Nope; he would never insult a potential patron.

message 703: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Life is too short to insult potential patrons. I suspect they all have excellent memories :-)

Not after they have been drinking wine with Tallis!

message 705: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments well that probably largely depends on the quality of wine that they're buying. If they serve rubbish they can hardly complain at unfortunate side effects

Jim | 21809 comments job interviewing skills called for :-)

Jim | 21809 comments Big hair and an elegant leg

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh for the days when men had to suffer as much as women to look good!

message 709: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Whereas nowadays I look good with careless ease.......

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jim wrote: "Whereas nowadays I look good with careless ease......."

Just a matter of getting clean baling twine... ;)

absolutely, available in three tasteful colours!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And one loud, tasteless one.

message 713: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments ah but it weathers into a most delicate primrose if left out in the sun for a year or so, and also can end up a must beautiful pale green if it spends a winter in slurry as well :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I wonder if the slurry treatment will end up being the new fashion craze...

message 715: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I wandered into our local agricultural engineers many years ago to buy a new pair of working jeans.
The lass behind the counter asked me what sort I'd like, so I just said "A pair like those I'm wearing."
(They were clean on that morning so were clean.)

So looked at them and said doubtfully, "I don't think we have any in that colour."

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Sludge green?

message 717: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Actually it was rather a pleasant if 'washed out' colour. The jeans had faded to pale blue and the green hadn't darkened. To be honest if you could replicate to colour from new they'd probably sell to people who didn't know :-)

message 718: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments and a little something which shows how well things work when you leave them to Mutt

https://workingtitleblogspot.wordpres...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hooray for Mutt!

message 720: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Now with three pairs of boots to sell, one careful owner, only used them for going to church...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Mutt will be a millionaire before he is 15!

message 722: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments one pair of boots at a time :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I can see him becoming a respected 2nd hand dealer.

message 724: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments wheeler dealer

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Whatever You Want, Mutt Can Get It.

message 726: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments And perhaps even for a price you're willing to pay

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments He's cutting his own throat...

message 728: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments he probably knows people who can do that for him

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jim wrote: "he probably knows people who can do that for him"

He would do well in Ankh Morpork

message 730: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I suspect he'd thrive in any big city. I remember a Newcastle Lawyer advising a client. Somebody owed the client serious money and showed no sign of paying. The client was told, "For £2000 you could make him bankrupt, or in this city for £200 you could get him seriously beaten up"

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Nah - he's much too well spoken and honest for Dublin.

message 732: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments to be sure, but he'd fit right in
But probably as a politician rather than an overt criminal

message 733: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I've often felt that I would make an excellent poet in residence, but after hearing this tale I beg leave to doubt

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I didn't realise that being a poet would involve climbing ropes and wet rocks!

I suspect that if you're a wealthy poet you have people to do that for you.

message 736: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Isn't 'wealthy poet' an oxymoron?

message 737: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Alicia wrote: "Isn't 'wealthy poet' an oxymoron?"

I suspect that if you start off independently wealthy and marry well, you can remain a wealthy poet

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Q. How do you make a million as a writer?

A. Start off with 2 million.

message 739: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments something like that
Just keep writing away 'til it's all gone ;-)

message 740: by Jim (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments There may have been a trifle too much alcohol involved.

message 742: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It did occur to me that Tallis was doing his best to keep people busy and trying to stop them bumping into each other. Pouring drink into them can work for a while
But can obviously go wrong as well

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Its a delicate line to tread, that!

message 744: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments and ought to be done under strict supervision. There is a limit to how many excitable ladies a chap should attempt to pour strong drink into at any one time

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments The Dance of The Excitable Ladies!

message 746: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Indeed, perhaps rather more sedate than the dance of the over-excitable ladies?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments They all fall in a heap at the end of that one!

message 748: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments normally covered in custard and cream!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh I think I've done that one!
