message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm looking forward to see that as well, since I have no idea yet of what books to read ;)

message 5: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have found that whilst reading a book that i didn't have earmarked for the challenge, that it actually has elements to it which fit a task in the challenge so i've slotted it in. I've planned some of my tasks whilst others i'll slot in in this way.

message 6: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments I'm doing the same as Sarah. I'm glad you are joining us Sofia. I've added you to the Quick Access thread which is a sticky thread at the top of this folder.

I'm done with my first two books, Odel for the second task in Konso Cultural Landscape (Ethiopia) and Summer Breeze for the second task in Qhapaq Ñan, Andean Road System (Ecuador).

Odel is a story about a woman growing up as a heiress to the old family farm in Norway and then her and her husbands life during the 20th century. Although the book spanned between 1930s to 2000s, it was only around 300 pages and the author skipped a bunch of years every here and there. An okay read but it didn't manage to completely hook me, which might have to do the fact that I didn't entirely enjoy the characters.

Summer Breeze is a historical/western romance (I love romances, so there is probably going to be a lot of them) about a woman who hasn't left the house (agoraphobic) since her family was brutally murdered in front of her a couple of years back. And then when her caretaker/ranch hand is shot in the back in the same spot that the murder took place the "hero" has to protect her and make sure that the murderer doesn't try to finish what he started years ago. Anyway, he had this awesome working shepherd (I love dogs as well, not only romances, and shepherds are awesome even though I'll never have enough time for one) that in the end saved the day.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm done with two more books, The Sword of Summer for the second task (a book with giants in it) in Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast (UK) and Forever Innocent for the second task (death as a significant theme) in Kuk Early Agricultural Site (Papua New Guinea).

Even though both Lightning Thief and Red Pyramid have been on my to-read list forever, I've never actually read any book by Rick Riordan before. I've seen the movie for Lightning Thief, and I imagine that the Sword of Summer is the norse mythology equivalent to Lightning Thief. Anyway, it's a really good/amazing (is there a good word in English for something in between really good and amazing?) YA fantasy adventure with some humor in it. It was also fun to read a story about our old gods and myths set in contemporary times ;)

Forever Innocent is a new adult contemporary romance (big surprise there, or not...). The story is about a young couple who had a baby when they were real young (18?), but the baby died after only seven days, leading to that the "hero" left and they didn't meet again until four years later. Apart from the romance part, the novel was a lot about the early birth, finding out that the baby was sick, learning that there was nothing to do, pulling out the tubes and watching the baby die in there arms, the subsequent guilt and sorrow, coping with the loss etc.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Me too! I needed a Quebec book anyway...

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I know, I just don't know yet which 4 sites I'll complete ;) At the moment I'm simply reading books and adding them if they fit any description, hoping that they will start to add up on some of the sites. But the current plan is to complete at least France and UK (b), and then maybe Australia (c) and Brazil (b) :)

That's one of the things I love about books, that you can learn new things while enjoying yourself with a good story :)

message 21: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments I see your strategy now. I've been plugging every book I've read (except for the monthly challenge choices) into the tasks wherever they fit. It's turning out that I may unintentionally finish some sites before the ones I'd planned on reading, so your strategy may work out just fine.
