Lu (beltari) I started a challenge that includes "A book with a protagonist who has your occupation" and I'm stump! I'm a testing engineer in the bug fixing department (aka a computer geek), I'm also a graphic designer. I tried googling but all I could find were books about engineering and graphic design :( Anyone knows a book that I could use?
Thanks in advance!

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) There are lots of science fiction books like that. Just a bit and I'll get back to you.

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) Sorry it took so long to answer this. A friend in a sci-fi group I belong replied with the following:

"I've been trying to think of the name of a book that I very recently read a review of, one in which a computer programmer discovers "reality" is really a holographic computer simulation and he's figured out how to hack the simulator.

So, the classic cyberpunk story would be Vernor Vinge's "True Names", which created the concept of cyberspace back in 1981. its novella, originally printed as "binary star #5", which you're unlikely to find. However, it's been reprinted several times. Here's the ISFdB link to all its re-printings:

http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cg...

A second prize would be Charles Stross's Halting State. The programmer is one of two points of view in a cyber crime investigation (the other PoV is the cop.) it's written in 2nd person present, which takes some getting used to. I like Stross, except when he's doing a horror (The "Atrocity Archives" stories.)

Thirdly, Chuck Wendig's latest is Zer0es, that which stars a group of computer hackers.

Hope this helps you. Rose
