Samantha (samanthajo92) | 18 comments Good morning, Penelope! I was wondering if you're one of those authors that makes a specific playlist to listen to while writing a book. If you do, what are some of your go to songs?

message 13: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (aliciabeesha78) I asked you in your Facebook group if Quinn and Lucas were to get a book after I read Misconduct and saw the age difference in that book. You answered me with a yes and also shared a teaser later on. Were you always going to write their story? Can't wait to read it too. Can't wait to see the boys flip their lids!

Tracy *To the point Reviews* (tracy514) Hi Penelope!
Wondering how your writing process works. Do you come up with a basic idea and just go bang it out? (ha! no pun intended) Or do you skim out the skeleton, then go flesh it out? And in this process, when the idea comes to you, do you already know how the book ends? (ok thats like three questions... )
Thanks and I love love love your books
Tracy from Canada

Katie Hi, I love how in your books you have music lists. Do most of those songs influence your writing of that specific scene, or are they just songs that you love and think your characters would love?

Jennifer here, your Swedish biggest fan :)

I loved the audiobook of Misconduct and am downloading Falling series as we speak:)
Can't wait for Corrupt to be able as audio too.
But have to start reading it tonight, it's been on my mind way too long to resist any longer.

If you had to choose ONE of your books as favorite.
Which one would it be and why?

Thank you/Jennifer

Kelly (the book hussy) (kjf914) Any chance there will be future books with the kids from the Bully series?

message 36: by Michelle (new)

Michelle van Rij (chelles_life_in_books) Hi Penelope!

Let me first start by saying that I absolutely love your books. I read the Fall Away series last year and last month I read Corrupt.

How do you come up with the characters in your books? Where do you get inspiration from for them? Are they based on yourself? People who are close to you? Or pure imagination?

And how did you start writing?

Love,
Michelle

message 37: by Mercedes (new)

Mercedes | 257 comments Hi Penelope! Hope you're doing well and enjoy your week here :)

I was wondering if you have any writing hard limits? (Maybe HEA only, or you steer clear of a certain genre or certain types of scenes etc.?) If so, why? Stemming from this question, is there a certain genre or trope you'd like to write and haven't yet? If so, could you tell us what the genre/trope is?

Thanks!! And I loved Corrupt, can't wait for Kai's book :D

message 38: by Lee (new)

Lee (ltenag) I, for one, love YA/NA books - and yet have long since past that time frame in my own life. What do you think is the appeal of this genre that is able to span generations of readers?

Jabberwocky (thisjabberwockyeatsbooks) | 167 comments Hi, Penelope! *waves*

I've never actually read any of your books before *hangs head in shame* But so many are on my TBR—I promise! :D

Although, since Hero's (or Anti-Hero's; I love 'em both) are my most beloved aspect of a book, I was wondering which characteristics it's important to include in a Hero/Anti-Hero when writing?

message 42: by Penelope (new)

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Danny wrote: "Hi Penelope, I was wondering where does most of your inspiration come from?"

Hey, Danny!

My inspiration can really come from anywhere. Corrupt came from a news story, Bully came from a combination of different books I read, and spending hours on Pinterest and developing my playlists is also a HUGE helper. I just think about dynamics I'd love to see (like four anti-heroes instead of one in Corrupt or the taboo of a teacher and parent in Misconduct and a bully and his victim in Bully). I just try to include things I love and things that turn me on, like abandoned places, carnivals, fast cars, and of course, rain. ;)

Thanks!

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Laurice Joy wrote: "Who is your favorite author?"

Actually, I don't have one. :( Sounds terrible, I know.

Since I started writing romance, my interests have changed, and I am having a very hard time finishing books these days. I don't buy books based on the author anymore, but by the synopsis and what grabs me.

But I have enjoyed a wide range of writers in my life...Chelsea Cain, Jennifer Armentrout, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Johanna Lindsey, Tijan, BB Reid, Abbi Glines...

Thanks for the question!

message 44: by Beth (new)

Beth Hi Penelope! I enjoyed the racing scenes in the Fall Away series so much. They were so vivid, and I felt like I was in that car. Have you ever done any street racing? Are you an adrenaline junkie like your characters?

message 45: by Penelope (new)

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Megan Lynn wrote: "If you went back in time and meet a famous author who would it be?"

Hi, Megan!

Jane Austen. Definitely. I'd love to see what her life was like, and how she handled being a female author in her time and how she handled never really getting the recognition she deserved during her life.

Thank you <3

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Kristal wrote: "What was your easiest scene to write and what was your hardest?

Hi, Kristal!

The easiest scenes for me to write were anything that was going on in the characters' heads. It's necessary from time to time to tell and not show, so when I could just narrate, those times were easiest.

The hardest was probably anything with lots of action: the racing scenes, the fight scenes, the Pithom scene in Corrupt as well as the big confrontation between Rika and the boys at Michael's house. I needed to stay in the moment and make it urgent and fast-paced, so the readers would "feel" everything. Those scenes are very difficult and frustrating.

And as far as the pressures of being an author, I guess it's the fear of the feedback. The fear of having failed at reaching a certain reader or writing something you loved but someone else loathed. By now I've learned my limits, don't look at this and don't look at that, but it's a lot of pressure to meet as many expectations as you can while still preserving your vision.

Thank you for the question!

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Julia wrote: "What was your favorite story to write so far?"

Hi!

I used to say Falling Away. I loved Jax and Juliet's chemistry, and I felt like the story was well-rounded.

Now, it's Corrupt. That book had a story OUTSIDE of the romance, and that was awesome to write. It was engaging and suspenseful, and it took a lot of planning. I felt like I was giving readers more than just a Sunday beach read. Lol ;) Not that there's anything wrong with those, but it felt like a big accomplishment for me, and I felt like I'd grown as a writer.

Penelope Douglas | 314 comments Beatrice wrote: "Hi Ms. Penelope! I just want to say I really enjoyed reading the Fall Away series. :) I want to ask, out of the characters in your books (including Misconduct and Corrupt), who is the one you can r..."

Hey, Beatrice!

I think the character I relate to the most is K.C./Juliet. She was weak--initially--made some poor choices, and grew stronger.

Whereas Tate, Fallon, Easton, and Rika had pretty good heads on their shoulders, for the most part, Juliet was the one that grew the most in her story, I think.

Thanks!
