One of my favorite King stories. I'm sooo tempted to read along with you guys! I will if I finish up a couple of things I owe.

I just finished Misery so i'll be starting this today.

I'm on page 130. i thought i had read what this book was about but as i read, i had no clue what was going on. in this sense, it made me think of Shirley Jackson's the lottery-a lot. i still don't know why the boys are walking.

Welcome everyone. Today is day that we're formally jumping into The Long Walk. Some of you have gotten a head start already and that's perfectly fine. I'm excited to get into this and it's a re-read for me! As always, spoiler tags are much appreciated and if we could also identify up to what chapter you're talking about, that would also help. Thanks to all that will be joining us and please don't be shy - we all want to hear your, thoughts, impressions, feelings, etc., along the way.

How many chapters do you want to read per day?

The Importance of Being Richard Bachman - (view spoiler)[ I found it interesting that King felt that he needed an alias to write "darker" works of fiction. It almost seems funny to hear that coming from the Master of the Macabre. (hide spoiler)]

I'm gonna try to do 2-3 Chapters a night since they seem some what long so & because I'm reading a few books but so far I like it Chapter 1 seems like it's pretty suspenseful so far you can kinda feel all there nerves. I wonder if they get into how this game actually started tho

Chapter One: So far more questions than answers. (view spoiler)[ Why are they walking? What happens when they "punch their ticket"? (Even though I have my own ideas on that one) Is there an end or do they simply keep walking until every last person drops? Is there actually a "winner"? (hide spoiler)]

Definately an interesting way to start, just jumping into the walk without really telling us anything. Ch 2 (view spoiler)[ I wasnt exactly expecting what happened to Curley when the soldiers punched his ticket, and quite the image that was created as it was described, too. (hide spoiler)]

It's been a while since I've read this, I remember really enjoying it. I'll have to catch you all up! Just reading another novella at the moment.

This is my third reading of The Long Walk, over a 30 year span. It gets better with every reading.

This is my first time & I really really like it so far Chapter 3 & 4 (view spoiler)[ I know they were talking about the prize being won being money & something else does it say exactly what it is & how much? Maybe farther on? & it's pretty amazing that they only lost 10 people so far (hide spoiler)]

I'm just about to start Chapter 10 now. I'm enjoying it but I still have lots of questions about this walk so I'm hoping I get some answers soon. : )

Just finished ch4(view spoiler)[ Yeah I wonder what the other Prize could be? What did he want to start? Not a very big clue. I really enjoyed the scene of what happens at the end. You figure the last two walkers might have formed a bond and that to see the other shot could be devastating. I bet they're thinking that maybe all the money in the world is not enough after all. Just finished Chapter 6 (view spoiler)[ It still amazes me that these kids walked about 80 miles & only about 30 of them died. The story o this book is pretty creative & just grabs you. I just thinking how they must feel physically & mentally. I wonder also how much money they win if people spend a billion dollars in side bets I think that's what he said it should be a lot it's pretty much how much your life is worth. & I hope McVries is wrong about nobody winning & they shoot the last person, but then again I wouldn't put it past the government. Love the game show quotes at the beginning of the chapters. Setting The Long Walk up as the natural progression from the earlier game shows?? (hide spoiler)]

I agree, Mary, I think that is a great connection.

i finished this today. how in the world does someone make a book about guys walking so interesting? lol! while I didn't like it as much as some other King books, I liked it more than I thought I would. by the end (view spoiler)[ it is so heart breaking saying goodbye to these poor, tortured boys that has became our friends. I like that we learn about the how's and why's of the walk through the conversations and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book. This isn't really a spoiler just my overall feelings but I'll put it in just to be on the safe side... (view spoiler)[ I loved the characters and the premise but I do not care for ambiguous stories and endings. There were just too many questions surrounding the entire walk that were left unanswered, I thought. (hide spoiler)]
