Marianne | -2 comments Hi everybody ! My name is Marianne and I live in the beautiful province of Québec. I am totally a book nerd ! Love reading and love reading about books. I read in both French and English. I read all types of books except fantasy and science fiction, my brain can’t process that type of imagination LOL ! I am always looking to push myself to read more Canadian authors so this group sounds perfect.

Peter Kingsmill Hi Marianne - welcome to our corner of the world of books! Lot's of interesting stuff here - for mystery, across Canada some new books include Dave Butler's No Place for Wolverines, with a little romance for your mystery try J.C.Paulson's Saskatoon book Broken Through: Adam and Grace Book Two Or you might enjoy my Sunset at 20:47 written in Saskatchewan but set in Ontario's northern lake country.
Enjoy!
And oh yeah... Happy New Year everyone!

Hi Marianne and welcome. What part of Quebec are you in? I live on the south shore of Montreal. I think we are the only Quebec members here. It's a great group.

Louise | 1171 comments Oops, sorry Alan. So often when writers join they post an intro to mention their book then we never hear from them again. Hopefully that won't be the case with Alan. We need more Quebec members :-)

Sara Houle | 2 comments Hi everyone!
A little bit about me: I live in Sainte-Julie, in Québec. I was a translator for 10 years, but now I'm in the process of a career change. I did a few courses in publishing and I'd like to study to become a Library Technician (not sure yet). So, I love books. In the last years, I read a lot of Québécois novels, but now I'd like to read Canadian books in English. I love fiction, and I like to explore different genres. I also read like 2-3 essays a year. Glad to get to know you all! :)

Angelique Davies | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm happy to meet you. A friend recently told me about this group so I joined right away. I have been part of a Toronto in Literature reading group for quite a while, but I'm also interested in learning more about Canadian history through books I read. Right now I'm participating in a public library book reading challenge, so I am happy to share titles I have enjoyed and would love recommendations too. Thanks so much for including me, and I look forward to participating in discussions when I can. :)

message 526: by Awa (new)

Awa Dlodlo | 5 comments Hello Everyone,

One of my 'Goodreads' connections told me about this group. I am in Edmonton and about to self publish my first book. It's a collection of short stories, essays and poetry and meditations all inspired by my real life experience. I have found two bookstores in Edmonton willing to sign a consignment agreement. This will also give me access to space for my book signing events. I am looking for other bookstores that accept self published work in other parts of Canada; including Calgary, Montreal, Toronto etc. I would appreciate any information you have. I shall tell you more about my book in the coming weeks. I'm about to print proof copies.
I was born in Zimbabwe but I now refer to Canada as my home. My stories have both places as backdrops. I decided to write in English even though it's my second language, my first being Ndebele, a dialect of Zulu. In terms of reading, I have just completed "The Lonely Hearts Hotel" by Heather O'Neill. I am in the middle of reading "Home Ice: Reflections of a Reluctant Hockey Mom" by Angie Abdou and "Journey through Genocide" by Raffy Boudjikanian. There never seems to be enough time to read, write, work full time and do all kinds of fun stuff in life, but I'm trying to spread time in a way that I can manage and enjoy each process. I look forward to participating and connecting with this group. Regards, Awa.

Martine (fougeredange) | 16 comments Sara, Louise, je demeure aussi dans la couronne sud de la grande région de Montréal. Je lis en français and in English. I have been reading for as long as I can remember thanks to my dad who introduced me to the magical world of libraries when I was three years old. Currently a library technician at one of the Montreal universities, I am approaching slowly but surely retirement within the next 5 to 7 years. Nice meeting you all here on Goodreads.

Dan McCarthy | 4 comments Hello all. My name is Daniel and I’m from Toronto (cue boos). Seriously, just came across Goodreads recently, what a great forum. A friend recommended my most recent read The Great Divide: a novel. It’s a fantasy thriller set in the Banff Jasper area of the Rockies. It’s got mystical mountain creatures and great villains with an underlying message of warning about development in the back country, and the need to preserve it. Currently reading, The Uninhabitable Planet - scary read. The Great Divide by Conor McCarthy

Shannon (everydayathena) | 10 comments Hi Folks,

My name is Shannon; I've been living and working in Ottawa for the last 11 years. I've joined this group in the hopes of making more time to read - I love books but they are sadly the first thing I set aside when life gets busy! Many of the discussion forums here look like a good match for my tastes and interests. I haven't explored all the forums yet; do some group members follow a book-of-the-month format, or is the approach less regimented?

Looking forward to the great reads ahead. :)

message 548: by Kaz (new)

Kaz Morran | 3 comments Hi everyone. I've been in Sendai, Japan since 2005 but I was born and raised in BC (lived in Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm, Burnaby, Tofino. Also Calgary for some reason, and Australia). I write science fiction and recently published my first novel (but I won't promo it here unless you ask). Though, surprisingly unqualified, I teach English at a major university and to everyone from nuclear physicists to pro wrestlers. I take joy in what's intriguing and adventurous and coach my son's hockey team (yes, they have hockey here). Oh, and I read a lot. Mostly non-fiction, which along with my life events, inspires me to write.
