Do you have any authors that you will always read when a new books comes out by them no matter what (i.e. not so great reviews, no friend reviews, or purchase as pre-release with no reviews yet)?? My example would be Melina Marchetta, whom I love and would read anything she writes even if some of my GR were not fans of it. Who are your top 5 "go to" authors??

I'm more of a genre reader than an author reader. But here are my top 5 authors that I usually 'google' when looking for new things to read.

1. J.K Rowling
2. Rick Riordan
3. Dan Brown
4. Kelley Armstrong
5. Suzanne Collins

Rick Riordan is certainly popular. I feel like I need to give him another try.

Alister Clarke (alicat276) 1. Patrick Ness
2. Shaun Tan - not strictly young adult but his books are suitable for all ages, and I've especially loved them as a teenager so I think he warrants a mention.
3. Markus Zusak
4. J.K. Rowling - or any pseudonyms she may use.
5. John Flanagan

1. Melina Marchetta - a Goddess among writers IMO

2. J.K. Rowling- she has never let me down and she knows how to weave a story so well

3. Markus Zusak - I have read everything he has written and am so hoping for a new book from him soon!

4. Patrick Ness - one of my top 5 ever authors - I will read anything by him even if some GR friends are not fans.

5. Kristan Higgins tie with Sarah Addison Allen - both women's books make me happy and I have read nearly everything they have ever written and will always bump other books in my TBR list for their new releases :)

message 12: by Marcia (new)

Marcia (marciavdz) 1. Gemma Malley - I absolutely love all her books! Both The Killables and The Declaration trilogy are amazing and very original.

2. Michael Grant - The Gone books are awesome!

3. J.K. Rowling - She's amazing <3

4. James Dashner - Even though I don't like The Mortality Doctrine that much, I will continue buying al of his books.

5. Lauren Oliver - I didn't like Before I fall that much, but Oliver's writing style is amazing. And the Delirium series is one of my all time favourite Young Adult trilogies :)

Ooh yes, Markus Zusak! I tend to forget about him because he hasn't published many books. :D But I will certainly read whatever he writes next!

Also, I've been wanting to try a Patrick Ness novel. Any suggestions on which one I should start with?

message 15: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I really liked A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness , it's a standalone, but I've also heard good things about The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness

message 16: by Dichotomy Girl (last edited Feb 05, 2016 11:31AM) (new)

Dichotomy Girl (dichotomygirl) 1. Jacqueline Carey
2. Rainbow Rowell
3. Brenna Yovanoff
4. Neil Gaiman
5. Ann Leckie (this one is kinda cheating because she's only written the one series and hasn't had time to disappoint me yet, lol)

message 17: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Thanks, Ashley. A stand alone sounds really good right now.

Depends on your mood for Patrick. If you want a dystopian type book go with TKONLG but if you want a stand alone book go to Monster Calls but bring your tissues!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Great picks! I love J.K. Rowling, Melina Marchetta and Patrick Ness and they would be in my top 5 but I am going to list authors that haven't been mentioned and add in a couple non-YA.

2. Amanda Hocking

3. Rachel Hawkins

4. Karen Marie Moning (non-YA and author of my favorite series of ALL time)

5. Kristen Proby (non-YA)
