Gina Andrews | 58 comments Sherlock Holmes was London's one man CSI team in his day. His keen observations along with his studies ofchemistry and mundane things such as the different soils of the area help him discover things about people; how else would he know that Watson, who had moved out after getting married, had gone back to practicing medicine and had a sloppy maid? Not every case involved a real crime, but all cases had everyone but Holmes stumped. I give it 4 1/2 stars

Review I've had this on my TBR for a long time. I thought I had the one that is part of 1001 but I checked further and not all are the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This consisted of 12 short stories narrated by the good doctor Watson POV. Entertaining, not complicated, easily to engage stories. I had read only one previously The Blue Carbuncle which was a free one at Christmas time a few years back. These stories are full of social justice issues.

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 555 comments I read a whole 2 volume set of Sherlock Holmes stories, that included all the ones in the collection for the 1001 list. I've also already rewatched all the episodes of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series, so I was familiar with many of the stories before I read them. I enjoyed the whole collection, though the ones I liked best are stories with Mycroft in them. I loved the relationship between Sherlock and Mycroft. And if I ever had kids, this is a series of stories I'd definitely have in the family bookshelf, since even though the stories involve adult subject matter, the storytelling is always family-friendly enough for younger readers. These are the sorts of detective stories that inspired series like Nancy Drew, Hercule Poirot, and just about all the rest of the crime fiction genre, and they are still fun. I gave them 5 stars on Goodreads.
