The Queen of Scots Mystery by Cecilia Peartree

This helps me keep moving on with a favorite series that is on my FWYS list (but not this month's choice)... Keep whittling away...

Review
I know a lot of people love this book but I just about finished. I am Irish and I have heard many accounts of life in Ireland from the same time frame and even though they had hard lives and some common events they all manage to be less negative than Mr. McCourt.
Parts of this were vaguely interesting but mostly I found it to be very clichéd and irritating. His is a very narrow depressing view of things.

Week #8

The Outsiders
My Rating: ★★★★★
Date Finished: 3/05
Alternate Option: Best Books Ever
Final Thoughts:
Honestly I had no idea what to expect when I started this book. I have never even seen the movie. So I was pleasantly surprised when I ended up loving it. I listened to the audiobook and must say the narrator (Jim Fyfe) did a great job. I had a difficult time pausing it even for a second. I'm glad I finally got around to reading this book.

The Queen of Scots Mystery by Cecilia Peartree
Pages: 219
Rating: ★★★★★
Date Finished: 3/5/16
Final Thoughts:
I really do enjoy this series, and in this one, a number of the usual characters are facing some serious life-changing events. They all stick together to get through the rough times, and work to solve the mystery of what happened at the Queen of Scots. Strong characters and great plot development, and a good dose of British humor. What's not to like?

This was a reread but I think it is around 30 years since I last read it. I remembered the monks dying and also the reason why but I did not remember who was the guilty character. The mystery this time around was still quite intriguing.
What was not intriguing was the rest of the book. I had completely forgotten all about the extremely long pages of theological discussions, it was so boring. For the last three days, every time I tried to read it, I fell asleep and I am pleased I finally got through it today.

Sandpiper Island by Donna Kauffman
Bachelors of Blueberry Cove #3
Qualification: 3 in a series
Finished: 03/10/16

This book was completely enjoyable. With charming characters, a cozy and relaxing setting, an engaging plot and well written story this is a good romance to get lost in. Ford and Delia are two loners. He lives on a tree house and works to save sea birds. She is struggling to save her diner and her town from a greedy builder. They understand that if they join forces is easier to win. They will try to unite their forces and their hearts

Review: Well this was one dark, crazy read. I am the only person left on earth who has yet to read Gone Girl, so I went into this one not knowing what to really expect of her writing style. I liked it. The ending was just a little more flat than I would have preferred. But it didn't effect my overall thoughts of the book. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

It's been a crazy week around here... hopefully things will go more smoothly next week [in other words - hope that the 10 month old who has slept through the night since she was 8 weeks old will start sleeping through the night again and this week was a teething fluke or something - I'm a zombie!]

Omg. I'd kill for my 4.5 year old and 2 year old to sleep through the night.
Teething is terrible. I dread the day my 2 yr old get her back molars. (making scared face )

Honestly both of my kids are rockstar sleepers. They always have been. But Katelyn has really had a time with teething. It's caught me so off guard because with Garrett we literally never knew he was teething until the teeth were fully through the gums! He was never even phased by it. But with Katelyn, you'd think she was being murdered. Last round she got four uppers all at the same time. She won't let me peek in there to see what she's got coming in now... there's no telling, but they need to hurry up, lol

Final Thoughts:
This was really good. I love the humor and how the characters interact with each other. The ghosts were a bit over the top, but as this is a comedy, sometimes too much is funnier than anything else. The romance and bromance is also funny and gives a different slant to the whole story. If you want something fun to read and not at all serious, this is the ticket.

Review
The character of Jared has intrigued me since he first appeared in the series as Ace's friend so I was looking forward to reading his story.
Jared is a whore and Dallas's Spy. The first made him rich and the second could get him killed. He meets the newcomer to Sector 4, Lili Fleming at a sector 4 party and Finn asks if we would keep an eye on her.
Lili is the daughter of former Sector 5 leader Mac Fleming. Dallas owes her but she is determined to find her own place. I really liked the two of them together and Lili finding who she is when she didn't have to play the role of perfect daughter or perfect wife It was nice to see Jared finding love. In the bigger story, it looks like things could get more interesting in the sectors.
I will continue with the series as I really want to know more about Doc.

Final Thoughts:
I knew I wouldn't enjoy Phury's story very much which explains why it took me so long to actually read it. I just didn't care much about him. I hated how hung up on Bella he was. In this book it took him forever to get over that shit and actually see Cormia. His boo hoo pity party for one drove me bonkers. It didn't help that this book was only about 30% Phury and Cormia's story and 70% everybody else's. I still liked it enough to rate it 3 stars. But I still say IAD is the better series. By far.

Review:
I like the way Wax and Steris' relationship is changing and how Steris is growing to be a very big part of this story. Wayne is brilliant, just like in the last book and I like how they and the rest of the main characters work together.
I have to admit that I sometimes when reading series get a bit tired of the ongoing story. I like them to finish a story and continuing with something new in the next book. That is what happened to me in this book but then Brandon Sanderson did what he does so well. He adds a few very surprising twists and turns and I love that. I am looking forward to reading the last book in this series but while waiting for 2018 I will read some more of his other books.

The Mystery of the Blue Train byAgatha Christie
Hercule Poirot #6
Qualification: 6 in a series
Finished: 03/17/16
Rating: 4/5 Stars
I'm a fan of Agatha Christie and I was very curious to read the book that she has defined "the worst I have ever written". It's not amazing how the others but it was a pleasant reading. The beginning is very slow and boring, are presented all the characters, many nameless and there is a long description of the ruby necklace, possible reason of the murder. After the crime, the pace is faster, the plot becomes more intriguing and interesting. The thing I loved the most is the setting, the charming Blue Train that linked London with the Cote d'Azur.

Hot Six by Janet Evanovich

Review: I think I've hit the point where I shouldn't have read books 4, 5 and 6 in this series in the past couple of months. Because while enjoyable, you definitely notice how predictable they are - you can almost guarantee Stephanie will blow up a car, ponder her sex life endlessly, and make a fool of herself on more than one occasion. Now that's not all to say that I didn't like this book. Because I did. But I feel like I would have liked it better if I hadn't read the last two so recently. In this one she's kind of on the hunt for Ranger ... Well, really she's working for him to get him out of a jam. She finds herself in some interesting situations and her grandmother temporarily moves in with her! So there's a lot of laughs in this one. A fun, easy read ... But I think it's time to back off this series for a few months. Recommended.

It will be done by midnight I promise. :)

What a sweet story. Montana one of the Fools Gold triplets meets Simon, a traveling doctor working with burn patients.
I thought this was a sweet story. I really enjoy Susan Mallery ' s writting and visions that she puts into your head. I absolutely can't wait to read the next book in the series
