Hi everyone! My name is Christiane and I live in a small town near North Bay, Ontario. I grew up here but moved away for a while to go to university (Ottawa and Sudbury). I’ve always felt a connection to the beauty of nature in general, but the rugged terrain and lakes that surround us here have an extra special place in my heart. I have many fond memories of swimming in the lakes, hiking in the forests and picking berries. The fall is my favourite season which is why I chose to have my novel take place at that time of year.

Hi there - I’m a fan of Margaret Atwood and Robert Sawyer. And I love Phyllis Gotlieb’s writing and her Galfed universe.

Me being one of them! I'm a huge fan of Margaret Atwood and have read all of her novels at least twice, many of them thrice.

I am also completely enamoured of Cordelia Strube Her novels are quirky and edgy; and subject matter often dark, but presented in such a way as to render me totally absorbed. It doesn't hurt that many of Strube's novels are set in and around the Greater Toronto Area.

Thanks for the welcome! Actually, I’m an immigrant from the UK, though in Canada for many years now. I’ll soon reread Oryx and Crake or start another Phyllis Gotlieb.

I'm Canadian and hadn't heard of Phyllis Gotlieb, but I live in the States now and she isn't someone my parents or siblings read nor have I heard of her scifi before now.

Unlike many people here, I'm not a fan of Atwood, although I have liked a couple of her books. Naturally I had to read her in university (a book of poetry and one of her novels,) plus a good friend of mine who discovered her either while at Princeton or some time later--actually, later because I was living in Ontario by then (born and raised in BC northwest of Vancouver on the mainland but you can't drive there unless you take a ferry) and went to university at SFU) was so excited by her writing he bought me one of her novels and I've read 4 others by her.

Phyllis Gotlieb’s literary science fiction is little known even in Canada, though I believe she’s thought to be one of the founders of Canadian science fiction.

I'm Canadian, and I wanted to introduce myself and say hi.
Let's see ... I'm unafraid to say I'm a Leafs fan, so there's that. :)
I'm the Senior Editor at Montreal Publishing Company and the Editor-in-chief of the literary journal The Nelligan Review.
I've long been influenced by Canadian writers, and first among that group is Sheila Watson and her book, The Double Hook. I've written about it in a few places, but essentially, I am of the thought that reading it will make any writer a better writer.
I've been fortunate to work with a few outstanding Cdn authors: Alistair MacLeod, Charlie Foran, Jack Hodgins, Leon Rooke ... all incredible writers. There is also: Eric McCormack, Guy Vanderhaeghe, Ondaatje, Munro, Richler - and many, many more, of course.
I hope your reading and or writing is going well as we walk into this most beautiful of seasons here in Canada, autumn.

Hello! My name's Tracy and I live in Edmonton (originally from Ontario). I love reading contemporary fiction and classics alike.

My interest in Canadian literature went up significantly after reading "Survival: A Thematic Guide to Canadian Literature" by Margaret Atwood (really great book). I've been working my way through Gabrielle Roy's novels to begin with; but I've also been reading a lot of newer Canadian novels lately as well (Prairie Edge by Conor Kerr and The Innocents by Michael Crummey have been recent favourites).

Welcome Tracy!! I have had Survival on my shelf for too long so need to get at it. we are so lucky to have so many great Canadian authors to choose from!

Hello Tracy. You might want to try out Nick Mount’s book Arrival. It’s about Canadian lit mostly in the sixties and the seventies. He talks a lot about Survival . He’s a wonderful writer,very funny and his anecdotes about writer’s lives is fascinating.

Hello! I’m Sarah, living in Kingston Ontario… I ran into another Sarah today, who happens to be member of this group! We fell to discussing reading and she mentioned how much enjoys this “book club” and suggested I join. (Thanks for having me) In the past few years I’ve really enjoyed reading Indigenous Canadian Lit especially. I hope to come across some great suggestions for all kinds of reads from this group!

Hello everyone!!! Canadian author. I started as the drummer for Stompin Tom Connors on his CBC TV show. I became a Stand up Comedian and have an hour comedy special on CTV'S Comedy Now.

I loved Robert McKee's book, "Story." Gary Zukav's The Dancing Wu Li Masters, as well as, Hale Dwoskin's The Sedona Method and Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. I read a lot and am currently reading David Lynch's entire book catalog, I'm on "Mike Miley's" book: "David Lynch's American Dreamscape. A journey and deep dive interpretation of everything David Lynch has created. Great book.

I became an adult educator, sharing workshops on the power of humor. My class has received a National Teaching Award.

I have come to know the super power, that is our sense of humor. I've come to realize the millions of words that make up the one word "humor," is a great compass in life. The people that laugh with us do so, because they love and like us just the way we are. If we're laughing, smiling, choosing kindness, spontaneity, empathy, friendship, abundance, we are exactly where we're supposed to be.

I'm proud of choosing to become a Stand Up. It's helped me through many struggles and is the reason my wife, Nernie and I wrote a book, for the young at heart, on the power of laughter. So grateful for the opportunity to share this. Thank you for reading this :)
