I am loving this! Jace is hilarious! Isabelle is a great side female character. (view spoiler)[ Church seems adorable! I want to hug him every time he comes on the scene. Clary isn't being us moody as she was in the beginning. I am currently on Chapter 12 Dead Man's Party (hide spoiler)]

What part are you on, Amber? I am now on Chapter 14. I agree Jace is great. I didn't like him at first but I am currently Team Jace for Clary. How about you? I love Isabelle. Not a huge fan of Alec, but he isn't a Simon fan, like me currently. Have you seen a Shadowhunter preview or do you not want to get spoiled?

Oh dear...Top of chapter 10. I haven't seen any previews yet but I don't mind being spoiled.

The show is different than the book. I prefer the book's plot more. If you do watch the first episode DON'T watch the last 2 minutes because it will I think spoil the whole book. When I realized after it was doing that I muted my television and looked away.

I am on Chapter 17. These spoilers are for Chapters 13-17. (view spoiler)[ Simon gets himself into a heap of trouble in Chapters 13-16. I can't believe he thought nothing would happen drinking something weird at the party. At first I blamed Isabelle for letting him, then I figured that was Simon's decision.

I love that vampires and werewolves are in this series. One of my favorite genres is Paranormal Fantasy. I totally guessed that Raphael was a vampire before Clary did! I can't believe Alec only blamed Clary for Jace almost getting killed! How about the guy that got himself turned into a rat to begin with!

I guess Jace is taking Clary to a more peaceful and romantic spot after their adventure last night. (hide spoiler)]

I prefer the book. I like the plot more, and the dialogue of all the characters in the book. I think Jace is more hilarious in the book. Plus in the first episode you see what Jocelyn, Clary's mother's , relationship is with Valentine. I loved getting shocked in Chapter 9 instead.


I also like the Clary version that is in my mind from when the Mortal Instruments was a movie. Lily Collins played Clary. The show Clary is great, but I like Lily Collins version of her better.

Good to know. Side note: I imagine the silent brothers are similar the gentleman in Buffy. Not sure if anyone watches Buffy

Matter of fact the whole book so far is giving me Buffyverse vibes which is awesome

Cool thread. I really enjoyed City of Bones. Just finished last week, but haven't gotten around to writing a review.

I thought it was kind of creepy where the title came from in the book. :-)

Just began to read City of Bones.

I really love this series although it didn't blow my mind from the first book. It took time for me to fall in love with this world and characters.

Yeah. I'm having a hard time getting into the books.

@Riss if you are having a hard time getting into the the Mortal Instruments books, I would recommend read the Infernal Devices trilogy first. That is what I did, and I fell in love with the first book, within 3 chapters. I still think that I will love TID more than TMI even if I manage to continue this series.

Is Infernal Devices set in the same story world? Or is it just a different set of stories that you like better?

In answer to your question, Patricia, The Infernal Devices, is set in the same Shadowhunter world that The Mortal Instruments is. The exceptions are that The Infernal Devices is set in 1878 London while The Mortal Instruments is set in around 2008 New York. Along with different sets of characters in each series.
The Infernal Devices is a prequel to the Mortal Instruments.

I finished City of Bones this afternoon. When you all are finished we could discuss it if you want.

I'm still chugging through it. Grrr work keeps getting in the way but I think if I get the prequel it'll help me feel more connected to their world. I think I'll watch the show when I'm done with the book to see how it matches up so far

Sorry you didn't like it, @Riss. @Amber the 2nd episode in the Shadowhunter show is better than the first one. Don't feel bad if you just want to watch the show. I had been meaning to continue reading the series after loving the first one. I couldn't even get half way through the second book. I will now just watch the show.

I had a hard time with this one as well Riss. I don't know why but i couldn't get interested at all. I did finish the first one but that's as far as it went.

I am just starting the 3rd book on audio. Books 2 and 3 are better than one. Get a bit more interesting and a lot more action filled.

It took me a little longer to get into , but by around page 200 onward I was sold.

I am only on , but I do think that the books get better. Plus we are introduced to new characters which I think is great, so you won't get bored with only the characters from .

For me, when I first read City of Bones, I had never read anything like this and just loved everything about it.

Now...I did love The Infernal Devices Sylvia. Totally different IMO.

I think the characters drew us into TID. I for one absolutely invested my whole heart and soul to them with Will being one of my fav book characters of all time…sigh!! The tears I shed *sniffs*
