To start off I really enjoyed this book. I'm not really into reading these types of books i'm more of a war/crime books type of person but this book really surprised me. After complaining in class one day, my teacher told me to try this book out and I thought, I would never read a book recommended by my teacher, because I thought we would have two completely different reading styles but i was definitely wrong.

The book starts off talking about how the main character Ryan Dean West is just about to receive a swirlie and his thoughts about it. The way the book is written is definitely easy for a junior or senior in high school to read. Ryan Dean is a 14 year old Junior who skipped a couple of grades because he is a very smart kid and plays on the rugby team. Ryan is just starting his Junior year but now he is going to be in O-hall where all the delinquents are. He

got put in O-hall for owning a cell phone while at this boarding school. So now little harmless Ryan Dean has to be with all of the students who don't care about school and he is scared of what is going to come out of this. Just like every other highschool story, Ryan has a girl he loves named Annie but she sees him only as a friend and thinks he's “cute” in the best friend type of way. The book held my attention from start to finish. Towards the end of the book, things start to get pretty sad and will have the reader feeling sad as well.

` Would I recommend this book you ask? Without a doubt this book, really made me realize what kind of books i'm into. I will most likely look into more Andrew Smith books because I really enjoyed his writing and see myself liking more books written by him. This book was such an easy read because it's entertaining and you can always connect with parts of the book. as of now, this book is most likely on my top 5 favorite books and I strongly suggest you read this as well.

It's great that you found a book out of your interest that you enjoyed. I was apprehensive as well getting into the book, I thought it would be the same old boy like a girl, girl doesn't like boy, boy plays a sport sparking the girls interest, and girl falls for boy. The book definitely was not like that, I couldn't put it down I enjoyed it so much. This type of boy made me realize I like the teenage boy mischief type of genre. I mean, yeah I'll read the typical girl love story every once in a while, but this type of book really makes my reading list more exciting. I would recommend as well.
