Candi and I are planning to read Let Me Tell You About a Man I Knew starting June 15th. If you haven't read Fletcher, she is a "don't miss" author for me. Anyone who is interested is more than welcome to join us!

Really looking forward to this! Not a week goes by that I don't think about Corrag!

Wonderful, Terry. Please do!

I know, and The Silver Dark Sea comes to my mind quite a lot as well. I'm hoping this one is just as good!

And, I was one of those friends, who was eternally grateful to have been urged. I had a little trouble finding a copy (turns out it is available under more than one name) and I got The Silver Dark Sea and read it first. Immediately in love with this author. I now read her every chance I get.

Well, Sara, from your mouth to my ears -- or eyes! -- I just bought [book:The Silver Dark Sea for $1.99 from Amazon. If you like that author so much, then she's on the top of my list! I'll let you know what I think ;)

Let Me Tell You About a Man I Knew will begin on the 15th, Terry. I'm expecting it will be an easy read for us, Fletcher generally is. I will also be doing Fair Land, Fair Land, so we will be in the same boat there.
A View of the Harbour is not until July.

Anne, terrific to have you along!
Lily - I do hope you will find the time. I know about moves, having recently made one myself!

That is fine, Terris. We will start out with The Aspern Papers in August and The Wings of the Dove as a longer read afterward. Probably need to make them two separate reads, so those interested in just doing the shorter work, The Aspern Papers, will not be confused or think they are committing to both books.

I would also be interested, though reading Booker longlist commitments may interfere. Participation in the Portrait of a Lady read was strong despite some negative comments about the book. Perhaps we should nominate Wings of a Dove for September.

Sounds good!

Thank you Sara :)
I don't have a definite date yet, nor a flat. So everything is still a little unpredictable ...
As Dove seems to be oriented more september-ish, I'm hoping I can fit it in after my move ...
Good luck with it, Lily. I hope you find what you need and get settled quickly. It is terrible when the move just seems to drag on forever and you have no feeling that you have "home".

Our best chance to get Wings of the Dove as a group read would probably be to nominate it for 4th quarter long read. if it doesn't win we could still start in in Sept if we want. I'm good with starting it in Sept or October

Hi, Anne. Aspern Papers is slated for August.

Thanks Sue. :))

I read this last year, but I'd like to follow the discussion. This is a great book.
I think that Elizabeth Taylor is so underrated.

If a mod could please tell us if we should use the existing threads?

Yes, please always use existing threads for buddy reads. There are several threads for War and Peace - you might want to look and decide if you wish to use all of them, or just a selection for your buddy read.

I’m fine with using whatever threads. What do you think would work best Michaela?
On a side note, I compared a lot of translations and read a lot of reviews before picking one. I ended up going with Briggs translation from Penguin. It’s a more recent translation and it’s very easy to read. I’m loving it!

Yes, I would love to join. I own two copies and have been wanting to read. I don’t think either one is the Briggs translation, but hopefully one of them is a good one!
Edit: turns out one is the Briggs and the other is the P&V.

Regarding the threads, they´re very detailed, so we can only use those, but I´d like to read one volume per month, and one month for the epilogue. I suggest everyone uses the threads for those parts she has already read. Hope that´s okay.
And welcome Candace to the buddy read! Everyone else who wants to join us is welcome too! :)
