WOW!

Amy Terris, I've been dying to win a book! I have easily entered over 100 reviews in four months and I'm working on 150 in 6. I have entered for Truly Madly Guilty almost 5 times. I am so hopeful that when I get home from vacation, one will be waiting. So curious, what did you win? Nice to hear it truly happens...

Hubby and I are "up north" on vacay .... I brought my tablet along and am sitting in the local library using their WiFi. Isn't technology wonderful?

We'll be back home this weekend. But at least I could get the Sept M-o-M challenge, and the Sept Member of the Month questionaire posted.

Marti (coloreader) Oh, my. Where to begin? The past two weeks have been nuts. My daughter was scheduled for surgery, which was cancelled due to the problem resolving itself! Yay! My younger son ended up in the ER after having a kidney stone. Boo! But he's fine now. He "passed." My DH and I had a great talk about our finances, specifically our retirement funds, and that was such a relief. Yay! Our dear friends' granddaughter was involved in a serious head-on car crash and has had four surgeries in the first 48 hours of recovery. Broke numerous bones, ribs, crushed intestines that required a resection, horrible injuries! She is supposed to get married at the end of October! That may not happen. BOO! I had a four hour lunch with my cousin who lives in Florida and found out some scandalous things about our family's past! She also found a newly identified cousin from South America! Yay! My husband's uncle died last week at the ripe old age of 92. He never wanted to be that old man parked in the hallway of a nursing home, unable to do the things he loved. It was a blessing that he didn't have to suffer that indignity any longer. So, Boo and Yay. I think I need a neck brace to stabilize all these quick ups and downs!

Terris | 742 comments I must be on a winning streak! In the last few months I have received four books in the mail through "give-aways" that I have entered. Two paperbacks, one hardback, and one audio book. I thought I was doing pretty well this those! I mostly donate them to my library after I read & review them, so we're all winners!
Well, recently LibraryThing sent me a notification that I was chosen as an Early Reviewer to read and review Dear Mr. M by Herman Koch and Why the Monkees Matter: Teenagers, Television and American Pop Culture by Rosanne Welch. And today on Read It Forward I got notification that "I'm a winner"! and will receive Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood! I'm feeling really lucky and excited!

Marti (coloreader) OMG! Talk about a pow moment! My granddaughter will be two on Friday! I do not know where the time goes, but being a grandma is the best title I've ever held! Of course, she's a genius. She loves to read, and I swear she recognizes words and letters. She knows A is for Addie, B is for Bah (Grandpa), G is for Goo (me). We are in the "me" phase and she'll just yell at the dogs if they get to something of hers. She loves to be outdoors, especially hiking with her Daddy. Ahhh! I'm in love!

Terris | 742 comments Hey, you guys! I just got another free book in the mail -- a hardback!! Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. It is the untold nonfiction story a group of black female mathematicians hired during WWII to work for the aeronautics industry and stayed on to work for NASA and help America win the Space Race. It is also a new movie that I really want to see, but plan to read the book first!! I don't remember signing up for a give-away for this one, but I guess I must have & am so happy!

You really should! I've probably received 5-6 books this year, and 2 were hardbacks and one was an audiobook!

message 73: by Terris (last edited Nov 12, 2016 06:30PM) (new)

Terris | 742 comments I'd better start playing the lottery! I got another hardback book in the mail today!! News of the World by Paulette Jiles News of the World by Paulette Jiles. It is a National Book Award Finalist, and I've seen it around but don't know much about it yet.
It says it's about, Captain Kidd, a Civil War veteran (I'm pretty sure this is fiction), who is escorting a 10-year-old orphan girl, who had been kidnapped by Kiowa Indians, from Wichita Falls to her relatives in San Antonio. And it sounds like it's a pretty adventurous trip! They compare Captain Kidd to Rooster Cogburn in True Grit and Lonesome Dove's Gus & Call. I'll let you know what I think :)
I think I'm going to have to enter a "book shelf" give-away next!!

I actually won an entire collection of Penguin's new "orange editions" classics. I think there are 8 or 10 of them. I know I've probably already read some of them (in other editions, of course), but I'm sure there will be several that I've never gotten to.

Oh .. and this was NOT through Goodreads Giveaways.

I really enjoy talking about books with likeminded people! So, I hope I'll be able to manage my time better next year:)

Hubby and I are on vacation for the rest of the month. (Tough life, I know). We just got to our rental in Ft Myers FL ... left Milwaukee Thursday afternoon, drove through snow approaching Indianapolis. It's 80 degrees here in Ft Myers.

The house we're renting has WiFi ... and I brought my tablet, so I can get connected. BUT ... I probably won't spend the kind of time on the net that I do when I'm home.

Hope everyone has a great month!

Hubby and I are ending our all-too-brief stay in Florida and headed for Texas tomorrow morning. It's a long drive, and I probably won't check in very regularly again until we're back in Wisconsin near New Year's.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Whether you celebrate Passover or Easter, I hope you had an enjoyable holiday with family and friends.

Hubby and I drove about an hour north to a resort on a lake to enjoy Easter Sunday brunch. We lucked out with the table front & center, near the dessert buffet. In addition to the great food, it was great for people watching!
