T.J. Burns | 2698 comments Please take a look at the chart above. Everyone should have their names listed first (A.) for 5 categories. For the positions B./C./D., no order is necessary -- and we can have more than four people sign up for each category to start with because some of us -- I for one -- have included our names in more categories than we have time to read. I just wanted to list them as possibilities, but I will remove my name as more people sign up. Some people read more than others do, so I don't want to hold anyone back. Sign up for as many categories as you like! Let me know if you would like to have anything changed. Happy Reading!

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments Lu wrote: "Hi team! I'm new to this so I may need some help :S Does anyone know if we can use the same book for different descriptions?"

This is my first challenge of this sort as well, but from the rules, I deduct that each person can only use each book once, but more than one person can read the same book. What I'm unclear on is whether different people can use the same book for different categories -- I assume so. (For example, can I use "Devil and the Bluebird" for "26. something music related on the cover" and another team member use it for "7. a blue book (either a book with a blue cover on goodreads, or with 'blue' in the title)?" I will check.

(For clarification, I listed a couple of books above twice -- just to show that I'm flexible. I can read it for 26 or for 7, depending on what books other team mates want to read. But I can only use the book for one of those).

Yes. I checked: Different readers can use the same book for different categories and different readers can use the same book for the same category. Each reader can only use each book once, and each reader can only contribute one book to each category.

Michaela (readingrowena) | 723 comments Hi guys! I am here and ready! The only part of the challenge I don't understand is do we get to choose any number or do numbers get selected for each team and we use only ours?

message 7: by Luci (new)

Luci Limón (lucilimon) | -3 comments So I read the rules and you are right TJ, two or more members can read the same book (for the same or different categories) but each person can only use it to complete ONE category.

As to what you were asking, Mickey, I think we can choose any number if we want to, so maybe we could say which ones we are interested in so that we can reach an agreement and try to fill every category or rearrange if need be.

I'll put a list of the books that I've selected (for now, I'm open for change if I have to) so that we can discuss the distribution.

Hi Micky! Hi Lu!

There are 37 topics and 8 of us -- so if we all commit to 5 topics to start with, we can cover all categories at least once. After that, we can have up to 4 people cover each category.

I posted a large selection from my read-to-review list to see if anyone is interested in buddy reading. We get extra points if we buddy read. So take a look at my selection and see if you are interested.

Since we need to take 5 categories each, it would be great if everyone put an asterisk by your 5-10 1st choices. I'm flexible, so I can take any of the books I listed.

Happy Reading!

Great! You have at least 2 books that are high on my to-be-read list: Obsidian and Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
We could buddy Obsidian if you want: One of us could use it for 1. and one of us for 32.
We could also buddy read Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor
You could use it for 7. and I could use it for 30., 11., or 5.
(Prag is my second favorite city after Istanbul -- I could honeymoon there...)

Yeah! Absolutely :) Could we push Obsidian to the end of Febuary because I'm planning on binge reading the entire five books. I actually have a bind up of the first two and the book is blue so I could use that for mine~ but either way whichever is good for you!

Question!
I think we (we meaning the team not the same person) can use the same book to the same description up to four times right?

Sure. Pick a date for Obsidian and I'm there. I only have the first book right now.

Yes. I just thought we could tick off several items while buddy reading one book, but we can read the same one for the same description. We can only use a description 4 times though. If we're reading a book toward the end of the month, though, we can see what's left.

We can also move books around after we've read them -- Sarah just wrote that on the rules page, so that will give us more flexibility.

I don't have the best understandings of the rules lol so I'll probably just follow everyone else's lead.

I'm excited to get this started!

Luci Limón (lucilimon) | -3 comments Hello again!

So I've seen that you have some books in common and I'm also interested in reading some of them, so maybe we can arrange something to tick off many topics by buddy reading?

The ones I'm interested in are:
Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel (I could do either 13, 18 or 36)
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor (for 5, 7 or 8)
Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Demon Princess (Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales Book One) by Kassandra Lynn

Besides that, I would like to stick with numbers 1, 4, 22, 25 and 29 to read the following ones:
A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green Invisible I (The Amanda Project, #1) by Amanda Valentino Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard (either for 25 or 3, but I think Victoria said she wanted 3) Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer

An I'd also like to read Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson but it fits in so many categories (2, 11, 16, 18, 30) that I think I'll let you choose first and then if there is a free one I could use it with this book.

Thanks, Mickey!

Can I just pluck some of your choices off your list and stick them into vacant spots in my chart? Or do you want to list your top choices? Take a look at the chart I made below and see if it works for you. I didn't put all your books in. Please let me know which ones to add and which category they might fit in.

I'd like to read Scorch Trials The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2) by James Dashner , but I'm not sure where it would fit into this challenge -- maybe (4.) from a male point of view? The German version has a man on the cover page (17.): Die Auserwählten - In der Brandwüste (Maze Runner, #2) by James Dashner

You're very welcome, Lu! I replaced the book you asked (I added the first one to number 23 in case you feel inspired to read both... ;)

Thank you!

I have a question, can we use the same book in the same topic changing the reader? (Example: two of us reading Evermore for 34)

You're welcome, Lu. And, yes, we can have 2 or more readers reading the same book for the same category. (So that gives us more flexibility to do our buddy reads). We can also move books around after we've read them, so that gives us even more flexibility.

