Gabi Maldonado In The Selection the main character America Singer is developed through a lot of thought through characterization. I am on page 76 right now so I am not that far along in the book yet so I don't know her as well as the people who have finished this book do because they have seen her face her conflict and get over it. When the book reaches it's climax the reader can learn a lot about the character especially through the decision made at that point in the book which usually resolves the conflict. At the point in the book where I am now I know that America is one of the 35 girls selected and I know her main struggle throughout the book is deciding whether it is the right thing to stay at home or give up or work hard to win the selection even if the prince and the rules are unfair. Through this we can see her love for Aspen and her mom because they are the reasons that she is doing the selection no matter how much she doesn't want to do that.
