John the Hollow Crown episodes are productions of the Shakespearan plays. So you have a good start there.

@Cynda, do you mean The Bevington Shakespeare? That one's been on my wishlist for so long, but it's really expensive. Bevington was a great scholar.

@John I'm actually now writing my thesis on Richard II and The Hollow Crown. Yes, they are direct adaptations of the play, really well done (I've only seen the first three so far), but Ben Wishaw as Richard II is something else!

Minnie I buy used books to do a tiny thing for Earth and to bring my costs sometimes way down. I bought this copy at local used bookstore on a day when they had a 20% off sale. To the used bookstore, I say: Open Open Open.

I had a Riverside way back when I was at uni, but book mold got in it. And now I prefer Bevington. So okay, I accept.

Yes, I've heard that the older editions (I think the most recent one is #4) can be had for as little as 10€/$/etc., which is a significant difference from the original 100€. I buy my used books via a dedicated web shop and have notifications set up for a couple of ISBNs, unfortunately none of the compelete works of the Bard that I've narrowed my search on are on sale at the moment. Riverside is on that list as well, but I think I'll go with the 2nd edition of the Norton Shakespeare, because they finally parted from the awful texts as edited by Oxford, and they include a code for the electronic supplements (audiovisual material, etc.).
I'd love to just go browsing through market stalls like in the movies, but a) I don't have the patience and b) I now buy my books for life and am consequently extremely picky about the specific edition of a work (especially with classics that need a lot of apparatus) and the condition of the book.

Funny! I'm actually reading it as well, but not enjoying it. He mines Shakespeare's sparse biography way deeper than it can support his theories, or perhaps I just can't suspend my scepticism and disbelief enough to just enjoy the ride. In any case, I'm stuck around half-way and try to read a chapter a day, but it's more of a completionist task now than a real pleasure read.

I'd love to! Weirdly I haven't read it yet, but the "group therapy at Wuthering Heights" scenes from the Thursday Next series seem very promising!

I have to start it by today or tomorrow because It's due back to the library in 5 days.

This would be a re-read for me, but I think I remember that we talked about it, and I would love to re-read it because it's been many years and then I can go on to the sequel. If I can find the book, I'll join. Such a good one!

I wish I did, Brina. I happened to have picked up a copy at a library sale pre-virus. I'm sorry you can't join--I've been missing out on group reads for the same reason, so understand your frustration.

I'll be reading some variation of Poe's complete works in the near future. If people are interested in joining me, I can wait up until June to start, maybe even July if I'm wildly underestimating my remaining challenge reading cumulative page count. I'm sure this group already has a board for it somewhere, so I'll track that down when it becomes necessary to do so.

That's my thought too Brina. I was looking for bilingual edition even if I had to pay a bit more. No Luck. I will read online. I will enjoy better if I can read in Spanish, so I will try that first. The last week of May is good. June even better. But either way.

I am still in for No Name. I dropped it because I couldn’t concentrate on big books, I will definitely continue if a buddy read is arranged.
