CATEGORY: Biography RATING: *****= one of my favorite books! Loved it! DATES READ: November 27th- December 14th SUMMARY: Louis Zamperini, was a track star in the olympics. His brother helped him as a child and his dad wasn't very supportive of Louis. He was called out to war in the Air Force and his plane crashed in the middle of the ocean. One of his friends died on the craft bit him and the other survived but were captured by people of japan. They were put into camps and beaten and starved almost to death. Surprisingly, after all the pain and suffrage he went through, his family thinking he was dead, the war ended and he was able to go home. He needed up working in the coal mine with his dad then continued with his olympic career, PERSONAL REASCTION: To me, this book was a huge eye opener on what people had to go through during world war II. It was an amazing book. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like and Louie is strong. Its crazy that he made it through it all alive. For example when him and two other guys were in the middle of the ocean, and drank a birds blood that they caught with their hands. Obviously it made them sick, but they were so hungry and dehydrated that they didn't really have any other options. I really enjoyed it and would consider reading it again. It goes into depth and makes you realize the reality of the war.
