message 1701: by Brina (new)

Brina Yay! I plan on reading all three. I got from thrift books and that’s my new place to get books from until the libraries open.

message 1702: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5197 comments I am in for Martin Fierro on June 1.

message 1703: by Brina (new)

Brina Great!

Normally, if it's not a group read, I like to start in the second half of the month if that's okay.

message 1705: by Brina (new)

Brina I haven’t planned my July yet but that’s fine with me. I like to alternate fiction and nonfiction so I’ll just schedule buddy reads in this group for the second half of the month.

message 1706: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5197 comments I can put iff starting by about a week. That might help actually. And I will take my time. I will make a fair-to-good attempt to read in the Spanish.

I anticipate that East of Eden will win the Revisit the Shelf poll. I just purchased a kindle version to be prepared.

message 1708: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) I agree that East of Eden will probably win, but would anyone be interested in a Three Musketeers buddy read?

message 1709: by Minnie (new)

Minnie (minniesmiscellanies) I'd love to, but don't know if I'll have the time in June. But let me put in a word for the new Ellsworth translation of the main novel and all its sequels, it's worth the extra expense!

Allison | 55 comments Adrian wrote: "I agree that East of Eden will probably win, but would anyone be interested in a Three Musketeers buddy read?"

If it was like July or August...

message 1711: by Minnie (new)

Minnie (minniesmiscellanies) In that case I'd like to join as well! :)

I'd be fine with that, actually.

message 1713: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments I would like to start Three Musketeers in July
so joining in a buddy read would be great :o)

message 1714: by Alexw (new)

Alexw | 81 comments July will be perfect for me for Three Musketeers to buddy read-my copy was printed in 1953 !!

message 1715: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) Sounds like a plan then :)

I might join in, too.

message 1717: by Philina (new)

Philina | 1085 comments Who wanted to read A Thousand Acres with me in the second half of the year?
I remember I talked to somebody about it...

It wasn't me you talked to but I would like to, I have it in my to-read list and would like to add to my life-list of Pulitzers, now at 33. Can you send me a message when you're close?

message 1719: by Philina (new)

Philina | 1085 comments Wonderful, George! I'm reading the Pulitzers, too.

I'm extremely flexible and wanted to wait for the person whom I talked to to tell me when it would suit him or her.

Cynda and I are planning a read of The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton beginning on July 27th...just in case anyone would like to join us.

Sara (phantomswife) | 9416 comments Mod
Pink, I set up a thread for The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton. We won't be reading until late July, but I thought I would ask you to put it on the schedule whenever you think it appropriate.

message 1722: by Philina (new)

Philina | 1085 comments For our A Thousand Acres buddy read we are waiting for the end of the August polls. This way, all the people who voted for the book can join in as well.

message 1723: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments Brina, have you already read Ramona? I´d otherwise be interested, but not before August.

message 1724: by Brina (new)

Brina Michaela, I have the book and can read when it’s convenient for others. Right now I’m mainly reading contemporary fiction as it’s all I can handle.

message 1725: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments Thanks! Just tell me if or when you want to read it! :)

message 1726: by Brina (new)

Brina Good to know. I’ll see what’s going on in a month and let you know. I’m sticking to light reading now just to stay fresh and I’ll let you know soon enough.

Terris | 4387 comments Brina wrote: "Good to know. I’ll see what’s going on in a month and let you know. I’m sticking to light reading now just to stay fresh and I’ll let you know soon enough."

Brina, I also remember talking with you about reading "Ramona" sometime this summer or fall. I will agree to putting it off for a couple of months too. I have not been reading anything heavy either. But am just starting to feel the urge to read something a little more substantial. I'll just wait to see the Buddy Read request come up and join in. Whenever is fine with me :)

message 1728: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments I agree about reading lighter literature at first, but trying other books too. Looking ahead to whenever we´ll read this! :)

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments Pink - please could you put Three Musketeers on the schedule list for July

I assume we will just use the existing group "Alexandre Dumas Collection" threads and add to the discussions there:

message 1731: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari | 246 comments I would love to join you for The Three Musketeers but I am reading The Count of Monte Cristo with two groups and enjoying Dumas writing very much so maybe I will join all sometime later.

I just happened to buy a copy of A Fine Balance: Drama. Just wondering if this is the same book you were planning to read?

message 1733: by Darren (last edited Jun 26, 2020 03:08AM) (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments Nidhi - re Three Musketeers - I personally am scheduling it as a Quarterly Long Read i.e. over more than just July - potentially into August and September too!
don't know about the other buddy readers

message 1734: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari | 246 comments Then I will definitely join you in this read. I don’t have problem in reading two works by same author simultaneously, I have already done that with Dickens and Hardy but both books should have difference in their timeline ( beginning, plot development, ending).
I have reached 40% with Monte Cristo.

message 1735: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments I´m interested in The Three Musketeers too, but cannot join before the end of July.

message 1736: by Brina (new)

Brina I’m not doing any buddy reads here until at least back to school time so I apologize. I’m only really reading contemporary fiction and lite nonfiction at the moment to tide me through these months.

message 1737: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4387 comments No problem! I have plenty of other things to read :)

Agree! :)

message 1743: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) I'd be good with a Quarterly Long Read with Three Musketeers. There's no reason to make it a July-only read.

message 1744: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 149 comments I’d like to read The Three Musketeers as well! I’ve got some other big reads going on tho, but if it’s a quarterly read, I could that.

I'm slowly reading War and Peace and loving it. Would love to discuss this in the fall.
