C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments One of my reading goals this year is to read one book from The Wheel of Time series each month. So I'll track my progress here and let you guys see how I do. :)

The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan Complete!
The Great Hunt (Wheel of Time, #2) by Robert Jordan Complete! 2/12/16
The Dragon Reborn (Wheel of Time, #3) by Robert Jordan Complete! 3/18/16
The Shadow Rising (Wheel of Time, #4) by Robert Jordan Complete! 4/3/16
The Fires of Heaven (Wheel of Time, #5) by Robert Jordan Complete! 6/8/16
Lord of Chaos (Wheel of Time, #6) by Robert Jordan Complete! 6/28/16
A Crown of Swords (Wheel of Time, #7) by Robert Jordan Complete! 7/21/16
The Path of Daggers (Wheel of Time, #8) by Robert Jordan Complete! 8/24/16
Winter's Heart (Wheel of Time, #9) by Robert Jordan Complete! 9/18/16
Crossroads of Twilight (Wheel of Time, #10) by Robert Jordan Complete! 10/19/16
Knife of Dreams (Wheel of Time, #11) by Robert Jordan Complete! 11/28/16
The Gathering Storm (Wheel of Time, #12) by Robert Jordan Complete! 12/26/16

The Rest of the series (may or may not get to them in 2016):
Towers of Midnight (Wheel of Time, #13) by Robert Jordan
A Memory of Light (Wheel of Time, #14) by Robert Jordan
New Spring (Wheel of Time, #0) by Robert Jordan

If I have time to get to the rest of the series this year I might try and work them in.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments My main goal is to read 110 books.

message 4: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments That's a good goal! I want to read 50 (at least). I don't plan to read as much as I did last year.

message 6: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Nice goal! How many did you end up reading last year?

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Courtney wrote: "Nice goal! How many did you end up reading last year?"

132 although Goodreads shows only 131 because I accidentally deleted a review of a book I'd read. :(

message 8: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I hate when I do that! Plus I wish you could keep all the dates you read a book. So rereads would show...I don't think you can.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Courtney wrote: "I hate when I do that! Plus I wish you could keep all the dates you read a book. So rereads would show...I don't think you can."

They have an option in settings for a 'read count' so that would at least show you how many times you've read the book. After that you would probably have to manually look to see when you last read it. >.>

message 10: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yeah, I think I've used the read count before. I usually just add the reread date to my review. That way I'll know.

Smart idea! I re-read a lot but I usually know when I've last read it. ^-^

message 12: by Maya (new)

Maya White | 734 comments So I have a few goals this year:

1) Read at least 30 books.
2) Start and finish 5 series.
3) Read 5 new authors for me.
4) Finish all my unfinished books (the ones I still have interest in finishing that is).

I'm sure I'll have more in the future, but that's it for now.

message 13: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Those are some great goals, Maya!

I'm already halfway through one of them :)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Glad to hear it! It's nice to stay ahead for those times when things have to slow down. Then you don't have to feel like you have to catch back up.

Exactly! I switch between easier and harder teams in another group so that I can catch up and relax between. I find I can't read any manga when I'm participating in the hard challenges so I have to catch up and read more during the easy challenges since that's what's bolstering my reading goal. :/

Maybe we should host just a manga/graphic novel/poetry challenge in this group.

I would definitely participate in that! I read a lot of manga when I have the time to. ^-^

Maybe it could be one of the non-competitive challenges? Since we don't know how many people would participate?

message 28: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments It's hard to be a student and read. I couldn't do it when I was in school. I was lucky if I read four books a semester. Not including those I took for my literature courses.

message 29: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments That's exactly how I feel. It's hard to accept though because I see other bloggers who are students and manage to read a ton of books in a month, let alone a semester.

message 30: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I don't have any idea how they do it. Maybe it's my time management skills, not sure.

message 31: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I don't either. Oh well, I'll do what I can.

message 32: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I feel that it's more important to read when/what you can than to focus too much on numbers anyway. I've become much more relaxed in my reading this year. Last year was just out of hand.

message 33: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments I read a lot in High School (a book or two a day) but I did that at the expense of my school work. :/

High School was not fun. I didn't go to College/University since I din't graduate from High School. :(

message 34: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I was home schooled, so we did things a bit differently anyway. I did go to college and barely read while I was in school. I would read over summer/Christmas break.

message 35: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments It's good to know I'm not alone. I guess I just feel that way cause a lot of bloggers read insane amounts and still have time to keep up with two/three posts a week. I did the same thing in high school, but I can't let my college work suffer.

message 36: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Trust me, I know what you mean. It's hard to see how much everyone else is reading and wonder what you're doing differently. Some people are just crazy fast readers too.

I used to consider myself a fast reader. But after joining Goodreads I've realized I'm ore of an average reader. O.o I still read a lot. I just don't read fast. :/

I know. Some people read crazy fast. I like to take things slow though. Last year I started speed reading a lot, but I wasn't enjoying what I was reading nearly as much.

message 39: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Honestly, that's why I had to stop blogging for a while. I just wasn't enjoying anything I read and blogging itself was feeling more like a chore than a hobby/passion.

message 40: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I hate when blogging feels like that. I hate when anything feels like that. I just want to enjoy what I'm doing. So I'm working on that. :)

message 41: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Exactly. I want to do the same thing.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments I'm almost halfway done my challenge for the year!!! :D

I'm considering changing my goal to 300. :/

message 46: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Good job.:) If you think you can do it, go for it, but since you're halfway to your original goal, I think you can.

I'm going to wait till June to fully decide. If I'm still quite ahead I will probably change it. :D

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments How are you doing on your Wheel of Time series Courtney? :)

message 49: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Only about 100 pages left of book five! Then I'll start book 6 (which is super long). I've had a lot of headaches in the past month, so haven't read as much.

A 1/3 or so of a book behind is really good! :D Especially if you've had headaches. Those are the worse! :(

I finally decided to increase my reading goal challenge to 300 and I'm doing quite good so far. Only a few books behind. :)
