Char | 17465 comments Here's a spot to nominate your choices for our February group read! Don't worry about nominating a book twice: the more times it's mentioned, the more likely it is that it will make it to the poll.

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments In an absolutely shameless bit of self-servedness :-), I'm going to pick a couple of options from my shelf for the reading challenge so I can try to participate in a group read and make progress at the same time...

Naomi's Room

Maple (maplerie) | 0 comments How about 14
14 by Peter Clines

GR synopsis:
Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate's new apartment.

Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn't perfect, it's livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don't nag at him too much.

At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela's apartment. And Tim's. And Veek's. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends.

Or the end of everything...

message 14: by Ms. Nikki (new)

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments On February 14 we celebrate love and all that it entails. How about we celebrate our love of horror with a splatterpunk (bloody) read?

message 15: by Troy (new)

Troy Thompson | 24 comments There is a proposed Buddy Read starting in February with over 10 participates for House of Leaves House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

Why not have it as an actual Group Read for February?

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments Ms. Nikki wrote: "On February 14 we celebrate love and all that it entails. How about we celebrate our love of horror with a splatterpunk (bloody) read?"

Hitchhiking on the idea of Valentine's Day, here's another suggestion: The Loving Dead. It has a hilarious blurb on the cover from Christopher Moore. I admit I'm curious. :-)

message 17: by Cammy (new)

Cammy | 9 comments Yes, let's do a bloody read for February. All of these books sound good.

message 19: by Jenny (new)

message 20: by Marc-Antoine (last edited Jan 23, 2016 07:58AM) (new)

Marc-Antoine | 2888 comments I'm throwing She Wakes by Jack Ketchum in there, as it seems to be in line with Valentine's Day...

Greece. Ancient land of mystery, legend and myth. It is here that businessman Jordan Chase visits an historic tomb, only to experience a dark vision of the future. And it is here, amidst the beauty of the landscape, that Lelia, a gorgeous but dangerous woman, befriends a group of tourists. to lure them into a nightmare of pain and terror. She lives to seduce and destroy, to feed off her human prey. Lelia is more than myth, more than superstition. Lelia is deadly.

Loved loved loved this book. I read it a few summers back and I'll never forget actually getting chills while reading it, despite the fact that I was sitting in the sun by the pool. Probably one of the all time greats when it comes to horror.

message 38: by Jay (last edited Jan 23, 2016 12:02PM) (new)

Jay (okay_jay) | 219 comments I'm going to go twisted and suggest either Finishing Touches or The Damnation Game. What, there's romance (of a sort)?
Also, either one would be one less on my TBR, so...

David Kummer The Magpies by Mark Edwards or The Claiming by Ike Hamill

message 45: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I would be interested in The Magpies by Mark Edwards and want to put in The Bighead (Author's Preferred Version) by Edward Lee as well. I am not sure if the group has already read that one and I don't know how to check. :/
