What a good idea !
I came across this : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnle...
David Bowie play his own role on an episode of Extras, a sitcom written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Hilarious!
(2007)

Cynthia, thank you so much for all the amazing material you have been sharing... Keep them coming...

The Extras video was the first thing that made me laugh after Bowie's death... It is just incredible! Loved the great relationship David had with Ricky...

Tonight I went with a friend to a special screening of Labyrinth... While watching the movie, I started to wonder what happened to Toby. Coincidently when I got home I saw this on Facebook...

This brings back memories... When David was popping up just before and after the evening news on TV.

Bowie as an actor. As a mime. This is excellent. And a glimpse into this genius' mind and what was yet to come.

My friend Greg and I just talked about the film in our recent episode of the Bowie Book Club Podcast when we were talking about Lolita. Bowie even said he thought that the film had a Lolita theme. ugh! I did NOT think about that as a kid, but now I can see it.

Samanta (almacubana) | 183 comments I don't think I agree with Bowie on this. There might have been some attraction from the side of the Goblin King, but I understood it as a way of manipulation. Although....

But, there was no attraction whatsoever from the side of the girl, while, to me, Lolita was equally as disturbing and demented as Humbert.

What do you think?

The Reading Bibliophile | 564 comments Mod
I agree with Samanta. There is no comparison to be made with Lolita (sorry David for disagreeing ;-) In Lolita, there's a third character who is as demented as the other two: Lolita's mother.

Samanta (almacubana) | 183 comments Totally forgot about Lolita's mother. I wonder what incentive Nabokov had to write such a story. Was he trying to shed a light on a concerning matter, or were those his own thoughts and desires put to paper? Anyone have any information?

There is a biography of his wife I put to my TBR list a while ago. I wonder if it holds any juicy information.

Kristianne | 14 comments In this footage of Nabokov he insists he didn't mean anything by the story. But Lionel Trilling says: "You can't trust a creative writer to say what he HAS done, he can say what he MEANT to do, even though we don't have to believe him."
