Has anyone used LinkedIn for their author profiles? I've never used it and I'm not sure if it's beneficial or if it will be just another time killer. I already have a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and my blog (other than here obviously). What are some of the advantages or even disadvantages of LinkedIn for authors?

I just set up a LinkedIn account, and connected with a website that features indie books. But I see no other use for it, and connecting is sort of haphazard. It seems that its primary purpose is to find you a job, and it's impossible to get away from that. It has a bunch of limitations, and I can't see any benefits for an author, but maybe I just haven't explored it enough. So far I don't like it, but it costs nothing to join, so you might try it to see if it works for you.

I have. I just decided it is time to learn how to use social media effectively. I just purchased "How to Use Linked In to Sell More Books" by Victoria Ipri and Austin Briggs. Let you know if I learn anything that helps to actually sell books.

How do you use instagram to help raise your author's platform?

Instagram is like twitter, lots of hashtags but no 140 character limit. Works best with lots and lots of pictures.

Cool. I bought two books at Amazon about Instagram yesterday but haven't read them yet.

I went ahead and made a LinkedIn account. If anyone wants to add me to their network my profile is here: www.linkedin.com/in/samanthacfischer

I sent an invitation. I need all the connections I can get.

Nik, that doesn't appear to be a good link. When I'm signed on it takes me to my own account, and signed off it brings up the a sign-on page. But I think I found you anyway--sent an invitation.

Nik Krasno You are right, thanks. Maybe this one will work:

Received and confirmed your invitation

M. Ray Holloway Jr. (mrayhollowayjr) | 180 comments I've been on LinkedIn for many years, and it served me very well when I was a printer, even landing me one job that paid very well. The problem that I have with it now is that I am retired and they keep sending me job opportunities, and of course, I am not looking for a job. I have one; I am a writer now, as it clearly says in my LinkedIn profile.

I would list my LinkedIn url if I could figure out how to do it.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 790 comments You know I have no clue what LinkedIn even is? I always assumed it was a site that allows you to connect with people by connecting other social media sites. I've had countless requests from people but since I don't have an account I usually just ignore them. I guess I should probably look into what it is

I don't think it would be very useful. I already had a Linked In account for my day job, and I added that I was now a published author. A few friends saw it and congratulated me on that. But otherwise, no. Linked In is primarily for corporate jobs. I don't see it being very useful for authors. Facebook would be FAR more effective than Linked In.

Linked In is primarily geared for corporate jobs and job hunting.

In that case I should really be on there as I've been unemployed way too long lol.

It's always a good idea to have profiles everywhere. I don't know from what cyber networks I get my readers from. All that the site shares when there is a sale is the country.
