Pia | 58 comments Hi!
A question recently came up in a group, here in GR and I need help sorting it out.

It is about original publication dates. The book in question is The Yellow Wallpaper and Selected Writings

This edition was published in 2009, but the stories were published between 1890 and 1915.

However, other books have the original publication year added, even if the content was published in different years
Examples:

The Importance of Being Earnest and Other Plays
The plays were written/performed between 1892 and 1895, but here in GR it says first published 1895.

Five Plays: Ivanov / The Seagull / Uncle Vanya / The Three Sisters / The Cherry Orchard
Ivanov 1887, The Seagull 1885, Uncle Vanya 1897, The Three Sisters 1900 and The Cherry Orchard 1904.
However, GR says the book was originally published in 1887.

Other examples:
The Yellow Wallpaper and Other Stories
A Modest Proposal and Other Satirical Works

I'm quite confused as when the "originally published" year should be added (or not)

Thanks!

Then the original pub date should be 1915.

Pia | 58 comments So I can add this date? Even if the introduction was written in 2009?

Yes.

Pia | 58 comments And also, for the Chekhov book, the publishing date is wrong? As the last play is from 1904

And for Oscar Wilde it shows the correct year?

lethe | 16359 comments Yes, Chekhov should be 1904 and Wilde is correct.
