Philina | 1085 comments Plainsong sounds really fascinating!

I‘d love to join if
A) i can get the audiobook. On audible.de only books 2 and 3 are available 😱.
B) you are ok with me being slower. In July I‘m on holiday, so I don‘t know if I get any reading done at all. Maybe some at night. I‘m going on a trek and then a road trip with my friends and therefore will be around talkative people 24/7.

We'd love to have you, Philina, if you are able to join. It is fine if you are reading it slowly. I always try to put my comments in spoilers so that slower readers will not have the book ruined if they pop in. I'm sure others will do the same.

Rosemarie | 1567 comments I would be interested in reading Plainsong too, sometime in July.

message 1509: by Anisha Inkspill (last edited Jun 23, 2019 12:31AM) (new)

Anisha Inkspill (anishainkspill) | 498 comments Hi, I’m pencilling in to read the below in the remainder of the year.

If it appeals feel free to join me. Thanks.

In first half of July The Barretts of Wimpole Street play based on life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In second half of July Sonnets From the Portuguese

July - the odyssey Walter Shewring (Translator)
Sept - the odyssey translation Emily Wilson
Nov - Ulysses Joyce, the short version

update
I've just realised it's not obvious I don't mind if you read different versions / translations of Odyssey or Joyce's Ulysses.

Yes, I'd go along with whatever anyone decides.
Two years ago (or three?) I was in a group which did all six JAs- a book a month, a chapter per day, with a month off between books. It was a great experience.

Not to tell you what to do -- but I'd start with Pride and Prejudice if I were you (and I've read all 6). It's just a good taste of Jane Austen, a good starting point, and the most referred to of all her books. Thereafter, I don't think it matters much which ones you read. They're all good! But I'm voting for you to start with P&P! ;)

Here are the threads for discussing Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Just a reminder that we do not start new threads for buddy reads, but use the existing ones from past group reads. As a buddy read, you might just want to use the thread for the entire book, but that is up to you. Please still use spoilers in the correct threads.

Catch_22: NO Spoilers
Catch_22:Background Information-Spoilers
Catch_22: Chapters 1 -10 ~ Spoilers
Catch_22: Chapters 11-20 ~ Spoilers
Catch_22: Chapters 21-30 ~ Spoilers
Catch_22: Book as a Whole ~ Spoilers

Whenever you are ready to read Mansfield Park let me know a week ahead and I can probably join you. It's a longer book, so I will take some time to get through it.

message 1537: by Christopher (new)

Christopher (Donut) | 140 comments I guess Mansfield Park is not the best place to start, but if you or we read P/P in August-September, there would still be time to do MP in October-November.

As I said, I will go along with whatever the group decides.

Pink | 5491 comments Newly wrote: "well the links attached are not loading to the above folders using the app. I am looking for the discussions but those seem to by writer last name and I can't find the one for Heller. please advise"

I’ve checked the links that Katy and I posted and they’re working ok. I don’t know if this is a problem with the app, as I use the desktop site on my phone. I’ll include the link to all Catch 22 discussions again here https://www.goodreads.com/group/comme...

If you want to search for a particular discussion, you can use the search bar (top right of the home page) and then filter for ‘only topics’ which will find all the threads with that title. Again, I don’t know if this works in the app, or if you’ll need to switch to the desktop site.

Otherwise if you manually search through our discussions, Catch 22 will be under the New School classics folder.

I don't have a specific book in mind, but I would like a buddy to read with. I'm thinking we could pick a book from my classics shelf or yours, then we would read so many chapters a day, discuss them, and repeat until the book was done. Here is the link to my shelf:

I'd be up for: Frankenstein, Hutchback of Notre Dame, War and Peace, The Three Musketeers, or Kidnapped.

message 1549: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome Adrian! Thank you. I've already read Frankenstein - sorry I didn't take that off my shelf before - so let's read Kidnapped. I'll start a discussion board for it.

We read Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson and have a discussion thread already in the group. Please use that thread for your buddy read. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have deleted the thread that you started.
