Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Excellent story Jim. I knew Tallis would come through on the scuttlebutt.

message 903: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I was a bit worried there was too much background to scuttlebutt

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well there was a fair bit of background all right, but it didn't bother me.

message 905: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Well I tried to keep it as seen through the eyes of Tallis

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Told as he is sitting in a comfortable chair with a bottle of good wine and a circle of admiring listeners.

message 907: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments is there another way to tell a story? :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Around a campfire at night roasting hot dogs?

message 909: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Around a campfire at night roasting hot dogs?"

that would be a very different sort of story.
Probably involves less social sophistication and more wild men or beasties offering physical violence

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Or young boys telling scary ghost stories.

message 911: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes that's the other one
I think the ambiance demands a different sort of tale

message 912: by Gingerlily - The Full Wild (last edited Nov 23, 2017 11:17AM) (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I struggle to picture Tallis roasting hotdogs on a campfire, even though I'm sure he has done his share of that.

This is slightly more him, but still not right...

This, but with wine...

Still not quite right...

message 913: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments the first two work for me.
The third one isn't really Port Naain, or at least not this century

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Maybe its one of the backward hinterland towns...

Jim | 21809 comments Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Maybe its one of the backward hinterland towns..."

They may be the formal robes worn by the students at the Magistrorum of Meor

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ah yes, it does look rather universityish.

message 917: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments out of touch and over paid ? :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And taking themselves ever so seriously.

message 919: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments far far too seriously :-)

message 920: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments And one for the teachers amongst us :-)

message 921: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments And another for teachers, plus one of the pictures got used :-)

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Excellent. Although your first paragraph seems to have suffered a copy and paste accident!

message 923: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments yes I've hopefully fixed it. I was trying to be too clever, using a dropped Cap for the first letter and it came out a right bog

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ah yes, that looks fine now :)

message 925: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes I went back and manually deleted a lot of stuff that had been duplicated
teach me to be too clever for my own good!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I wonder if Sal could learn to be a proof reader...?

message 927: by Jim (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments She looks totally disgusted. Like someone made her read Donald Trump's tweets!

message 929: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments dogs rarely get involved in politics
It's an evolutionary thing, they've got past it

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Could I put in a request to be changed into a dog?

message 931: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I sometimes feel the word should be 'promoted' rather than 'changed' :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments It has to be earned then?

message 933: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I assume so but I've never worked up the courage to ask.....

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You don't want 'the look'. I understand.

message 935: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments too right!

message 936: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

a special sort of literature

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but your first paragraph is effed up again!

message 938: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments because the dropped cap was sort of important in the story, I thought I'd make a special effort and try and get it in, but it just screws things up in so many different ways you wouldn't believe!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Never drop your cap, specially where the cows have been...

message 940: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments yes, essential wisdom ;-)

message 941: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments The joys of elegant travel!

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I probably would have been more comfortable in a sedan chair yesterday rather than a full Service Longus flight (that's what automeddle made out of Aer Lingus).

message 943: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Might even have been faster if you'd tipped your chairmen :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Can they swim though?

the chairs can be sailed but I wouldn't advise it
