Char | 17464 comments We're getting an early start taking suggestions for next month's group read. Please post your suggestions below and from them we will put together a poll on which everyone can vote.

Don't worry about nominating books twice, that will help insure a place in the poll. And authors, please remember that self promo or nominating your own books is not acceptable.

message 2: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments I stayed out last poll because my perennial suggestion didn't fit the splatterpunk theme we were supposed to be voting on, but since there appears to be no theme for this month, I'm going again with The Girl with All the Gifts.

message 3: by Robert (new)

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments I'm going to go with Exorcist Road, in keeping with the theme of double-dipping on my reading challenge. :-)

message 4: by Toni (new)

Toni (tvsweeney) I'm feeling apocalyptic. I nominate Blood will Freeze.

message 5: by AmberBug (new)

AmberBug com* | 11 comments My suggestions:

Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist - I loved "Let the Right One In" and I've heard good things about this one.

The Collector by John Fowles - I've been wanting to read this forever and would love to do it with a group. I'm a sucker for books that give you a perspective from the eyes of a wacko/killer.

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes - I loved "Broken Monsters" and have this waiting to be read for awhile now. She is an excellent writer.

I'd suggest Jonathan Janz' Dust Devils Dust Devils by Jonathan Janz , or some old-style, historical ghost fiction, Neil Spring's The Ghost Hunters The Ghost Hunters by Neil Spring , or The Supernaturals: A Ghost Story The Supernaturals A Ghost Story by David Lynn Golemon

You know, I haven't read any Lebbon or Simmons in a while, so I'll also go with The Terror The Terror by Dan Simmons or The Silence The Silence by Tim Lebbon .

message 24: by Char (new)

Char | 17464 comments I like the enthusiasm you guys are showing here! Keep em coming!

message 26: by Mike (new)

Mike (mikebrough) | 24 comments I'll go with The Terror, too. I've tried to start it once already and got about 200 pages in before the unrelenting bleakness made me give up. Perhaps a joint read might be the spur I need.

I'm not selling it very well, am I?

message 27: by Adriane (new)

Adriane | 15 comments WendyB wrote: "The Dead Path by Stephen M. Irwin"

I will second "The Dead Path" by Stephen Irwin

message 28: by xGvJx (new)

xGvJx | 6 comments Thanks for guiding me, Charlene! That's a great list, it makes me think this is definitely a group for me! :)

I would also like to second The Girl With All the Gifts, although I just read it myself. It was a very enjoyable, "light" and quick read that I recommend to those who haven't read it yet. Plus, the film is apparently in post-production, so now is the time!

message 29: by Jean (new)

Jean Ekra | 2 comments Melissa wrote: "The Narrows by Ronald Malfi....beyond excellent! The Narrows"

I second that and it's already on my "To Read" list, so...

message 30: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Horton | 324 comments The Terror looks good, but whew...almost 800 pages.

I want to suggest Watchers by Dean Koontz. We've had a few group reads by King recently, how about one of the other greats?

message 31: by Myst (new)

Myst | 408 comments How about The Funhouse? It's on the list for this year's reading challenge.

message 32: by Alex (new)

Alex | 32 comments Watchers has been on my list for decades

The Djinn is high up on my short list

Nathaniel looks good too

message 33: by Pascal (new)

Pascal Emery | 1 comments I too would like to nominate The Terror as it is one of my favourites and definitely worth reading more than once :)

I would definitely second The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes had I not already read it. I would definitely jump into a discussion about that book. It's really interesting, though I think 'Broken Monsters' is ultimately a better novel.

message 49: by Char (new)

Char | 17464 comments I'm going to wrap this up tomorrow morning, so get your last minute nominations in!

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments Hunter wrote: "How about a book where the movie gets all the credit, Psycho? Or Richard Laymon's One Rainy Night.

One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon"
is SUCH a good book. I was never a fan of Laymon when he went overboard with the length -- Island was way too much, for example -- but 'One Rainy Night' is excellent.
