Jim | 21809 comments And even Tallis is giving away the free book

although to be fair in his blog it's a free story every time!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Tallis? Give away? Free??

message 505: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I tell you, it were like pulling teeth!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments So he is now Toothless Steelyard?

message 507: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Well he might have lapsed into more bitter and cynical

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And him such a trusting soul up to now....

message 509: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments absolutely, he has people to be cynical for him

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You mean Mutt.

message 511: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Amongst others, Shena has been known to raise the occasional eyebrow as well

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Tallis, as this is a festive season, I feel it incumbent upon me to introduce the Scion of the House to your works in the hope that they may persuade him to favour the more subtle pleasures of literature.

I have to admit that I have 'Shower me with gold and other stories' in mind.

However, before I do so, I wonder if you would be kind enough to recommend a longer work, even if by another whom you may feel your equal in wielding the noble pen, featuring your friend Benor? I believe this will allow our son and heir to grasp more firmly the nature of a Toelan roof-runner, and place Benor into sufficient context for his role to be more fully appreciated in your narrative.

Lest you fall into the belief that this some sort of trickery, a ruse to gaze upon your autograph written in your own (I have no doubt) fair hand, pray allow me to reassure you that no such motive has crossed my mind. I wish merely to divert the eyes of Youth away from the gore-covered anti-hero who, surely, deserves No Good End, and am prepared to loosen the matriarchal purse strings accordingly.

I remain, as ever, a distant admirer.

Jim | 21809 comments If you wish to introduce family and friends to Benor, then it depends entirely on whether they would wish to purchase paperbacks or instead read e-books.

For paperbacks, Benor features in Swords for a Dead Lady and Dead man riding East

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Swords-Dead-...

and

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Man-Rid...

(The other two paperbacks are set in the same world at the same time but concern unpleasant episodes that Benor somehow managed to avoid getting caught up in. Doubtless in spite of his best efforts. )

If you want to follow Benor on e-book, then the same two books are available. But also there are the 99p shorts

The Cartographer's Apprentice: Leave Them Wanting More gets a younger Benor from Home to the gates (metaphorically speaking) of Port Naain

Flotsam or Jetsam introduces me to the world, and of course mentions more of Benor's adventures, fortunately nothing too sordid.
The Port Naain Intelligencer collection continues from there but can be read in any order

Jim | 21809 comments oh and Tallis is dealing with Lady Philosophers

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Has he got good thick protective clothing?

message 516: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I've been looking to buy him a hard hat and a good thick padded jacket

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments This is probably not what he needs...

message 518: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments the padding is in the wrong place to be honest

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes. And gold sequins? Tacky....

message 520: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments certainly not what I'd call appropriate for a serious poet

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments What is standard poeting dress then?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments This is Domenico Fetti - 1588 to 1623

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Did he stick his quill into an electrical socket?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Either that or he was at a party last night and overdid the wine.

message 525: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think he's supposed to be wearing a laurel wreath?

Anyway fruit punch would set him up nicely

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments By those dates he died at the age of 35. He looks a bit older than that in the photo.

message 527: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments apparently he was a painter, that was probably the problem

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Google told me he was a poet! Someone doesn't know the difference....

And his head was the brush...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Basil Brush?

message 531: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Obviously one cannot accept responsibility for the sartorial failings of those practicing the lesser arts

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Lesser arts? Oh, you mean Basil Brush...

message 533: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments or Rolf Harris?

message 534: by Jim (new)

message 535: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments And of course the joys of a walk by starlight

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

message 536: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments And perhaps your past will find you out?

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments *Shudder*

message 538: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments but a lady like shudder I trust

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I don't really do lady-like. I do Ginger-like.

message 540: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments can Ginger shudder?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh yes. She can also judder and do various other shaking motions. Just not in a lady-like fashion.

Jim | 21809 comments Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Oh yes. She can also judder and do various other shaking motions. Just not in a lady-like fashion."

I imagine not. Or rather I'm trying not to imagine.....

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Better leave the imagining to Tallis. He can cope with it.

message 544: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments That's true, he's a poet and built for it

message 546: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments It does appear that the editor in question actually read Tallis' work thoroughly? Unlike some... ; )

message 547: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes, he's a good editor :-)

message 548: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments An author interview, with Will MacMillan-Jones no less!

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Will sure can waffle with the best of them!

message 550: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments but poetically, and with feeling :-)
