Both were strong women but one was country rural and one was village.

I think this is pretty typical in the role of parents vs. grandparents.

Pip | 1822 comments I agree. Laye loved going to the country to stay with his grandmother in the holidays, much like grandchildren everywhere. His grandmother did not seem to have the same mystical powers as his mother did, although she also used potions which were mysterious to Laye.
