Maya Tyler | 3 comments I love connecting with other readers... I always see so many similar interests. I'm from Southern Ontario, although I spent 16 years in Newfoundland (I noticed many of you want to visit the island - I recommend mid to late August unless your interest is icebergs or a particular event). I'm married (we celebrate 14 years this year) with 2 sons, aged 6 and 8. I studied commerce in university, but writing is my true passion. I blog and I have two published novels (genre paranormal romance).

Here's my blog, if you're interested in checking it out. http://mayatylerauthor.blogspot.ca

Also, anyone out there have an interest in reading or writing paranormal romance? I'd love to get your perspectives.

Bill Greenwood Hello. Bill Greenwood here. I've recently published two novels on Amazon. I just made my second book-Montrose County- available as a paperback. Bought 5 copies! (Insert Dr. Hook joke here.). I'm looking forward to talking about some favorite books and maybe getting some feedback on my own stuff. I'm currently working on a third book which will complete what has become an accidental trilogy.

Alison Thompson | 11 comments Hello!
You seem to have a few Allisons already, I thought I'd stir up some confusion by adding a one L Alison. This is my first foray into Goodreads groups, this looks like a fun and active group so I'm looking forward being involved.
I love to read can-lit, fantasy, sci-fi, classic lit, murder mysteries, and the occasional non fiction. As a sci-fi fan I was very excited to see Company Town on the Canada Reads list, it was great to see the genre get some love and to find a new author.
I'm currently bookless. I just finished China Miéville's collection of fantastically weird short stories, Three Moments of an Explosion. I am looking for my next book, preferably a Canadian author.
I live in Vancouver, like to run and ride my bike when I'm not reading. I look forward to getting to know fellow group members.

message 307: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Penney | 563 comments Welcome Alison! Greetings from the East Coast (Halifax). I'm not a huge sci-fi reader, but I was excited to see Company Town so well represented because of the strength and complexity of the main character and her journey.

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) | 1782 comments Welcome Alison with one "L"! I watched the premiere of Anne last night so I have "Anne with an 'e'" running through my head. I added my curlicues to differentiate myself, but you have your different spelling!

Melissa Lurquette (melissa_lurquette) | 2 comments Hello, my Canadian friends (and others from around the world)!
I'm Melissa, a new author from Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island. I was born and raised in Chilliwack, settled in Vancouver for many years, lived in Calgary for 10 years, and toured across most of Canada with a sketch comedy theatre company back in the 90s. I still have to visit Newfoundland/Labrador and the territories, then I've spent time in every province. I LOVE our country, and look forward to hearing from others about great Canadian reads.

Richard Summerbell | 2 comments Hello, I'm Richard and I'm the author of a passel of lab science textbooks as well as an early (1985) book of LGBT-related humour and a pseudonymous sci-fi trilogy-in-one (2013). I grew up in Kamloops, B.C. and then went to universities in Vancouver and Toronto. Lived many years in Toronto, moved to Amsterdam for six years, came back to the same Cabbagetown house. I've long been devoted to Canadian literature and learned my concept of a good story from Gregory Clark -- Gregory Clark (journalist), as Wikipedia calls him.

message 319: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Alan McGill | 4 comments Hi. I'm Kevin. I have been reading CanCon for over 40 years now, back to when the term was coined.
I am retired and getting into writing on a serious level using blogging as my base. I have a passion about being Canadian and recently published an ebook "Canadian? Me?" (selfish plug that you are welcome to ignore)
My most recent foray was Thomas King's non-fiction The Inconvenient Indian
Before that was Gus Vanderhaeghe's books.
What I like most about Canadian writers is that they can be quirky without being intentionally so.

message 323: by J.J. (new)

J.J. King | 7 comments Hi, I'm Janice Godin (my pen name is JJ King). I'm a Newfoundland Author or women's romance, and contemporary and paranormal romance. I write most of my books with Canadian characters in Canadian locals and, when I do write in the States, I make it Maine because their culture is a lot like our maritime culture.

As Janice, I've written an award winning Newfoundland women's fiction / contemporary romance called Then She Danced.

As JJ King, I have 2/3 of a paranormal trilogy called The Guardians (Blood of Eden and My Brother's Keeper). It comes with 2 free additional short stories called Eyes have seen and Number the stars. I'm working on book 3 (Sins of the father) now and should have it published by the end of the year.

