Koren (koren56) | 1601 comments I've been in this group for a while but am just learning the ropes due to Shelfari closing. I have a question. At the top of this discussion it says there are 55 discussions but it only shows 5. How do you find the other 50?

Rita (crimesleuthjunkie) | 1146 comments Koren, I started the process with Shelfari being transferred here and I was hoping that would include my profile picture too. I don't want to lose that one.

I do not think your profile picture transfers.

On the right side of the column it will say 'showing 5 of 36 discussions. Click on that and a complete list will pop up.

message 8: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments You should also be able to get all the threads by clicking "more discussions" at the bottom of the page. You can then return to the particular topic by clicking that topic in the top subject line, or return to the group's home page by clicking on the group name.

message 9: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 1601 comments Another question: How do we add books to the group shelf?

message 10: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Go to the set of options under the group name in the upper right of this page. Click on 'bookshelf'. In the upper left side, there will be a search box where you can look for books to add to the group bookshelf.

Thank Scrod there really is a group shelf! I thought all that work we did at Shelfari would be lost!

message 15: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Well, I'm not sure you can transfer everything to the shelf automatically, but it can be recreated. I'm also not sure about creating sub-headings within the group shelf.

Fishface, I see you are busy trying to add all the Shelfari TC group's books to Goodreads. Are you adding one by one or is there a mass export feature.

message 19: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 1601 comments Got all my wish list books transferred to Goodreads. Now for my other shelves. On Shelfari we had a shelf for 'wish list' and one for 'planning to read'. Here it looks like its all 'want to read'. Is that correct?

message 20: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments You can create your own shelves for wish list, planning to read, or whatever. Want To Read is a default, but you don't have to use it.

I am frantically adding books one at a time. One list at a time, actually, as even the Manson Family list isn't THAT long.

message 22: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18834 comments Channel 4 closed captioning strikes again! I was watching Air Force One set down at Detroit Metro Airport while eating lunch at the diner, and the closed caption said "There on the star MacWaiting for the president to step out of the plane." That's every bit as funny as the day Charles Ramsey rescued the 3 women in Cleveland and they kept calling the kidnapper "Air Yell Castro."

The rules should only pop up the first time you post a comment. I'll check the settings.

I recently went through the discussion threads and 'cleaned' them up a bit.

I locked some really old threads, deleted some that had no comments.

If you see a thread with a topic you would like to discuss and it is locked, just start a new thread.

If you want to contact me: Belleza

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments I was looking at the header picture for this group, and there's a book that is partially covered, the title of which reads "Eight Me Out", which I thought was a take-off on an old-fashioned obscene act until I figured out it is probably "Eight Men Out".

It's pinned to top of the author of the month folder.

Well, when I add a book to the shelf, the little screen pops up that gives me the option to create folders -- I assume the rough equivalent of a Community List on Shelfari. So I have a Michigan Crimes folder, a JTR folder and a Moors Murders folder set up so far. But I can't finger out where the folders are listed so I can just open it and see what's in there so far.

message 43: by K.A. (last edited Jan 29, 2016 12:41PM) (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Hmmm. The only shelves I see under the Bookshelf option are read, to read, currently reading, and all. Not sure where the other folders would be listed.

ETA: I do see that you can add books to discussion folders when you are identifying the book. So, for example, you should be able to add a book to the established Michigan Crimes discussion folder under the group's home page. However, I don't know if that will show up somewhere on that added book's page on the shelf. In order to sort that way, you most likely have to set up specific shelves like the ones listed above, which you can also do, so you can then choose one of the shelves to sort by - if that makes sense.

Short answer is it's not. It creates a folder in the discussions. Then the folder sits there invisibly until someone posts in it. I don't know where the book goes.

Not sure if that explains it and I'm sorry it took me so long to get to this. Any more questions just ask!
