I've never read any Steinem, but have always wanted to. Will reading any of her other books first help inform my reading of My Life on the Road?
Did you read her other books before starting this one? Or was this your first time meeting Gloria?
EDIT: Let me clarify. I know who Gloria Steinem is and about the work she's done. I'm more interested in seeing how her ideas may have changed since she first wrote Our Bodies, Ourselves, which I believe was her first book. After all, My Life is her first book in 20 years. I'm interested in the evolution of feminism.
Hi Adriene! To be completely honest, I really hadn't really heard of Gloria Steinem until Emma Watson announced January's book. I haven't read any of Steinem's other books and I've found reading 'My Life on the Road' fine. For me, I found a few chapters slower to get through (one in particular was the politics chapter) but the ones that focused on people and their stories I have really enjoyed. There's also some good interviews out there (check out podcasts and YouTube) that are with Gloria Steinem talking about her work and the book.
Hi Adriene. I read Revolution from Within (one of Ms Steinem's earlier books) when I was in first year university (in the early 90s) and I highly recommend it. Happy reading!