I also write for Evernight Publishing and have 1 full length novel and 2 novellas with them. Soon to be 3 short stories.

With Canada 150 happening this summer, myself and a few other Newfoundland authors have put together a literary tour across the island. It's gotten really big and we're excited. It's called Canada 150 Literary Tour NL if you're going to be in Newfoundland this summer!

message 325: by A.S Chambers (new)

A.S Chambers | 2 comments I can't remember if I put myself out there in here due to me preparing and starting to research for book number three so here it goes peeps.
Hi all my name is Andy, but I write under pen name A.S Chambers (Im the Canadian one). I created my own Chronicles of The Fallen series which focuses on what defines what we humans go through on a daily basis where I focus on what knocks us down throughout our lives on this wonderful planet we all share, its hard to place into words and best described as the strength it takes when life hands you a bad deal to where life suddenly stops. I find there a ton of people out there who are just "stuck" forgetting both where they have been and where or what direction they are truly traveling.
I am a Canadian fictional author of two books, my first was a test to see if I in fact had it in me to write and if I could I would re-write it even better...maybe in the future. My second I focused on the 1930's in the Chicago era and my main characters ups and downs as a police officer, I wanted to show that there is a personal history to ones own family that runs faintly along side of a worlds history and how family, love, devotion, friendship and integrity are all so very important. I wrote this with a lot of old words long forgotten and I also in editing left a few mistakes to prove that we all aren't perfect even in printed matter such as the great novels on the market now. If you should read it please let me know what you felt of the story line and my characters, like I said earlier I couldn't remember if I introduced myself or my work. Thank you for your time. Oh they have a give away I paid for for here so if it isn't up yet please keep checking and enter if you want. Well back to the grind of searching the past and creating more vivid tales. Thanks again

Elinor | 238 comments Hello, everyone -- I'm an avid reader and book club member who has also written a bestselling wartime novel titled Bird's Eye View although I promise I won't pester you about that!
I feel like a true Western Canadian, having been born and raised on a Saskatchewan farm, lived and worked on both Manitoba and Alberta, and for the past twenty years I have lived in the mountain resort town of Invermere, B.C.
My first novel was set in Saskatchewan; and my second novel Wildwood, to be published in February 2018, takes place in the Peace River, Alberta area.
I'm keen about Canadian history and right now I'm obsessed with Canadian pioneer memoirs, so please feel free to make some recommendations!
I also write a monthly blog called Wartime Wednesdays. You can learn more than you ever wanted to know about me on my website: www.elinorflorence.com.
I look forward to belonging to this group!

Kelly Hooper 'My name is Khelli, and I am NOT a published author.' While perusing the introductions of the newest members, I got to thinking - 'Ooops, am I in the wrong place ? Have I accidentally joined a Writer's Group ?' At the risk of embarrassing myself, I think I'll stick around …… teehee : )) HELLO FELLOW CANADIANS ! I am Khelli, and my greatest accomplishment in life calls me MOM xoxo . After living 22 years of my adult life in northern Ontario, I now call Orillia home. Stephen Leacock's summer estate was here, and Orillia is also the Hometown of Gordon Lightfoot. My Sonshine, my Jack Russell Terror (Terrier : )) & my BOOKS ~ that's ME, down to the skinny. I am a kind-hearted, compassionate individual; with a trigger-happy funny bone, an old soul and an ache in my heart for RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS. Like my Nanny before me, I have devolved into a hermit and dream of growing old on the rugged Atlantic coast, in an abandoned Outport on THE ROCK. Donna Morrissey is my most beloved Author, followed by all-things-Newfoundland. Canadian Literature (mainly Historical-Fiction) & Psychological Thrillers / Crime Fiction are what transport me.

Welcome Khelli! I am a Donna Morrissey fan too and have read all her books! She is coming to the Knowlton Literary Fest near Montreal in a couple of weeks, on the SAME DAY as Lawrence Hill at another nearby fest so I had to choose between the two. Since I have seen Donna Morrissey before and never seen Lawrence Hill, I chose the latter. Really sucks that I had to make a choice at all.

Donna Morrissey is one of the many authors who have pique my curiosity about Newfoundland and I finally lived my dream by visiting this past June. What a wonderful province, and great place to visit!
