They're probably a bit too urban, although there is no reason why they cannot develop the idea

"Although the application of artificial insemination is comparatively new, the concept is old. There is evidence that the method was known and perhaps used by Arab horse breeders about 1300 A. D. However,
the first authentic account of its use in mammals was by an Italian,
Spallanzani, who successfully inseminated a bitch about 1780. This
result was confirmed in 1782 by Pierre Eossi, who took the special
precaution of keeping the bitch under lock and key throughout the
entire heat period. "

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I did think it had been around a while, not that long though.

message 459: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I remember reading about the Arab stuff (which might have been in Arab Spain) a long time ago in the world before internet :-)

Pierre Eossi I'd never heard of

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I didn't even know about the arabs.

I did wonder when I write AI if you would think I was talking about Artificial Intelligence, but then I remembered that you were a farmer, and would know what I meant :) And I seriously doubt they would be in to robotics!

message 461: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I never even thought about artificial intelligence until I tried using google to find the quote I wanted :-)

Jim | 21809 comments And a posh title to stretch the erudite

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments erudite? isn't that a type of adhesive?

You're thinking of 'Stick to them like glue' Harold Ite, who played fullback for Hamilton Academicals back in the 40s.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments It that the Harold Ite who wouldn't move away from the goalposts? And when they forced him to, the goalposts came with him? Hence originating the phase 'He's always moving the goalposts'.

the very same, which meant that the referees insisted that if he moved at all it was along the goal line

Somebody wrote a song about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHF9i...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And he was also very fond of hot curries, So he got the nickname 'Ring of Fire'.

message 468: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments named his son Sue didn't he?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes, and his son sued him for emotional damage...

Funnily enough Tallis has just written something about being out of touch and not understanding modern stuff, I'll have to get it posted at some point :-)

Jim | 21809 comments And a meeting with Lady Bountiful

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I always think 'Lady Bouncycastle' when I see that phrase.

message 473: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments which in turn might encourage a chap to ask if the lady was suitably pneumatic!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I hear she has a mean right hook, and a lack of patience with rude questions...

Jim | 21809 comments One of the pictures I decided not to use for the adventures of Tallis Steelyard

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments A wise decision.

message 477: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments There is only so much my readers could cope with

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And Tallis knows to avoid a lady who can fell a man with a punch.

message 479: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments there's a fair few of them about. He mixes with a lot of dangerous ladies.

remember https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments yes, but I kind of doubt that the lady in the picture is an Urlan knight.

message 481: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I tend to agree with you :-)

Jim | 21809 comments After Lady Bountiful, the Modern Woman!

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hah, that idiot would be terrified if faced with a modern woman! He would probably wet his cream coloured breeches.

message 484: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments a serious problem for the younger and more impressionable male

But a mature poet takes it all in his stride

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And knows when not to wear cream coloured breeches!

message 487: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Absolutely
Brown corduroy serves well enough in most circumstances!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And hides the odd mud splatter. Or worse...

message 489: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments absolutely, elegant under even the most trying circumstances!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Whereas Mr Butterdrawers above would have a massive laundry bill.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments *shivers*

message 494: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments wrap yourself in the blanket that's lying across the chair behind you

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Wait. Blanket?

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Excellent, Jim!

I've been wondering if there's a story to how Tallis and Shena met? Or have I missed that?
