Pip | 1822 comments I cannot comment sensibly about this because I cannot buy into the idea of the hotel as a sentient entity. Children often have imaginary friends and to begin with the idea seemed plausible, but the last appearance of Tony appeared as farce to me.

Paula S (paula_s) | 220 comments Danny was a small child when his psychic ability start and he doesn't realize that it is he himself who can glimps the future, so he makes up an imaginary friend who can do that, the same way ordinary children get imaginary friends. By blocking Tony Overlook blocks parts of Danny's abilities.

Once again, because kids often have imaginary friends (as Dr. Edwards also believed), this made the story a bit more plausible and "rational".
