Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments After the Crash by Michel Bussi is the top vote getter in our poll for the first 2016 Group Reads.
Are you planning on reading the book?
We've slotted this in as February book, but feel free to read in your own time and pace and come back to comment and give us your opinions.

Amy | 1346 comments I just finished it. I truth it was okay.

message 3: by Ann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments The description sounds intriguing · Release date (US) Hardback was March 2015, paperback was August 2015, so should be easy to find one or a library copy.
From the book
On the night of 22 December 1980, a plane crashes on the Franco-Swiss border and is engulfed in flames. 168 out of 169 passengers are killed instantly. The miraculous sole survivor is a three-month-old baby girl. Two families, one rich, the other poor, step forward to claim her, sparking an investigation that will last for almost two decades. Is she Lyse-Rose or Emilie?

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Amy: if you still have a copy can you give an idea of the chapters? How many, are they numbered and are they fairly equal in size?
Thanks!

message 6: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy | 1346 comments There are 62 chapters. They are pretty even and they aren't to long, because they go back and forth.

Sandi (sandin954) | 1276 comments I have the audio version downloaded but will try to get some sort of print version so I can follow the discussion a bit better. I am pretty bad about picking out the chapter #'s when listening especially if they are short ones.

I know exactly what you mean Sandy. Unless the narrator calls out the chapters and pauses at them, *which I generally hate; they skip right by me. I love when Overdrive titles sometimes have the chapters named and numbered as part of the download, audible not so much, their chapters are sometimes simply breaks and if they are chapter segments, are usually not numbered the same as the book. a prologue can be chapter one.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9486 comments I'm on the fence about reading this one, and am not encouraged by Amy's "it was okay" verdict. If others can post their thumbs up/thumbs down votes here that would be helpful. I hate to bag out on a group read but I'm not reading as much these days on don't want to spend time on a so-so read.

Runnermelissa | 5 comments Good morning!
I was hoping to be able to check this out as an eBook from my local library but no luck. As I am new to this group and do not want to miss out on the Group Read, I purchased from Amazon. Looking forward to reading and discussing.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Melissa: I have an Overdrive audio from the library on hold and I am number 3 on the list but I think there was no ebook available from my library either. I need to check back on that. I am looking forward to it too!

Runnermelissa | 5 comments Overdrive is such a wonderful service! Please let me know how you like the audio book version!

Amy | 1346 comments They changed Overdrive and now there aren't as many free books as there used to be, that are available.

This is how i am feeling too.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Amy: I am fairly confident that the selection and quantity of books on Overdrive available to borrow are set by your library system. Each library would determine their budget and possibly cut back on the formats or the variety available. Perhaps you can check with your library system and push for more options. Our availability of titles has varied sometimes in the past. Good luck for improvement

Blueberry (blueberry1) I have an account using my sister's library card from another state as well as my own. So I have access to 2 different libraries books on Overdrive. We both use hers but its not a problem at all. Both of our books are on the bookshelf and we download whichever is for us.

message 19: by Ann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Hi Blueberry! Good to see you, do you find the Overdrive selection varies between the two library systems?

Amy | 1346 comments I stopped by the library and was told that it is overdrive that puts out the available books.

Yes, I really do. I was surprised at this. And I sort of thought that my library system would have the biggest selection because I'm between two major cities in CA but I was wrong. My sister's library has almost double the ebook selection my does. Audio books I haven't compared.

message 22: by Ann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Amy: I agree with that, but thought libraries could customize how many copies and which they offer from the main Overdrive menu.
I don't know that for sure, but have known instances when other library systems offered formats of books that mine didn't. They may decide how many copies are available to borrow (of at least some books), or whether to offer both audio and ebook formats.

message 23: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy | 1346 comments I was hoping I could get books from another county in Florida, but unfortunately
I can't and they seem to have a lot more books to borrow.

message 24: by Ann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Blueberry: I assume it's the money allocations for digital being lower for one system, or perhaps they have a preference for print in some library systems. If audio books are popular, then that would limit some ebooks to spend the same.
My system loves digital because they save on the transportation costs where they have to move holds around between branches.

I want to read this one... I read another review from someone saying it was riveting. I'm gonna sample it and then decide if I wanna do the group read.

Donnajo | 4354 comments I was sorry I had to return this book unread. There was only one copy of the book and could not be renewed. I was so overbooked at the time.
