The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2016

Team Peanuts
Hi, I'm Lori from team Hello Kitty.
♥ Beatrix Potter and Roald Dahl were the books for my childhood. I'm bedridden so I love that books are an escape that take me to different worlds and lives.
I read Sourcery. I definitely escape into a different world with Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.

I read the translation of Shards of Honour by Lois McMaster Bujold
Read date: 3/27/2016
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: reserve if needed (wild draw 4); Dr Who memory; 2 words.
Here is the memory link -> Doctor Who.
PS! I really loved the book - great and unusual romance story behind the war between colonies of different planets (total science fiction) with lots of twists and surprises. I especially enjoyed the authors fantasy-creatures in the first part of the book (5 stars to the vampire-bubbles with their snake tentacles - horrible, brrrr....). Also really unique ending (the "consequences" chapter). I will definitely read other books in series!

Look at those words for this challenge - we all have to read cooking books... LOL
Well, for my big surprise I felt delighted twice (remember it was a science fiction book set in space... war ...metal warships...).

in the edition I read (estonian, so translated back to english):
onion - p 194: He grinned. "Onions don't have seeds, Cordelia."
grape - p 223: Ha! Picking grapes, sailing your boat—your father told me about your sailboat.

And that completes the last memory, so the march mini challenge is completely finished. Well done everyone!! :-)

Chlorophyll • ...scent of water and Esty, of compost and chlorophyll • loc. 5303
Raspberry • ...inhales raspberry cream cheese danish • loc. 6316

Dill • ...with this fantastic dill mayo • loc. 646
Spinach • Mushroom and spinach omelet • loc. 647

Celery • ...scoped up the carrots and celery she'd just sliced • loc. 3171

That's great!

I was so sure that no one will ever find "celery" or "dill" in books (if they weren't cooking books)...
Nicely done, Danielle! :)

That's great!"
Totally! :-D
I'm also currently going through the last book that remains to be read. Divide & Conquer is really good! I enjoy this one more than the previous one.

:P

Yeah, thought that one would be hard to find, so surprised it was in this book.
I just noticed a stupid autocorrect in the sentence for it. I didn't see it before but it's supposed to be earth not Esty. How it could change earth to that, I don't know.

Love this series and you gotta love Ty and Zane!

Yessss, those two are awesome! I only have about 30 pages to go as well and then I'm done with the book. So I'll stay up to finish it and then feel guilty about not finishing my book for Life ;-) Ah well, there's always tomorrow morning for that one! I've got about 3 hours of audio left on it, so I should be able to do that before I'm out of the house.

And that officially completes all our March cards.
Way to go, Peanuts!

Only one word to be found in the book though, unless I missed something, and that was raspberry.

Blueberry • She baked big batches of blueberry popovers • page 139
Spinach • Annie was boiling spinach • page 115
Saffron • ...the colour of saffron • page 93

Lemon • ...going to the Blue Lemon for brunch • page 22

Saffron • ...the twilight skyline of saffron and gray • loc. 1136
Onion • I was to lick up red onions • loc 3995
Turmeric • ...and led me to the turmeric scattered across the forest floor • loc. 5034

The first one I read, Die For Me, was more focused on the suspense. Another one Watch Your Back was more focused on the romance.

Can we bank books for April or do they have to be finished in April?"
No, we cannot bank books. Only books finished in April will count for the April cards. And if they've been started after March 1st of course.

chili (p. 13)
spinach (p. 59)
orange (p.59)
onion (p. 142)
chamomile (p. 229)
Since there are a few options still for this book that haven't been used I'll see what else we can find.

Beatrix Potter and Roald Dahl were the books for my childhood. I'm bedridden so I love that books are an escape that take me to different worlds and lives.

Enjoy the book! I really liked it. Rhysand especially :-))

Blueberry • In that case, I'd like a dozen blueberry mini muffins • page 33
Onion • ...gelatinous brown onion gravy • page 214

Not all that many words left :-)
Words left to be filled:
- Chamomile/Camomile
- Cumin
- Paprika
- Spinach

Honestly though, I am amazed at how quickly we've managed to find most of the words already! 3 days left to go!

Yeah, I am truly surprised.
In the book I´m currently reading I have found only "onion" so far (half of the book done), but I have high hopes, since its a travel book (to Ireland), and there just has to be something more about the local cuisine... fingers crossed.
PS! Captain - don´t forget the bonus points for Mini-March (completing all team memories connections) ;)

Nice catch!

I'm re-reading! I love how Sarah J. Mass writes her heroines. Tough and stubborn and just a bit vulnerable :)

I have a book with Cumin in it. No luck with finding paprika in any other books.

Do you happen to have a digital copy of

I have to read this one way or another for a challenge but it would be great it it had one of the remaining words - or something where we can switch out another one hehe.

translation of Insurgent by Veronica Roth.
Could perfectly fit for "Hand One" -> Draw 2:
Reverse (read previously by Eldarwen) and 7 (author first name)
or of course any other card/hand you find more suitable :)

Do you happen to have a digital copy of

No, sorry I haven't.

Could cover "Skip" (characters name Patrick Bateman) OR "Reverse" (previously read by Pepperpots)
(I hope I like it more than Pepperpots did... :) )

No worries, Danielle, but thanks for checking! I haven't gotten all that far in the book yet, but so far all the food/colours/etc mentions have not fitted any of the words we've been looking for.

We'll not only get a hand more than for March, so we'll not only have 14 hands to read (7 cards more), but there is a little something special next month:
We have also added in an extra element for April.
As UNO number cards are coloured Blue, Green, Red and Yellow, we have added seven new cards to each team that have a colour attached. So, for example, rather than receiving card "7", you may see it says " 7 Green". This means you need to find a book that not only matches the criteria for 7, but also has a colour cover of green (the cover should be more than 50% green).
(copied from the Uno Challenge thread)

8 reverse
3 Wild - we'll leave those until the end again
4 Wild Draw 4 - we'll leave those until the end again
9 Green - a book with a green cover and #9 in series or nine/9 in title or N
5 Green - a book with a green cover and #5 in series or five/5 in title or I
3 Blue - a book with a blue cover and #3 in series or three/3 or H
4 Blue - a book with a blue cover and #4 in series or four/4 in title or F
4 Green - a book with a green cover and #4 in series or four/4 in title or F
3 Red - a book with a red cover and #3 in series or three/3 or H
4 Red - a book with a red cover and #4 in series or four/4 in title or F
Draw 2 cards
Hand One - 1
Hand Two - 1
Hand Eight - 2
-----> this hand is a little more particular as it also has the 5 Green as well as a Skip card.
Hand Ten: 1
Hand Eleven: 2

# 3 blue (I have paperback with this blue cover)
Hand Ten -> Draw 2:
Blue 3 (there is supposed to be character with surname Hauptman) AND Skip (author first name P)
... what you think?

They're new this round :-) Interesting twist and definitely makes it a bit more of a challenge!

Sure thing, hopefully they'll select something good! :-)
What kind of book club is it? For more serious book or are the books a little more eclectic, from all across genres?

Hmmm, I hate cover decisions haha.
I think this should be blue enough, yes.
Silje, help! What do you think? ;-)
For the rest of your suggestion, those cards will definitely work. Adam Hauptmann is one of the main characters. (Love the series ^^) If the cover should be judged to have not enough blue, then it will always work for a 6 card - character Samuel Cornick (another main character in this book)