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments I wanted to clarify that only the first name in each category (A.) is a commitment. If everyone commits to 4-5 books, we will be able to complete the challenge. All the rest of the positions are extras (B./C./D.). Feel free to put your name down as often as you like, with as many books (it doesn't mean you have to read them all). This way your teammates can see what you might want to read and we can get some buddy reads going -- which earn double points, and are a lot more fun than reading alone. :D

Sorry, Mickey, I didn't notice this message. I was probably answering your first message and looking at your books when you posted this. I gave you some of your requested ones and some others are still free. You can take a look at the chart yourself and tell me which of your books you'd like in which category. I did pick out 5 of your books for the position (A.)
2,7,10, 15, & 23. The first position in 17 and 18 is still free if you want to switch. Just tell me which books to put in there (and which ones to take out).

Victoria | 859 comments That seems like a great idea! I'm generally a fast reader but I wasn't too sure about what February holds in store for me so I didn't want to commit to 12 (15?) books for the for serious. I haven't really placed on a for fun team before but it should be fun! I love challenges.

@TJ: Yeah! I'll totally do a Princess Diaries 2 (I can't remember the title?) BR with you. Also, thanks for setting up that post - it's so organized! I feel like that should be our master post or something because I'm going to constantly forget what's what haha
@Lu: There's a Lunar Chronicles Series Read-a-long that I'm planning on using as a BR if you wanna join that :)

Super, Victoria! A fast reader... I'm not. (That's why I chose a couple of short books ;) ). So, nice to have you on the team!

There doesn't seem to be a Princess Diaries Series Read Along. Maybe we should set one up...
Oh, wait, I found one -- It wasn't in the Series Read Section:
BUDDY READ: Contemporary/Romance > The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot - Restarting 'The Princess Diaries' from November 3rd 2015

We could restart it.

Michaela (readingrowena) | 723 comments Thank you so very much TJ for organising everything!
Firstly I am so very sorry but I have mistaken Scorch Trials for The Kill Order (Maze Runner, #0.5) by James Dashner !

About the books I choose:
I will stay on number 23 with To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1) by Jenny Han .
Then I'd like to get numbers 21 and 13 with Cherry Crush (The Chocolate Box Girls, #1) by Cathy Cassidy and Marshmallow Skye (The Chocolate Box Girls, #2) by Cathy Cassidy .
Then I can get 17, 10 or either 28 with Beautiful Secret (Beautiful Bastard, #4) by Christina Lauren whatever remains free in the end.

Lastly, I'd really like to get 7 for Slide (Slide, #1) by Jill Hathaway and 18 for Impostor (Slide, #2) by Jill Hathaway but if someone doesn't have any other options I guess we'll figure something out.

I think that'll be my maximum books so if everyone is okay with these you can put me in these positions and remove me from all others so out team-mates don't get confused! Thanks again for dealing with all of this! This challenge is going to be so much fun!

Michaela (readingrowena) | 723 comments Another thing! I will have A TON of school work starting the second week of February so don't worry if I don't post anything or I read really slowly I will most probably pick up pace on the third week. The first one of the month is a break for me so I'll do as much reading as I can these 7 days despite the fact I have like 20 pages with information to learn, haha!

@Mickey: Don't worry! School's important. I just graduated from university so I'm taking a hot second before plunging into adult life - that's why I'll probably be burning through books.

@TJ: We should restart it! What could we use it for? I mean, within the categories. - I didn't know there was a remembrance BR! I loved that series as a kid and almost died knowing a new one was coming out! Extra points for BR yesss~ Thanks for letting me know :)

Hi again Mickey!
I've taken you off the A-Spot for 2 and 15 and given you the A-spot for 7, 10, 13, 18 & 23. (And I think I've removed you from the extra spots -- take a look).

Victoria asked for the A-spot for 21, but you can still read Cherry Crush for 21. Up to 4 people can read in each category, and it doesn't matter which order you read in, so you can still read Cherry Crush first if you like. And if need be, we can bump you up to the A-spot for 21 -- Victoria has lots of other options.

Ideally, you will only need to take the A-spot for 5 books -- providing the rest of our members show up. I sent a message to the others (I got the wrong Jade, though), so we'll see.

Of course you can read as many books as you like -- we get the points! If you buddy read, you get 2 points, if you read a book with more than 450 pages, you get 2 points, and if you buddy read a book with more than 450 pages, you get 4 points.

That's great! It doesn't matter who gets the A spot for 21, we just read what we can and if there are any categories left we will just find something to fill them with :)

Lu, should I set up a buddy read for Demon Princess (Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales Book One) by Kassandra Lynn for early in the month? It's short (and hopefully sweet) and fits in several categories for our challenge: 2, 5, 6, 7, 18.

Lu & Victoria,
Should I set up buddy reads for Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (later in the month for Victoria)
and Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor -- say 2nd week Feb?

Definitely! I still need to find it because it's the only one that I don't have yet, but given it's a short read as you said, we can get rid of it asap and check many topics at once :) Maybe someone else would like to join us?

As for the second and third ones I'm available to read them anytime you want ^^

Can't wait to get started!!
