I know what you mean about the end. It got a bit too science-y for my liking. It spoilt the feel of the story.

I have been home for a while and read Scandinavian detective fiction . Now it's time to head out again . I have updated my list .

For South America you could read Ways to Disappear, set in Brazil. I've just started reading it, and so far its great.

That was a great book. And yes, it meets the Antarctica criteria!
