I know you guys did this a few months ago but I missed out. After I conquer Moby Dick (currently at the 40% mark), I plan to read War and Peace. I KNOW!!!! But if anyone else is up for it, I'm thinking of starting in Feb or March.

I'd also read it with you, Paula. But it's not on my list for 2017!! So, I'd be happy to re-arrange because I really do want to read it, and it would be nice to have some fellow readers that I can talk to during, to ask questions if I get bogged down. Maybe if I start in February I might be able to keep up with you, even if you start in March! You are really plowing through those BIG books!! Let me know what you and Nathan think :)

Woohoo! Now I have an excuse to actually purchase this book. I have been eyeballing the hardback version of the most amazing Russian translators.

I'd like to read W&P in 2017, also. Realistically, a book of that size will take me 3-6 months. I would plan to start it no sooner than April and be done in August.

I don't really want to nominate it for the Polls because it is actually quite difficult/expensive to get hold of, but if anyone out there is keen, I think this is one I'd like company with...?

I might try the pacing of your choice, even if I'd be impatient to finish the book. But the novelty of reading a book for 3-5 months has an appeal.

I might try this with you as long as you don't want to read it until spring or summer. I can get a library copy from somewhere in my state, so it shouldn't be a problem as long as I have a little notice to request it. I've never heard of it, but it definitely sounds very intriguing.

For those considering War and Peace as a buddy read next year, as there are already discussion threads for the book it would be easy to join in with your thoughts, no matter what sort of schedule you decide upon. I'm still reading it at the moment and posting my thoughts as I go. As the discussions are broken into several parts it's quite easy to join in with your comments at the end of each section and read previous conversations without spoiling the whole book for yourself. I hope lots of you will give it a try next year, I've been delaying it for years, but it's really quite an easy and interesting read, just a bit long!

Not exactly sure how the Buddy Read works, so here is my best go at it! I am going to start reading Pride and Prejudice sometime (16th-21st I am thinking as a start date). Is anybody interested in reading it with me? Also, could someone explain how Buddy Read works?

You're doing the right thing posting here to see if anyone else is interested in buddy reading with you. If so, you can just decide on a timeframe between yourselves. It only takes two to start a buddy read and you can choose how you want to tackle the book.

If we've read the book before as a group (which we have for P&P) then there will already be discussion threads for it and you can post your thoughts on that thread. If we haven't read as a group then we can make a new buddy read discussion thread for you.

Cool, Luffy. I'll get in touch when I'm close. I love that taking more than 2 months on a book is a novelty for you- our lifestyles must be very different.

Wow, somebody else is interested in this book? It's been on my radar for a while, and I would jump at the chance to read it socially.

On the other hand, life is nuts. So I might not. I'm getting a copy. It will be on my shelf. Like, physically on my shelf next to the bust of a Westie. When you start Darconville's Cat, I promise to read a solid 20 pages of it. Who knows, I might even read the whole thing. Or maybe there will be chaos. Who knows? This book is big and weird, so either I will get into it like Gravity's Rainbow, or it will be a chore like The Master and Margarita. But I'll try, because I've been waiting for a reason to give it a shot.

I have to acknowledge that there is no way I'm getting to LOTR this year even though I bought the book and was super excited to do the quarterly read. I say this because if this happened to anyone else or anyone new joins that wants to tackle LOTR I would love to buddy read this sometime next year. I'm just putting it out there. Well, I am doing War and Peace about early February-ish. So maybe late March? I tend to read really fast and do 3 month reads in about 5 weeks as long as they keep my attention.

I might join in with Le Mort d'Arthur (I need to fill my mythology square and have wanted to familiarize myself with the legend anyway) and War and Peace (probably after I finish Dr. Zhivago).

I'd like to join the Outlander buddy read as well. I have already started it a few months ago (73 pages in - part 1 finished) but I'm having to concentrate on other books in December so probably won't get any further until January so reading with you might help keep me on track.

I recently picked up a really pretty version of Le Mort d'Arthur as well. Sadly not leather bound, but I might pay to have it bound in leather if/when the spine breaks. I'm tempted to join the buddy read, but no promises. I'm not sure I'll get to that book in 2017 at all. :-/

Yeah its not typically mine either but it's got such hype and the book has been stalking me for years so I finally gave in when I was able to pick up the few couple of books in the series cheap. It has been good so far but other books have taken priority as they are group or buddy reads. Looking forward to carrying on reading it with a bit of background support :-)
