August 2009 Reading Challenge
hey Moi--Yz said it was OUR definations of the various categories. So if you want it as a UF--go for it
as for me--right now I'm thinking that the Wizard of Oz is about as UF as I can stand going at this minute. When I hurt (and the weather we've been having the last week, I hurt almost constantly) I can not stand to read anything that is even remotely "down" or I sit and sob my heart out. Arthritis meds are serious downers as well as pain killers, so I try to only watch/read light, fluffy no brainer things when its acting up.
As a result, while I have read about 5 books so far this month, only a couple are for this challenge. The latest being Jennifer Crusie's Geting rid of Bradley Its a 4.5 star book because it has--a cute (but rough around the edges) cop, a control freak-over-protective-pain-in-the-rear sister (I know, that's ME when it comes to my family) 4 dogs and a cat from he**. Plus a warm, cuddley love story. I mean, what more can anyone ask for?

How on earth did you manage to read The Host so quickly???? There's no way I could read that as part of a monthly challenge!!!!

I'm just a fast reader. Plus I've read it before so I wasn't intimately reading it or antyhing :P

I keep putting off reading it, as Twilight is one of my favourite books. Edward is awesome!!! I keep thinking that I'll be disappointed in The Host.

Amen with a cherry on top. GREAT read, so much better than Twilight.

I took a peek at your TBR shelf and Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer books will fit the UF category very well. Other options would be Meade's books (Succubus Blues..etc).

I've been absent for a couple months due to the pain of moving (my queue books are STILL in boxes) but I think I can pull together this month's list. I may drop out half-way through the month as I'm due to have my first baby in T-12 days and have no idea what kind of upset he'll bring to my reading schedule.
So, no official list for now (b/c they're all in boxes as I mentioned) - but I'll start by reading Blood Noir by LKH which could count for possibly UF, Erotica, or Suspense. :-)
With a little luck my husband will have the books on shelves for me within a few days and I'll be able to provide a "proper" list. :-)

Just an update. I decided to change my UF choice to Bloodfever by Karen Moning, instead of Working for the Devil by Lilith Saintcrow.

Well, that's 1 more of the list down. I like the DED books. That's Dead End Dating for those who haven't read any. Its an NYC dating service for--Vamps, Were's, Others and the occasional human. And some of the Others are really OTHER. In this book we have a power mad 500+ Year old warlock, an incognito Mayan goddess (won't give away who THAT is) plus Lil's Mom is going nuts because her brother who is married to a human has just announced that he and his wife are trying for a little fangy bundle of joy, Lil's OTHER brother and her BFF have just broken up and someone has kidnapped Esther, one of Lil's clients. So all in all--its going to be another one of THOSE weeks for poor Lil. 5 stars for the humour and the crazy and weird vamps, were's, demons and Other's that inhabit the DED world.

Wasn't over impressed with Soon I Will Be Invincible. Maybe it would have been better as a graphic novel. The superheroes were just not worth the effort, think I preferred the Evil Genius - Doctor Impossible.
BJ Rose--I am able to read so many because I'm a stay-at-home wife and grandmother. I have some health issues (asthma, very bad arthritis to name 2) that keep me either bed or chair bound some days, and reading is my way of "dealing" with the pain and not being able to do a lot.
When I'm not reading tho, I'm either sewing, surfing the web or being entertained (their defination) by my grandsons. They are almost 11 and almost 13. The younger will be 11 on Sept. 27, the elder will be 13 on Oct. 20. And Oz (Lady Ozma who also takes part in these challenges) is in a frenzy because the 15 year old foreign exchange student she's hosting this year is due in SOON (like a week or less) and she's trying to get everything ready for HER. Lol, Oz says that's the only way she can keep from being over-powered by the testosterone in her house, since she lives with 2 boys, a husband and a male (neutered) dog. I'm hoping this one will LIKE girly things (the last 2 were more "jocks" than girly) and that I'll have the fun of making prom dresses, home coming dresses, pretty, frilly girly things. :o)

I didn't like it either, it's what's been keeping me from reading the rest even though everyone raves about them. I never really got emotionally attached to any of the characters. I like her Weather Warden series better.

I think so. The whole concept is so different that it's really a nice change of pace.

TO READ

Finished Swallowing Darkness (Meredith Gentry, #7) last night and I have to say I was ultimately underwhelmed. The beginning was good and exciting, the middle was slow and boring, we had a brief interlude where Merry had sex with some minor characters to give them powers, and then the end was rushed. Typical LKH now if you ask me. I did like how some storylines were finally wrapped up in this book though. That's the only reason I could give it 3 stars.

so not fair! I've been having such a hard time trying to get a hold of fire study! its always sold out lol

Funny thing... she took me to the PNR section and there were shelves and shelves of books, and right smack in the center was an empty shelf. She looked at me and said "That's where JR Ward would go...IF we could keep her in stock."

I just bought all for of the georgina kincaid books on amazon...pay day is bad for me..because i can't stop spending lol

On my SOON to be read shelves I have:
Cherry Adairs T-FLAC (never read her before)
Gina Showalter (never read her before)
The Duchess Series by Eloisa James (again, never read...)
So many books, so little time...
and now I'm looking at Christina Dodd's Storm of Visions but I don't know if I have to read her other series first.
AND I want to read Cheyanne McCray, but don't know how her PNR stacks up to others.
