointing.

Louise I have to say that i found this book really boring. I didnt feel for any of the characters, and it was a slow read. Really disappointing as i am a big fan of Mead

Lori Carpenter | 3 comments I liked this book. I thought the story was original and it kept me interested all the way through. The names were s bit distracting, but were essential for the world they inhabited.

Natalie (teelie) | 46 comments There just wasn't enough...I don't know, development maybe. Or maybe there was too much. I didn't feel connected with the world or the characters. However, the pace flowed and it was interesting, although I didn't feel any emotions at all. Kind of bland.

Di Anyone else feel disappointed in the 'fantasy' aspect of this book? It may be just me, but the last 10 pages doesn't constitute enough to suddenly turn this into a fantasy novel!

Raymond Ong (rayreadsph) | 15 comments I love this book. The concept of the book for me is really interesting. Like putting myself in that situation makes it more fun to read.
The book maybe short but I think It is well written. My only concern with this book is the character development that is why I don't have favorite & least favorite characters. Other reason that I love this is the Chinese element of it. :D

Gretchen | 42 comments I liked this book I loved all the action and adventure. And I am always a sucker for the good triumphs over evil type story. Ms. Mead deals with a touche' subject in a creative way . But I agree with Di the fantasy part had a good beginning but it was not enough to turn the story into a fantasy story. On the other hand maybe Ms. Mead wanted to put the fantasy part in but didn't want to concentrate on that in this book but stay focused on the subject. But overall I enjoyed it!

Gretchen | 42 comments I have to agree it was a wonderful book but the ending was a little disappointing

Di Casey wrote: "That's exactly how I felt! It was such a beautiful book, definitely not for everyone, but up until that point all of the fantasy elements had been explained by real-life things (loss of senses, blocking of the mountain pass, etc.). I was all excited to see Fei come up with an awesome plan to save her people... and very disappointed at what felt like a cop-out ending. It was a beautifully written book, and very enjoyable, but that ending left me very unsatisfied."

Yes! I agree with that! It felt like it was somehow tacked on? It could have been built into the entire story in a much nicer way to make it feel integrated at least.
