Alternate History discussion

Hello all. I am trying to find the name of a book I read several years ago about some mercenaries who were sent back in time to just before the Battle of the Alamo. They were sent back by a rich guy who had discovered a huge field of oil just across the Texas border in Mexico and wanted to alter the history of that battle so that the Texans would win and ultimately he could get all of the oil. I don't remember everything about the book but I know they were stranded in time, left the Alamo before Santa Anna attacked and there was a second book that was about those mercenaries being involved in the Civil War. I'm afraid I have no idea what the book's called but I love the premise. If anyone does know what it's called I'd like to read it.
